Padres affiliates went 2-4 on​ Tuesday.

Let’s dive right into the games played. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 15-9 vs Albuquerque) (44-58 on the season)

Dustin Harris – 3-for-5, Home Run, Two RBI

Romeo Sanabria – 1-for-4, Home Run, Two RBI

Jackson Wolf – 1.2 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 2 BB, 3 K (58 pitches – 29 strikes)

El Paso starter Jackson Wolf endured a nightmarish start against the Isotopes, allowing eight runs in 1.2 innings. Wolf gave up seven hits, with five coming in the second inning. Wolf allowed two home runs in the second inning, and was chased in the second. Justin Yeager pitched two innings, allowing four runs in his outing. Yeager allowed three home runs, including back-to-back home runs in the fourth. Misael Tamarez threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out one. Logan Gillaspie allowed three runs in two innings, and Michael Flynn struck out one in a scoreless ninth. 

Dustin Harris had a three-hit game to lead the Chihuahuas offense, launching his first El Paso home run. Nick Solak had one of five Chihuahuas doubles, driving in one run. The next-most notable swing of the game came from Romeo Sanabria, who cleared the right-center field fence with a two-run home run. For Sanabria, it was his first Triple-A home run. Mason McCoy drove in two runs, and Marcos Castanon shook off a slow series with a 1-for-3 day, reaching base twice.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 5-4 vs Amarillo) (44-53 on the season)

Albert Fabian – 1-for-4, Home Run, RBI

Francisco Acuna – 1-for-4, Home Run, Three RBI

Jamie Hitt – 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 2 K (74 pitches – 48 strikes)

The Missions used two homers to take a ninth-inning lead, but a two-run counterpunch from the Sod Poodles handed San Antonio a series-opening loss. Albert Fabian homered in the second inning, his seventh of the season and first of the month. Jake Cunningham hit two singles in the game, scoring one run. Ryan Jackson had a single, scoring one run. Francisco Acuna broke out of an 0-for-10 with a go-ahead three-run home run.

Jamie Hitt threw a quality start for the Missions, allowing three runs in six innings. Hitt struck out two batters, walking just one. The southpaw worked around nine hits, inducing two double plays to escape early jams. Igor Gil threw a scoreless seventh inning, walking two and striking out just one. Bernard Jose struck out the side in the eighth inning, and has now fanned 16 in 17.2 innings since joining the Missions. Francis Pena came on for the ninth inning. Pena had only allowed one run all month, but Amarillo tied the game within two batters, as a walk and double scored the tying run. After a sacrifice bunt by Trent Youngblood, Druw Jones walked off the game with an RBI single.

After the game, it was announced that catcher Ethan Salas, the Padres’ No. 1 prospect per EVT’s ranking, was being promoted to Triple-A El Paso.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 5-2 vs Great Lakes) (42-54 on the season)

Alex McCoy – 2-for-3, Home Run, Two RBI

Kerrington Cross – 1-for-4, Home Run, Two RBI

Miguel Mendez – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (10 pitches – 7 strikes)

Kannon Kemp – 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K (62 pitches – 41 strikes)

The TinCaps welcomed back Miguel Mendez on rehab assignment, and the former Midwest League All-Star pitched one scoreless inning with a strikeout. Mendez touched 96-99 mph on his fastball, mixing in a slider in there for good measure. Kannon Kemp, the team’s scheduled starter, pitched five innings as the bulk pitcher, striking out three batters to earn his first career High-A victory. The right-hander, who was limited early in the season due to an oblique injury, got up to 62 pitches in his five innings. With that pitch count now surpassed, he is likely to be back to full 75-80 pitch count in his next start. Kemp picked up six outs on the ground, with the only runs scored against him coming from a two-run home run by Charles Davalan. The TinCaps as a whole did a good job of keeping the potent Loons offense grounded; while the top three batters (Charles Davalan, Eduardo Quintero, Emil Morales) went a combined 5-for-11, the rest of the lineup was held to a 3-for-21 mark combined with three singles. Braian Salazar threw two innings of scoreless relief, and Will Koger worked an all-business ninth to earn his first High-A save. 

When facing the Loons, there’s usually a lot of home runs involved. This time, however, the TinCaps out-homered their opponent to win the series opener. Alex McCoy opened the scoring for the ‘Caps with his 13th home run of the season. McCoy’s home run was his first since June 21, and also extended McCoy’s on-base streak to 12 games. Kerrington Cross launched his third home run with the TinCaps in the fourth inning, a two-run blast to left-center. Cross now has hits in four straight games. Carlos E. Rodriguez had an RBI single as well, and now has reached base safely in five straight. Luke Cantwell also singled in the win.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 6-1 vs Stockton) (51-46 on the season)

Qrey Lott – 3-for-4, Triple, Double, RBI

Jorge Quintana – 1-for-4, Home Run, Three RBI

Jesus A. Castro – 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K (79 pitches – 57 strikes)

Jesus A. Castro threw one of, if not the best start in the entire Padres system on a 90-degree night in Stockton. Castro allowed just one hit, a single, in his seven innings. The right-hander struck out seven batters, generating 13 whiffs and eight ground ball outs. Castro has now thrown three consecutive starts without allowing an earned run. Carson Swilling threw a scoreless eighth despite a 42.9% strike rate, striking out one. Daichi Moriki allowed one run on two hits in the ninth, closing out the win. 

Power led the Storm to a win, as the team brought thunder in their bats. Qrey Lott opened the scoring with an RBI ground-rule double in the second inning. Lott had three hits, finishing a home run shy of the cycle. The former undrafted free agent has been on fire in July, slashing .358/.514/.491 with a 1.005 OPS in 20 games. Since becoming a mainstay in the lineup, Lott has been a key presence. Ty Harvey launched his first Single-A home run in the game, a 100 mph blast to right field. In 18 Califirnia League games, Harvey has an .862 OPS. Jorge Quintana had the coup de grace for the Storm, as the switch-hitter launched a three-run home run over the snack bar in right field. For Quintana, it was his third homer of the month after he hit just two in the first three months of the season. 

ACL Padres – No Game, Season Concluded

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 8-6 in 8 innings vs DSL Brewers Blue) (29-12 on the season)

Endy Rios – 3-for-5, Two Doubles, RBI

Dayquer Alfonzo – 3-for-4, Two Doubles, Two RBI

Carlos Alvarez – 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K

Left-hander Carlos Alvarez continued to show improvements, as he struck out eight batters in four innings. The southpaw picked up 67% of his outs via the K, and only one out against him came on a fly ball. Jederson Paez allowed an unearned run in 1.1 innings, with Joseph Uzeta allowing no runs in two-thirds of an inning. Jackson Vasquez took the loss, allowing two runs while recording just one out. Dayquer Alfonzo had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs in the game. Alfonzo has been on fire in July, with a 1.065 OPS in 19 games. Endy Rios hit two doubles in the game as well, driving in one run. Rios has a 1.113 OPS since joining the Padres Gold. Joniel Hernandez hit a single in the game, scoring two runs.  

DSL Padres Brown (Lost 19-6 vs DSL Reds) (9-31 on the season)

Jhostin Fuentes – 1-for-3, Double, Two RBI

Luis Rodriguez – 1-for-2, Home Run, RBI

Randy Soto – 2.1 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 6 BB, 0 K
Randy Soto struggled, allowing five runs in the first and eight runs in 2.1 innings. The right-hander failed to record a strikeout, walking six batters. Edward Bonifacio allowed six runs, five earned, in two-thirds of an inning. Nathanael Jacinto allowed five runs in 2.1 innings, striking out four. Jhostin Fuentes drove in two runs on a double, going 1-for-3. Luis Rodriguez hit his second home run of the month in the loss. The Padres Brown drew seven walks, but went 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position, stranding four.
