The San Diego State football program is building for the future.
Head coach Sean Lewis and his staff have an agreement with several men from the 2026 high school class.
One of the more recent commitments is that of St. Bonaventure High defensive lineman Walter Moore.
Playing in Ventura, California, Moore recorded 44 tackles, 4.5 sacks, three pass breakups, and an interception returned for a touchdown in his junior year. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Moore also caught five passes during the season while playing on the other side of the ball as a wide receiver.

For SDSU, Moore will focus on the defensive side. He brings great athleticism, and the sky is the limit for this young player.
Moore also plays basketball for his school, and that helps him with his quickness on the football field.
The talented young man is excited to join SDSU. The school’s reputation for producing NFL-caliber talent attracts young players with a goal of playing at the highest level. Moorer is no different, as that is his ultimate goal.
Here is a glimpse at Walter Moore.
Why SDSU? What made you choose the school over others?
“The reason I chose SDSU over other schools was because of their culture and also their development in the D-line room.”
Which of the SDSU coaches did you bond with? Did anyone help guide you and make your decision easier?
“I bonded the most with Coach Aurich; he was the one who threw me the offer. He also made sure it was just an overall great time. Whenever we ate, whether it was lunch or dinner, he would sit at the table with my family and me. Also, Coach Manning was great.”
What were your thoughts on the city of San Diego and the SDSU campus?
“Man, I love the city, going downtown is cool. It’s just so much to do out there. You can go to the beach. You can drive around the city. It’s just fun out there (the campus).”
DE and a WR are a unique combination for a football player. How has it helped you to play both positions? At what point did you start playing both ways?
“Playing both positions helps me in many ways. Like bending and dropping your shoulder as a DE helps me beat the press as a WR. Being able to drop my hips helps both positions as well. I started playing both ways in my junior year.”
Has the school indicated which position they’d like you to focus on? Did the school give you advice on improving?
“Yes, SDSU recommended that I focus more on DE. I committed there as a DE, but I’m sure they would also let me help my team and play as a WR as well.”
Describe your style of play to someone who has never seen you play. Are you calm or hyped?
“I feel like in the beginning or any point of the game I’m hype, but when I need to be calm and keep my composure, I can do that as well.”
Where does your motivation in the game come from? What drives you?
“The thing that makes me want to play football the most is the possibility of helping my family out. Like, I know this doesn’t last forever, but it’ll help me make some money and make sure my mom and siblings are taken care of. Then, I can invest some money as well.”
What kind of goals do you have for your senior year?
“My main goals for my last year are to win a State Championship, build a great relationship with my team, and have over 80 tackles and break the sack record for Ventura County.”
What goals do you have once you reach SDSU?
“When I reach SDSU, I want to develop into the best player I can be and sweep through the whole Pac 12.”
The Aztecs are potentially getting a great young player who is motivated.
His senior year is right around the corner, and you get a sense the Aztecs will be keeping close tabs on this man.
Here is a look at him in action during his junior year in high school.
Walter Moore is athletic. He creates matchup issues as the defensive lineman brings size, speed, and athleticism into the picture.
He looks to be a three-down lineman. He can play on the outside and make tackles as well as rush the quarterback.
We will see where the Aztecs utilize him.
For now, Walter Moore will polish his skills in high school with hopes of joining The Mesa for the 2027 season.
