A look at new SDSU football commit Dareon Edmonds as he prepares for his last year in high school and a future with the Aztecs.
The 2026 recruiting class is building for the San Diego State Aztecs.
This week, Sean Lewis and his coaching staff secured the services of three-star cornerback Dareon Edmonds out of Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Eastvale, California.
The 6-foot-2 corner has tremendous size and a remarkable quest for knowledge. Edmonds is focused on improving and should age well under the guidance of the San Diego State coaching staff. His focus is on improvement, but this young football player is not lacking in confidence.

His goal is the NFL. He makes that clear.
With his size and determination, it is certainly not out of the question.
Edmonds points to his family, particularly his parents, as key factors in his success.
The 2026 commit still has one full year in high school, but the Aztecs see the potential. They cannot wait to get the athletic cornerback on the campus and start his growth in the game.
Here is some more from Dareon Edmonds about the game of football.
Why SDSU? What about the school made you commit?
“I choose to commit to SDSU because there is a highly chance of me seeing the field early as a freshman. Coach Lewis and Coach Sumler showed me how I can dominate the Pac-12 and become a CB1, which meant everything to me. Many corners have been drafted from SDSU, so I feel like I will be next.”
What were your thoughts on the coaching staff at SDSU? Did anyone bond with you?
“The coaching staff is great! I created a bond with almost every coach on the staff. They are very supportive, honest, and respectful. They treat you with the utmost respect but will work you hard to reach your full potential.”
When did you first fall in love with football? What are your earliest memories of playing the game?
“I first fell in love with football during my childhood years. I was taught how to play cornerback and how to understand the game of football. I wasn’t familiar with how the game was played at first, so understanding and being taught is what helped get to where I am now.”
Describe your style of play to someone who has never seen you play the cornerback position.
“I would describe my style of play like Jalen Ramsey and Pat Surtain. I can over in press coverage and off coverage. I am elite getting out of breaks and using my length as an advantage. I will come down and tackle, and also have a high IQ during serious game situations.”
What is your greatest strength in the game?
“The greatest strength in my game is my size. I am 6-foot-2, 180 lbs., and my wingspan is around 77 inches long. I use my length as my strength because not many corners are tall and have a long wingspan. So, with me having these skills, I can shut down receivers.”

What do you feel you need to improve upon in the game and position?
“One thing I need to improve on is sustaining my confidence.”
Where does your motivation come from in playing football?
“My motivation is internal and from parents as well. I know I will make it to the next level because I have been determined and worked hard my whole life just to achieve the dreams I have.”
What are your thoughts on San Diego and the SDSU campus?
“San Diego is a very nice city. The campus is excellent, and the people are nice and welcoming.”
What kind of goals do you have for your senior year?
“The goals I have for my senior year is to achieve first team all-league and defensive MVP in the league I’m playing in right now. I want to break my coach (Josh Mitchell) interception record, which he holds with 10 interceptions.”
What are your goals for SDSU football once you get to campus?
“The goals I have for when I get to SDSU are to get acclimated with the defense as fast as possible. I am going to compete and dominate for a CB1 or CB2 position. I will also dominate in special teams. Doing this will help me reach being a freshman MVP and an NCAA Freshman All-American.”
