San Diego Padres affiliates went 1-4 on Thursday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 5-4 to Round Rock) (17-19 on the season)

Jackson Wolf– 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K (88 pitches- 54 strikes)

Connor Joe– (1-for-4) RBI

Tirso Ornelas- (1-for-4) RBI

Mike Brosseau- (1-for-4) 2B, Run

Round Rock won 5-4 and scored the deciding run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 9th inning. Reliever David Morgan was charged with the loss as he gave up the earned run on a single, a stolen base, and a balk to advance the runner to third with one out—a tough loss for El Paso as Jackson Wolf was solid for six innings of work. The southpaw allowed one run on three hits and struck out five batters. Austin Krob coughed up three earned runs in 0.1 innings of work on Thursday, and his ERA shot up to 6.17 on the season. Francis Pena continues to look dominant. He threw a perfect frame for El Paso.

The Chihuahuas did not have much going on offensively, as they managed only three hits in the game. El Paso walked six times, as three different hitters (Luis Campusano, Clay Dungan, and Bryce Johnson) accomplished the feat. Connor Joe went 1-for-4 in the game and is hitting .267 in El Paso with a .755 OPS. El Paso was 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position during the game.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 12-6 to Frisco) (15-15 on the season)

Brandon Valenzuela– (2-for-3) Run, 2 BB

Moises Gomez– (2-for-5) 2B, 2 RBI, Run

Kai Murphy– (1-for-4) 2B, 2 Runs, 2 RBI, BB

Victor Lizarraga– 2.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K (71 pitches- 46 strikes)

The Missions were in this game, but then they lost control of it, losing 12-6. Victor Lizarraga continues to struggle in 2025. The velocity on his fastball is down at the moment. The right-handed hitter is not a fireballer by any means, but his heater is sitting at 90-91 mph right now. The slider and off-speed selections are fine, but he is not fooling anyone with the heater. His ERA is at 8.46 this season after Thursday’s game. Lizarraga committed two big errors in the game. He left in the third inning. Manuel Castro was knocked around in the 9th and gave up four earned runs.

Brandon Valenzuela continues to show promise with the bat and went 2-for-3 on Thursday. Always considered a defense-first catcher, Valenzuela is swinging a good bat in San Antonio and owns a .817 OPS. Moises Gomez doubled and drove in a pair of runs in the loss. The outfielder is also playing well and owns an .856 OPS this season. Kai Murphy was a sparkplug on Thursday as he scored two runs, drove in two, and doubled out of the leadoff position. Romeo Sanabria was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the loss.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 3-1 to South Bend) (17-13 on the season)

Jose Luis Reyes– 6 IP, 5 H, 3 BB, 2 ER, 4 Ks

Leodalis De Vries- (1-for-4) Run

Rosman Verdugo– (2-for-4) 2B, RBI

Brendan Durfee– (2-for-4)

For the first time since 2017, a South Bend Cubs pitcher worked into the 7th inning as the Cubs won 3-1 over Fort Wayne. Jackson Wiggins was dealing on Thursday as he went seven complete innings and allowed one earned run on three hits for South Bend. The right-handed pitcher struck out seven in the games. Jose Luis Reyes pitched well for Fort Wayne, allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out four in the game. Tyson Neighbors continues to show a strong arm with excellent arm speed. He gave up a solo homer to Rafael Morell in the game in his two innings of work. Connor Schultz threw two scoreless innings for the save.

The TinCaps struggled with the bat on Thursday as the team struck out eight times without drawing a single walk. Brendan Durfee and Rosman Verdugo both recorded two hits in the loss. Verdugo doubled to score Leodalis De Vries in the top of the fourth inning. That was the only real threat for the TinCaps in the game. Durfee, a left-handed hitting catcher, is showing a promising bat. The 23-year-old, 2024 14th-round pick out of the University of Santa Barbara is enjoying his first full season of professional baseball.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 6-4 over San Jose) (13-17 on the season)

Boston Bateman– 5.2 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 K (89 pitches- 59 strikes)

Yendry Rojas– (2-for-4) 2 Runs

Ryan Jackson– (2-for-3) 2 RBI, 2 BB

Kavares Tears– (2-for-5) 3 RBIs

The only affiliate win on the night goes to the Storm as they came back for a 6-4 win. Boston Bateman was cruising through three innings, only allowing one base runner. The lefty was victimized in the fourth inning by some defensive misjudgements and an error by himself on a ball he threw out of play without calling a timeout. Bateman topped out at 97 mph in that inning as he battled through frustrating moments. The 19-year-old bounced back in the following inning by going 1-2-3, ending the frame with a strikeout on a nasty slider. He began the 6th inning and got the first two out, but hung a slider on a 3-2 pitch and was removed after allowing a two-out double off the centerfield wall. The southpaw threw 89 pitches on the night, allowing four earned runs on six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out two men. Adam Conrad earned the win by throwing 3.1 innings, only allowing a single and a walk while striking out five batters. His ERA remains 0.00 on the year in 11.2 innings pitched.

The Storm were led by Kavares Tears, who drove in three runs in the game. He singled up the middle in the 7th inning, driving in two runs and making the game 6-4. As a team, they struck out seven times, walked six, and produced eight hits. Ryan Jackson recorded two hits in three at-bats while walking twice. Yendry Rojas went 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Zach Evans and Lamar King Jr. were 0-for-9 combined with four strikeouts in the win.

ACL Padres (Lost 12-2 to Angels) (1-3 on the season)

Luis De Leon– (2-for-4) 2B, RBI

Victor Figueroa– (2-for-4) 3B, 2B, Run

Kevin Hacen- (2-for-3) Run, BB

Winyer Chourio– 3 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, BB, 5 K

A six-run 4th inning broke the game open for the Angels, and it was over. The Padres’ pitching staff was knocked around for 12 runs (11 earned) on 17 hits and five walks. Winyer Chourio was lit up for five earned runs in three innings of work. The 21-year-old from Venezuela did not have it on Thursday. Erick Batista, Elvis Reyes, and Ruben Salinas followed him on the mound, and each pitcher gave up at least two runs. Miguel Valdez pitched a scoreless frame and struck out two batters in the loss.

Luis De Leon doubled and drove in a run in the game. The 19-year-old second baseman is off to a hot start in Arizona with a .857 OPS. Victor Figueroa showed some power with two extra-base hits in four at-bats. The 6-foot-5 left-handed hitter is a power threat and, at 21, is an interesting prospect. Kevin Hacen went 2-for-3 and walked in the game.

Friday’s probable pitchers

El Paso -Jared Kollar (1-3, 7.22 ERA)

San Antonio- Jagger Haynes (2-1, 4.74 ERA)

Fort Wayne- Miguel Mendez (0-0, o.oo ERA)

Lake Elsinore- Kleiber Olmedo (0-1, 8.71 ERA)
