Padres affiliates went 3-2 on Friday.

Let’s jump right into the games’ events. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 14-8 vs Albuquerque) (44-61 on the season)

Dustin Harris – 4-for-5, Home Run, Double, Two RBI

Nick Solak – 3-for-4, Home Run, Two RBI

Evan Fitterer – 0.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 0 K (11 pitches – 4 strikes)

El Paso lost starter Evan Fitterer after just 11 pitches, as the right-hander departed due to an undisclosed injury. Fitterer did not have the best command of his stuff, struggling to follow through in his pitching motion. Logan Gillaspie entered in long relief, allowing both inherited runners to score. The right-hander allowed three runs of his own, shouldering 3.2 innings in relief. Misael Tamarez allowed three runs in two innings, and Justin Yeager allowed five runs in two innings on three home runs. Ethan Routzahn threw the ninth inning, allowing a solo homer and nothing more. 

Dustin Harris picked up four hits, including his third Chihuahuas home run. El Paso’s center fielder tallied eight total bases, also swiping his fourth base of the season. Nick Solak hit a home run in the game, driving in two runs. Solak hit his 13th home run in the loss. Bryce Johnson was hitless in the game, but drove in two runs for El Paso. Ethan Salas went 0-for-3 in the game, but drew two walks and scored one run. 

San Antonio Missions (Lost 8-5 vs Amarillo) (44-56 on the season)

Ryan Jackson – 1-for-4, Single, RBI

Albert Fabian – 2-for-4, Two Singles, Run Scored

Andrew Thurman – 5.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K (82 pitches – 51 strikes)

Andrew Thurman pitched into the sixth inning for a second consecutive start, striking out four against Amarillo. The right-hander allowed just three hits and two walks, with nothing allowed through the fifth. Thurman allowed two RBI hits in the sixth before being relieved by Garrett Hawkins. Hawkins allowed an inherited runner to score, and two runs of his own came in to score in the sixth inning. Hawkins pitched a clean seventh. Bernard Jose allowed two runs in one-third of an inning in the eighth, with Igor Gil pitching two-thirds of an inning in relief. The Missions picked up six singles in the game, but were held scoreless by Amarillo’s Daniel Eagen. Missions hitters whiffed 18 times against Eagen, recording just three hits against the Sod Poodles’ starter. San Antonio rallied for four runs against the Sod Poodles’ bullpen in the seventh inning. Kai Roberts drew a bases-loaded walk, and Brendan Durfee reached base on a run-scoring error. Ryan Jackson hit into a forceout to score a run, and Kai Roberts scored on a wild pitch. Wyatt Hoffman scored a run on a groundout in the ninth, but the team was unable to rally late.  

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 5-2 vs Great Lakes) (44-55 on the season)

Alex McCoy – 3-for-4, Double, RBI

Kasen Wells – 2-for-4, Two Singles, RBI

Maikel Miralles – 5 IP, 0 H, 2 R (1 ER), 5 BB, 3 K (71 pitches – 38 strikes)

Left-hander Kash Mayfield was scratched from his scheduled start due to a lingering hamstring strain that he tweaked in his last start. Despite the concerning sound of the injury, Mayfield has thrown off a mound this week and is preparing to make his next start on July 7, per the TinCaps broadcast. 

Right-hander Maikel Miralles stepped into the rotation for the TinCaps, pitching five-plus innings of hitless baseball. The right-hander threw 53.5% of his pitches for strikes, generating nine swings and misses from Loons batters. Miralles walked five batters while striking out three, with six outs he recorded coming via the ground ball. The right-hander’s command has been hit-or-miss at times, but he made the most of the opportunity in front of him. Nick Falter allowed two inherited runners to score in the sixth inning, but allowed no runs of his own. Falter struck out three batters while walking none, rattling off his second straight scoreless appearance. Right-hander Will Varmette came into the game in the eighth inning and proceeded to close out the game with two scoreless innings. Varmette has now fired off 4.2 straight scoreless innings over his last two appearances, striking out three. The right-hander picked up his third save of the season in the win. 

Fort Wayne scored first in the sixth inning, as Alex McCoy lined his 26th double of the season to left field to score Justin DeCriscio. DeCriscio was responsible for tying the game in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, the former NC State shortstop hit into a double play to score the game-tying run. McCoy led off the eighth with a single and stole second base, with Luke Cantwell drawing a one-out walk to put two runners on. On a wild pitch from reliever Jakob Wright, McCoy scored the go-ahead run. Rosman Verdugo then doubled to score Cantwell, and an RBI single from Kasen Wells scored Verdugo. Wells has been strong with runners in scoring position this series, with this RBI single being his fourth run-scoring hit of the series. Ryan Wideman went 1-for-5 with a single and two stolen bases in the contest, while his defense stole the show. Wideman made a trio of SportsCenter Top 10 plays in center field, with all three coincidentally coming against Great Lakes’ Eduardo Quintero. Alex McCoy stole two bases, and Justin DeCriscio swiped his tenth base with the ‘Caps. 

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 15-5 vs Stockton) (53-47 on the season)

Yimy Tovar – 4-for-4, Two Home Runs, Four RBI

George Bilecki – 3-for-4, Two Doubles, Triple, Three RBI

Kruz Schoolcraft – 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 6 BB, 4 K (78 pitches – 37 strikes)

Despite issuing six walks, Kruz Schoolcraft’s latest start can be filed in the effectively wild section of the filing cabinet. The left-hander allowed one run in the first inning, with only eight of his first 28 pitches landing as strikes. Schoolcraft bounced back from there, facing the minimum through the next two innings thanks to a pair of double plays. Schoolcraft left the bases loaded in the fourth inning, striking out his final batter. Jeferson Villabona earned the win, throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Yoesmerli Beltre allowed four runs in the eighth inning with the game in comfortable range for the Storm, and Rordy Mejia threw a scoreless 1.1 innings to seal the win. 

Yimy Tovar had four hits in the game, hitting two home runs. Tovar’s home runs were his first two with the Storm this season, and he drove in four runs against Stockton. George Bilecki picked up three extra-base hits in the game, hitting a triple and two doubles. Bilecki had three RBI in the game, and 10 of his 19 hits in July came as extra-base hits. Conner Westenburg doubled and drove in a run, going 2-for-5. Qrey Lott drove in two runs, while also scoring twice. Yoiber Ocopio scored three runs in the game, while Ty Harvey had two hits and three RBI. Harvey also managed the running game well, as Stockton was unsuccessful on their lone stolen base attempt.

ACL Padres – No Game

DSL Padres Gold (Won 6-5 in 8 innings vs DSL CLE Mendoza) (31-12 on the season)

Yorvin Morla – 1-for-3, Walk-off RBI Single

Dayquer Alfonzo – 1-for-2, Double, RBI

Josias Figuereo – 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 1 K

The Padres Gold walked off the DSL CLE Mendoza for their 31st win of the season. Josias Figuereo went three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out one. Guillermo Romero allowed an unearned run in one inning, and Albert Perez threw two scoreless innings. Albieris Polanco earned his seventh win of the season, allowing two runs (one earned) in two innings. Johanneiker Leon drove in two runs with a single, and Yorvin Morla drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt. Joniel Hernandez went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Dayquer Alfonzo tied the game in extra innings with an RBI double, Morla then walked off the game on a ground ball single to score pinch-runner Timothy Mogen.
