Padres affiliates went 4-3 on Friday.

Let’s dive right into the action. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 10-5 vs Oklahoma City) (41-50 on the season)

Nick Pratto – 3-for-3, Home Run, Three RBI

Nick Solak – 2-for-4, Double

Miguel Cienfuegos – 2.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R (2 ER), 3 BB, 4 K (63 pitches – 39 strikes)

El Paso’s pitching staff could not hold the Comets at bay, as they allowed ten runs in a loss to OKC. Miguel Cienfuegos allowed three runs (two earned) in 2.1 innings of work, striking out four batters. The left-hander allowed three doubles, walking three in his outing. Johan Moreno made his El Paso debut, pitching 1.2 innings of three-run baseball. While Moreno allowed three barrels, he picked up four of his five outs recorded via the punchout. His slider graded out especially well, registering a 107 Stuff+. Andrew Moore allowed one run on three walks and a base hit, but allowed three inherited runners to score. Logan Gillaspie allowed a solo home run in 1.2 innings of work, picking up two strikeouts. Justin Yeager threw the final 1.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits. 

Nick Pratto was the key to the Chihuahuas’ lineup in the game, going a perfect 3-for-3. Pratto hit a home run in the second inning, later driving in two runs on an RBI single in the ninth inning. The 27-year old is hitting .268 with 15 RBI in 23 games since joining the Chihuahuas in early June. Nick Solak had two hits, including a double, reaching base three times in the game. Mason McCoy had two hits in five at-bats, driving in one run on an RBI single in the seventh inning. Blake Hunt went 1-for-5 with an RBI single in the ninth inning, while Romeo Sanabria also had one hit in five at-bats. Clay Dungan had two singles in the game, scoring two runs; Nate Mondou also had two singles, scoring one run. 

San Antonio Missions (Won 8-7 vs Midland) (38-47 on the season)

Wyatt Hoffman – 2-for-5, Home Run, Two RBI

Ethan Salas – 3-for-4, Double, Run Scored

Eric Yost – 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 7 K (87 pitches – 51 strikes)

Right-hander Eric Yost threw five innings of one-run baseball in his latest start. Yost struck out seven batters despite four walks. Less than a week removed from his Triple-A debut, Yost delivered an outing that allowed the Missions to take a 4-1 lead. Josh Mallitz allowed three runs in 1.2 innings, giving up a three-run home run to former teammate Leo De Vries. Ryan Och allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning, and Sadrac Franco picked up a five-out save, allowing just one hit. 

Jake Cunningham opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning, and Albert Fabian hit another single to score Cunningham. Fabian’s base hit came against his former TinCaps teammate Henry Baez. Wyatt Hoffman hit his first homer of the season with the Missions in the fourth inning, and Brendan Durfee hit a single to score a run in the sixth inning. The Missions added two more in the seventh, with Kai Roberts hitting a squeeze bunt to score Jake Cunningham. Wyatt Hoffman also drove in a run in the frame with an RBI single. Tirso Ornelas doubled in the eighth to score Ethan Salas, with Ornelas scoring on a wild pitch. San Antonio stole five bases in the win, with Jake Cunningham stealing two bases. Ethan Salas tacked on another, and Kai Roberts added to his team lead with another stolen base, his 29th of the season. 

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 6-3 vs West Michigan) (35-50 on the season)

Alex McCoy – 2-for-5, Double, Three RBI

Luke Cantwell – 2-for-2, Home Run, Three Walks, Two Runs Scored

Abraham Parra – 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K (77 pitches – 51 strikes)

Right-hander Abraham Parra stepped into the rotation in Kash Mayfield’s spot and earned the win over West Michigan. With Mayfield heading to the All-Star Futures Game in Philadelphia, Parra made his first start since June 20, pitching five innings of one-run baseball. Parra struck out two batters, walking two. On the batted-ball side of things, he picked up six ground-ball outs and induced two ground-ball double plays, facing the minimum through three. With the All-Star Break coming up, this is the kind of outing that Parra can build some momentum with. Igor Gil threw 2.2 innings of two-run baseball, striking out three batters. Clark Candiotti, who returned to the TinCaps this week, pitched the final inning and a third, striking out one to earn his first save of the season. 

Alex McCoy put the TinCaps ahead in the first inning, as his 23rd double of the season scored Justin DeCriscio from first base. McCoy went on to drive in three runs in the contest; his second-inning two-run single extended the lead to 4-0 at that stage in the game. Zach Evans picked up his first RBI of the series with an RBI single in the second inning, scoring Luke Cantwell. Carlos E. Rodriguez singled to center field to score another run in the fifth inning, with Kavares Tears crossing home on the hit. Luke Cantwell’s third TinCaps homer of the season scored the team’s sixth and final run; Cantwell went a perfect 2-for-2 with three walks drawn, reaching base five times before being replaced by a pinch-runner late in the game. Justin DeCriscio and Ryan Wideman each had three singles in the game, though neither was successful on stolen base attempts. Kerrington Cross hit two singles, scoring one run. 

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 5-4 vs Rancho Cucamonga) (44-41 on the season)

George Bilecki – 1-for-3, Double, Two RBI

Bradley Frye – 2-for-5, Two Singles, Run Scored

Kruz Schoolcraft – 5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K (63 pitches – 37 strikes)

A strong start from Kruz Schoolcraft had the Storm en route to a win before the Quakes scored four unanswered and pulled the rug out from underneath the visiting Storm. Schoolcraft pitched 5.1 innings, allowing just one run on five hits. The former first-rounder struck out three batters, recording six of 16 outs via the ground ball. Schoolcraft recorded whiffs on nine of 30 swings, good for a 30% whiff rate. Rordy Mejia allowed one unearned run in 1.2 innings of work, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the sixth with a timely double play. Yoesmerli Beltre allowed one run in the eighth inning, striking out three of six batters faced. Carson Swilling entered the game in the ninth, but a walk and an error on a sacrifice bunt had two on with no outs. Swilling plunked Anyelo Marquez before a bloop single down the right field line off the bat of Ryland Zaborowski won the game for the Quakes. 

At the dish, George Bilecki produced two of the four runs for Lake Elsinore. Bilecki got the Storm on the board with a two-run double in the fourth inning, scoring Bradley Frye and Yoiber Ocopio. Frye drove in the Storm’s third run, as he singled in the fifth inning to score Jorge Quintana. Quintana reached base twice in the game. Jose Verdugo hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, with George Bilecki crossing home. Quintana, Bilecki, and Dawson Willis all stole a base in the game. Lake Elsinore went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, stranding nine baserunners. 

ACL Padres (Lost 1-0 vs ACL Mariners) (27-23 on the season)

Eddson Martinez – 1-for-2, Double

Jhoan De La Cruz – 1-for-1, Single, Walk

Cameron Nohos – 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K

The Padres and Mariners engaged in a pitcher’s duel in the desert, but the ACL Padres came out on the wrong end. Cameron Nohos fired off four innings of one-run baseball, striking out four batters. The right-hander held his own against the Seattle affiliate in 109-degree heat, picking up four outs on the ground. Jose Leclerc struck out two batters in a scoreless inning, and Ryan Reed pitched a scoreless sixth inning with one strikeout. Eddson Martinez had one of the three Padres hits, as he doubled to lead off the game. Santiago Contreras also hit a double, going 1-for-3 in the game. Jhoan De La Cruz reached base in both of his plate appearances, hitting a single in the third and walking in the sixth inning. 

DSL Padres Gold (Won 5-2 vs DSL Red Sox Blue) (22-6 on the season)

Sebastian Nadales – 2-for-4, Two Singles, RBI

Dayquer Alfonzo – 2-for-5, Two Singles, RBI

Josias Figuereo – 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K 

The DSL Padres Gold rode a stellar performance by the pitching staff to a win over the DSL Red Sox Blue. Josias Figuereo threw four innings of one-run baseball, striking out one. Figuereo generated nine ground ball outs in the game. Yunny Tover pitched four innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out four batters. Jose Perez allowed one run on a solo home run in the ninth inning, but nothing further to close out the Padres Gold’s win. Sebastian Nadales went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two singles. Dayquer Alfonzo also had two singles, driving in one run. Yorvin Morla had two hits and two stolen bases atop the lineup. Timothy Mogen picked up an RBI single in the game, his 16th RBI of the season. 

DSL Padres Brown (Won 3-2 in 8 innings vs DSL Orioles Black) (6-22 on the season)

Jhostin Fuentes – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Sebastian Maldonado – 1-for-4, RBI Single

Raudi Perez – 6 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K

The Padres Brown picked up another win, this time winning in extras over the DSL Orioles Black. Raudi Perez pitched six innings of one-run baseball for the Padres Brown, striking out three batters. Perez’s outing was the first for a Padres DSL pitcher to last six innings this season. Angel Gamarra threw 1.1 innings of one-run baseball, and Aneurys Sosa struck out the final two batters faced to earn the save. Jhostin Fuentes drove in a run with an RBI single, and Yonaiker Hernandez scored a run on a throwing error by Orioles catcher Victor Saez. Sebastian Maldonado drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth with an RBI single, scoring Rafael Moran.
