Padres minor league affiliates went 4-4 on Independence Day.
Here is our daily recap of games played.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 10-6 vs Albuquerque) (45-40 on the season)
Brandon Lockridge – 3-for-5, Triple, Three Runs Scored

Forrest Wall – 3-for-4, Triple, Run Scored
Logan Gillaspie – 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K (43 pitches – 29 strikes)
The recently-outrighted Logan Gillaspie stepped into the Chihuahuas rotation and delivered four spectacular shutout innings. Gillaspie struck out three and limited hard contact, generating weak contact and getting four outs on the ground. Harold Chirino allowed three runs in 0.1 innings, and Manuel Castro got out of the jam without any more scoring. Bradgley Rodriguez got four outs in relief but departed the game due to an unspecified injury. Ron Marinaccio allowed three runs in the final two innings of work, striking out three.
Brandon Lockridge was 3-for-5 out of the leadoff spot, scoring all three times he reached base. Clay Dungan drove in two runs in a 1-for-2 day, hitting a sac fly and RBI groundout. Luis Campusano finished 1-for-4 with two RBI on the day, also scoring a run. Nate Mondou had himself a two-RBI single, and Mike Brosseau drove in two runs on two hits. Forrest Wall was 3-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, and the team was 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position, although they did quite a bit of their scoring with productive outs.
San Antonio Missions – Lost Doubleheader vs Corpus Christi
Lost 5-4 in Game 1
Romeo Sanabria – 2-for-3, Three-Run Home Run
Wyatt Hoffman – 2-for-4, Run Scored
Jagger Haynes – 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 6 K (90 pitches – 50 strikes)
The Missions got to play 1.5 games of baseball, finishing their Thursday game as part of a doubleheader. Picking up the game in the bottom of the fifth, the Missions were trailing and would continue to do so until the bottom of the seventh inning. Brandon Valenzuela had drawn a bases-loaded walk to score the team’s first run, but the lead came on one swing in the seventh. Romeo Sanabria turned on a first-pitch fastball and lined it deep to left. The ball snuck inside the foul pole and just over the wall for a three-run home run, giving the Missions a 4-3 lead. Stephen Jones recorded an out in the ninth after a scoreless eighth inning, but walked a batter before being relieved by Jake Higginbotham. The southpaw got out number two, but on a 2-2 pitch allowed a game-tying triple to center field. One pitch later, the Hooks led the game, as left fielder Luis Baez singled to right field. Higginbotham emerged from the inning allowing no further damage, but it had already been done. San Antonio went down 1-2-3 in the ninth, with Brandon Valenzuela flying out to end the game.
Wyatt Hoffman had a solid day at the plate, but he dazzled defensively in both games at shortstop and second base. His efforts make him tonight’s @FrostBank Player of the Game(s). pic.twitter.com/3PpWxAyI9h

Missions lost 7-0 in Game 2
Albert Fabian – 1-for-3, Double
Brandon Valenzuela – 1-for-3, Single
Enmanuel Pinales – 4.2 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 4 K (82 pitches – 52 strikes)
Enmanuel Pinales started for the Missions in Game 2, but faltered in the fifth inning, allowing six earned runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings of work. Pinales struck out four and walked three, with his pitches missing their location within the zone. The right-hander was also tagged for two home runs in his outing. Kevin Kopps, just assigned to San Antonio, tossed 1.1 innings of one-run baseball, recording all four of his outs via the strikeout. The lineup didn’t do much of anything, as Hooks starter Trey Dombrowski shut them out for five innings. Albert Fabian, just promoted to San Antonio, had the team’s only extra-base hit with a double, and Brandon Valenzuela had a single in the loss. Ripken Reyes drew two walks out of the leadoff spot, but the team went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, stranding six runners.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 6-3 vs Lansing) (40-38 on the season)
Brendan Durfee – 2-for-3, Two-Run Home Run
Rosman Verdugo – 3-for-4, Three Singles
Isaiah Lowe – 6.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 4 K (88 pitches – 56 strikes)
The TinCaps offense got their mojo back, as they racked up ten hits against the Lansing staff. Rosman Verdugo continues to reach base at an alarmingly high rate, as the TinCaps’ second baseman reached base three times on three hits. Once the bat gets going for Verdugo, look out, Midwest League (the California League can attest to it). Brendan Durfee picked up his first hits of the month, launching his first home run of the season in the fourth inning to score two. Ryan Jackson and Braedon Karpathios each had a two-out RBI single in the first, giving the team a 2-0 lead that would only grow. Kai Roberts and the red-hot Leo De Vries each drew two walks in the game, both scoring a run. Brandon Butterworth, playing center field, went 1-for-5 with a double, his second straight game with an extra-base hit.
The scoring did one part; Isaiah Lowe was a bulldog on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings and striking out four batters. Lowe did allow some balls in play, as Lansing batters tagged him for three runs on eight hits, but Lowe buckled down and never allowed an inning to snowball, something which was an issue for him earlier this season. Lowe has not shown the blistering strikeout stuff he did in 2024, but if he keeps getting outs on the ground, he has the potential to be a ground-ball machine with potential for strikeout stuff. Ruben Galindo threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, and Garrett Hawkins continued his dominant season with a four-out save to secure the win.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 14-6 vs Inland Empire) (36-43 on the season)
Kavares Tears – 2-for-4, Double, Triple, Three RBI
Victor Figueroa – 2-for-5, Double, Single, Three RBI
Maikel Miralles – 2.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 0 K (56 pitches – 30 strikes)
Maikel Miralles made his return to the Lake Elsinore rotation after one rehab appearance, and the right-hander showed some promising signs. Miralles got six whiffs in the game, and his stuff was effective in two of his 2.2 innings of work. His first inning was a bit shaky, but for a young arm coming off a lower-body injury, it will take some time to be fully back in rhythm. Johan Moreno pitched well in long relief, striking out six in 4.2 innings of long relief. Moreno allowed three runs, but held the 66ers in check, at one point retiring eight consecutive batters. Tanner Smith closed out the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless ball, his sixth time allowing zero earned runs this season.
Bringing a little bit of home on the road is customary for a road trip, and the Storm opted to bring their high-powered offense. Eight of nine starters in the lineup finished with at least one base hit, with six batters having multi-hit games. Cobb Hightower was 2-for-4 with two hits, two walks, and three runs scored. Kaden Hollow was 2-for-4 with a sac fly. Zach Evans had two hits in five at-bats, driving in two runs. Kavares Tears had a double and a triple in the game, driving in three runs. Victor Figueroa also drove in three runs in the game, as the New Port Richey native delivered an RBI single and two-RBI double. Carlos Rodriguez reached base a whopping five times and scored three times.
ACL Padres (Lost 7-5 vs ACL Rangers) (10-35 on the season)
Donte Grant – 3-for-5, Two-RBI Double
Kevin Hacen – 2-for-5, Double, Run Scored
Luis Maracara – 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 2 K
Luis Maracara had one of his best performances of the season for the ACL Padres. Last season’s DSL breakout arm threw 3.1 innings of two-run baseball, striking out two batters. Maracara matched his season-high in innings in a game and looks to keep building on his last five appearances. Yovannki Pascual struck out three in 1.2 innings, but allowed a run on two hits. Jose Ortega made his ACL debut with an inning of relief, allowing two runs. Xavier Ruiz took the loss, allowing two runs in 1.1 innings.
Donte Grant had a strong game at the plate, registering three hits. His biggest hit of the game was a two-RBI double that at the time gave the Padres a 4-3 lead. Yoiber Ocopio hit an RBI single to score the Padres’ first run, and Ismael Javier hit one of his own in the second inning to extend the lead to 2-0. Jose Sanabria hit an RBI double of his own to tie the game at five in the seventh inning. Luis De Leon hit two singles in the game, also stealing his 11th base of the season.
DSL Padres Gold (Won 3-2 vs DSL Braves) (14-9 on the season)
Eduarlin Tejeda – 1-for-3, Two-RBI Single
Moises Valdez – 1-for-4, Run Scored
Raymel Belliard – 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 4 K
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a quality start in the DSL! Right-hander Raymel Belliard threw six innings of two-run baseball, striking out four batters. Belliard allowed only one earned run in the game, getting seven outs via the ground ball. Johan Minaya tossed three perfect innings in relief, striking out five of nine batters faced. At the plate, Eduarlin Tejeda led the way to victory, as the Padres Gold’s third baseman had the game-winning hit with a two-RBI single in the fifth inning. Moises Valdez scored a run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch, finishing the day 1-for-4. Jhoan De La Cruz reached base once in three plate appearances, being hit by a pitch and stealing a base in the win.
DSL Padres Brown (Lost 14-0 vs DSL Rojos) (13-10 on the season)
Frederick Saguita – 1-for-3, Single
Kelvin Marte – 0.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 1 K
Victor Pilar – 1 IP, 0 H, 3 R (2 ER), 5 BB, 1 K
The Padres’ Brown’s pitching staff was torched after starter Kelvin Marte was pulled in the first inning. Marte allowed a run on three walks, but his line wound up being one of the strongest. Victor Pilar allowed two earned runs (three total) in one inning of relief, walking five batters. Gensy Aquino was knocked around for four earned runs (five runs total) while only recording two outs. Ariel Dilone had it the worst, as the right-hander allowed five runs while getting no outs. Kaden Hernandez (the infielder) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings, and fellow infielder Endy Rios threw two scoreless innings. Frederick Saguita had the team’s only base hit in the loss, and Cristian Benavides drew their only walk.
