Padres minor league teams went 4-3 on Friday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 9-6 vs Sugar Land) (25-36 on the season)

Carlos D. Rodriguez – 1-for-5, Two-Run Single

Nick Schnell – 1-for-3, Double, Two RBI

JP Sears – 3.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 2 BB, 5 K (92 pitches – 55 strikes)

JP Sears labored through 3.2 innings against Sugar Land, allowing seven runs. Sears matched a season-high in runs allowed, and his ERA has ballooned to 7.62 in 54.1 innings across 12 starts. Yes, Sears is averaging less than five innings a start this season. Michael Flynn picked up the final out of the fourth. Ty Adcock made his El Paso debut, allowing two runs in one-third of an inning. Garrett Hawkins’ command returned to his hands, as he picked up five outs in scoreless relief. Hawkins averaged 95.4 mph on the fastball while averaging 17 inches of induced vertical break at the El Paso altitude. If he can have this kind of movement at the altitude while harnessing his command, he could re-cement himself as an MLB option. Logan Gillaspie threw two scoreless innings, striking out one.

The Chihuahuas’ offense drew six walks, but stranded ten baserunners in the loss. Carlos D. Rodriguez hit a two-run single in the second inning, one of El Paso’s three hits with runners in scoring position. Pablo Reyes reached base three times from the leadoff spot, but was left stranded all three instances. Nick Solak hit two singles, scoring a run. Marcos Castanon hit an RBI double as part of a three-run fifth; for Castanon, he extended his hitting streak to seven games. Clay Dungan hit an RBI single as part of a two-hit game, and Nick Schnell drove in two runs in the Chihuahuas’ comeback effort. Will Wagner drew two walks, scoring a run.

San Antonio Missions (Won 2-0 vs Wichita) (23-32 on the season)

Francisco Acuna – 2-for-3, Two Singles, Walk

Carson Tucker – 1-for-3, Single, Two Walks, Run Scored

Miguel Mendez – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K (58 pitches – 36 strikes)

Miguel Mendez fired one of his best games at the Double-A level, pitching five shutout innings. The right-hander was efficient as well, as he did so on just 58 pitches. Mendez’s fastball was back to its high-90s form, and he picked up 11 whiffs. Mendez has now made five starts since returning from injury, and has not allowed an earned run in his past two starts. Eric Yost threw two innings in relief, striking out two but walking five, Yost showed some rust in just his second outing since coming off the injured list, but his breaking stuff showed the same life it had before his IL stint. Johan Moreno picked up his second six-out save of the series, striking out three.

San Antonio tallied ten hits en route to victory. Carson Tucker had one of nine Missions singles, scoring a run and drawing two walks. Braedon Karpathios and Francisco Acuna finished with two hits apiece, with Acuna reaching three times. Tirso Ornelas doubled and scored a run. Romeo Sanabria went 1-for-4 with an RBI single, the team’s lone RBI hit of the game. Ethan Salas went 0-for-5 in the loss.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 11-8 vs Lake County) (24-31 on the season)

Jake Cunningham – 3-for-5, Three Home Runs, Six RBI

Justin DeCriscio – 3-for-5, Three Singles, RBI

Kash Mayfield – 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K (78 pitches – 51 strikes)

Left-hander Kash Mayfield struck out four in five innings against Lake County. The Padres’ No. 3 prospect bounced back from a difficult start against South Bend, this time only giving up three runs. Home runs were a problem for Mayfield, as he allowed three solo home runs to the Captains. Mayfield was able to generate 10 swings and misses in his outing, and it was a solid bounce-back effort for the former first-round pick. Ryan Och allowed three runs (one earned) in 1.1 innings, and Jeferson Villabona ended the seventh without allowing any further damage. Igor Gil allowed two runners while recording two outs in the eighth, prompting manager Jonathan Matthews to call for Clay Edmondson. The right-hander did not allow an earned run in all of May, but Aaron Walton and Nolan Schubart hit back-to-back homers against the TinCaps closer to flip the score in the Captains’ favor. Edmondson was charged with one more run in the ninth, with a bequeathed runner coming in to score against CJ Widger.

Fort Wayne’s lineup did plenty of heavy lifting early, thanks in large part to Jake Cunningham. Cunningham tied a franchise record with three home runs in a game, and he now leads the team with 13 home runs on the season. On a larger scale, Cunningham trails only Brewers No. 6 prospect Andrew Fischer for home runs in the Midwest League. The TinCaps’ right fielder also drove in six runs, a career-high. Justin DeCriscio hit three singles and drove in a run, also scoring once. Jonathan Vastine singled and scored a run, while Rosman Verdugo went 1-for-4 with a walk, single, and run scored.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 9-4 vs Fresno) (32-23 on the season)

Ryan Wideman – 3-for-5, Triple, Two RBI

Kerrington Cross – 2-for-4, Two-Run Home Run

Kruz Schoolcraft – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K (68 pitches – 43 strikes)

A big round of applause for left-hander Kruz Schoolcraft, who picked up his first win at the professional level on Friday night. The left-hander struck out three in five innings of one-run baseball. Schoolcraft had the Fresno lineup completely dazed at the dish, as his three-pitch mix allowed him to get rather uncomfortable swings from opposing batters. The left-hander’s slider and changeup sequenced well with his fastball, allowing him to pick up seven outs via the ground ball. Schoolcraft was touching as high as 96-97 mph on his four-seam fastball, even in the fifth inning, which was pointed out by the Fresno broadcast. Cal Riehl pitched one inning in relief, allowing one run, and Rordy Mejia allowed two unearned runs in two innings. Carson Swilling bounced back from a tough outing on June 3, pitching a scoreless ninth inning that went 1-2-3.

The Storm offense was back to Storming all over the field, putting up seven of their nine runs in the fifth inning. Ryan Wideman was back in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs batted in. Wideman also scored two runs, coming in to score on each of the two Storm home runs. Speaking of home runs, Jose Verdugo launched a two-run home run in the third inning to give Lake Elsinore a 2-1 lead at the time. The lead was extended in the fifth, as Kerrington Cross hit a two-run home run of his own. Since taking over the full-time first base position after Luke Cantwell went on the injured list, Cross has reached base safely in 18 consecutive games; five of his seven home runs have come across that stretch. Jorge Quintana hit two singles, driving in a run. Dylan Grego hit a two-run double in the fifth, also drawing a walk in the game. Ryan Wideman’s triple scored the final two runs of the fifth inning, and Lake Elsinore led 9-1. Yoiber Ocopio went 2-for-5 with a double, and Truitt Madonna was 1-for-5 with a single.

ACL Padres (Lost 3-2 vs ACL Royals) (12-13 on the season)

Santiago Vargas – 1-for-4, RBI Double

Colton Vincent – 2-for-4, RBI Single

Lan-Hong Su – 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K (41 pitches – 27 strikes)

Lan-Hong Su fired three hitless innings, striking out five. The right-hander touched as high as 96.0 mph on the four-seam fastball, showing off a four-pitch mix that included a changeup, curveball, and slider. Su was effective, and his pitch sequencing showed maturity for a pitcher of his age. Daison Acosta opened for Su, tossing a scoreless inning on a rehab assignment. Adler Cecil pitched 2.1 innings of hitless baseball, but issued three walks and allowed two runs. The California native threw fastballs and changeups exclusively until his final pitch, a slider at 79.6 mph. Landry Jurecka threw 1.2 innings of relief, allowing two hits but no runs. Jurecka’s arsenal consisted of a sinker, slider, curveball, and cutter against the Royals, a starter’s mix that could keep opponents guessing out of the bullpen. Bernard Jose took the loss, allowing a walk-off single in the ninth.

The Padres’ offense was fairly quiet after a 13-run outburst, scoring just twice. Luis De Leon hit two singles, picking up one stolen base in two attempts. Santiago Vargas hit an RBI double, and Colton Vincent had two hits, including an RBI single. Cardell Thibodeaux, the Padres’ 16th-round pick in 2025, hit a double and scored a run in the game. Thibodeaux is hitting .273 so far in ACL play and could be back in Lake Elsinore in the second half. Santiago Contreras hit a double and scored a run. Wyatt Hoffman, who was just assigned to the ACL on rehab assignment, went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts as the team’s DH.

DSL Padres Gold (Won 11-6 vs DSL Braves (2-2 on the season)

Eddson Martinez – 2-for-3, Double, RBI, Two Runs Scored

Abraham Bastidas – 1-for-4, Two-RBI Single

Josias Figureo – 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 8 K

Josias Figuereo pitched well in his first start of the season, striking out eight batters in four innings. Figuereo allowed two runs on four hits, and, in a much more familiar role, was able to be successful. Despite a pair of wild pitches and a balk, the right-hander struck out 44% of batters faced in the game (8/18 batters down by way of the K). Daniel Burciaga allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning in his season debut, and Albieris Polanco allowed two runs in 2.1 innings, closing out the win.

Eddson Martinez continued to be an OBP machine, reaching base four times out of the leadoff spot. Martinez hit a double, scored two runs, and drove in one against the DSL Braves. The Jinotega, Nicaragua native is 7-for-14 with six walks to three strikeouts this season. The 5-foot-5, 145 lb outfielder has been a bright spot early on for the DSL Padres this year. Joniel Hernandez drew two walks, scoring twice in the game. Abraham Bastidas hit a two-run single, and Timothy Mogen hit a single, drawing two walks. The Padres Gold drew 17 walks in the game, with every starting position player drawing at least one walk.

DSL Padres Brown (Won 13-11 vs DSL Athletics) (1-3 on the season)

Ronnier Heras – 3-for-4, Three Singles, Three RBI

Endy Rios – 2-for-3, Triple, Two RBI

Yojansy Perez – 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R (1 ER), 0 BB, 3 K

Left-hander Yojansy Perez had a strong professional debut with four innings of two-run baseball. The Dominican left-hander struck out three batters, getting 67% of his outs via the ground ball. Dioscaride Sarit allowed five runs while recording no outs; Sarit walked three and gave up two hits. Two bequeathed runners came in to score against Gensy Aquino, who allowed two runs (one earned) in 1.1 innings. Kelvin Marte fired 1.2 innings, allowing two unearned runs while picking up two strikeouts.

The Padres Brown took advantage of three Athletics errors in the high-scoring affair. Ronnier Heras had himself a day, as the Padres’ shortstop went 3-for-4 with three singles. Heras drove in three runs in the game, with a game-tying two-run single in the fifth being the highlight of his performance. Yonaiker Hernandez drove in two runs on two hits, scoring three runs. Endy Rios drove in two runs on a triple and a single, scoring two runs of his own as well. Jeanfranco Fernandez drove in two runs, and Luis Rodriguez hit an RBI double in the 13-run outburst.
