Rocklin High School standout Dominic Coelho is heading south to sunny San Diego.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive lineman from Rocklin, California, has become the latest football player to commit to the future of San Diego State University’s program. Now entering his senior year, Coelho can set his sights on a clear destination for his college career.

After receiving offers from Washington State, UNLV, New Mexico, and Sacramento State, the junior edge rusher ultimately chose SDSU. For Coelho, the decision wasn’t just about football—it was about finding the right place to grow as both an athlete and a person.

“I really just liked their coaching staff,” Coelho said. “They were real with me from the start. Other schools tried to tell me what I wanted to hear, but San Diego State was upfront and honest—and I respected that.”

That honesty resonates with Coelho, who values integrity both at home and on the field. Choosing a school that shared that approach was central to his decision.

Built for the Game, Focused on Growth

Coelho has quickly emerged as a disruptive force for Rocklin. A hybrid edge rusher, he combines strength and refined technique with burst off the line.

“I used to be more of a speed guy, but I’ve put on weight recently,” Coelho said. “Now I use quickness—more than pure speed—to get around tackles.”

And with those tools, he’s already thinking ahead.

“I want to help the football program reach its greatest potential. Obviously, winning games is always the goal. But I also want to be a major sack leader in college. That’s really important to me, and I’m going to work my butt off to get there.”

Even before his first snap as a senior, Coelho’s mindset is focused on elevating both his game and the team around him.

He’s entering his final high school season with two clear goals: lead his section in sacks and earn Lineman of the Year honors. But his ambitions don’t end on the field. In the classroom, Coelho is targeting a 4.0 GPA.  “I’ve got fewer classes this year, so it’s the perfect time to hone in and get it done academically.”

Faith at the Forefront

Coelho’s drive is fueled by something deeper than stats or accolades—his faith. A devout Catholic, he credits his relationship with God for keeping him grounded and focused.

“God gave me this purpose,” he said. “Before every game, I lead the team in prayer. I wouldn’t be here without Him.”

In a recruiting world full of hype and distractions, Coelho isn’t afraid to be open about his beliefs.

“I’m not going to hide it. I think if I’m true to who I am, people will respect that.”

A Leader in the Making

Coelho’s leadership isn’t just vocal—it’s lived. He describes his playing style as “high-effort” and intends to bring that same energy to SDSU.

“I just want to lead by example,” he said. “Pour everything into the program, show the guys what it means to be here, and help push SDSU to reach its full potential.”

That approach has already earned the trust of his coaches at Rocklin High School. Coelho speaks highly of both his head coach and position coach, describing them as key figures in his growth as both a player and a young man.

“My head coach has helped me find myself,” Coelho said. “He’s more of a mentor than a father figure, but he’s had a big impact on me.”

A Future Beyond Football

Though football is his passion, Coelho’s vision for the future isn’t limited to the sport. He plans to study public health at SDSU and pursue a career as a firefighter after college.

“I’m not banking on going pro,” he said. “My mentality is: put my head down, work hard, and if it happens, it happens. But I’m not going in without a plan.”

His ultimate motivation? Living up to what he believes is a higher calling.

“I believe we all have a purpose, and we get to choose whether to fulfill it or not. I’m trying to make the most of mine.”

Family, Foundation, and the Future

Off the field, Coelho stays grounded through family. The youngest of five brothers, he’s grown up in a household filled with athletic energy—and love.

“All my brothers were athletes—wrestling, rugby, football. I’m the only one going to play in college, but they’ve all been supportive.”

These days, he often comes home from practice to spend time with his nieces and nephews, a daily routine that keeps him connected and centered.

As he prepares for his senior year at Rocklin and the next chapter in San Diego, one thing is clear: Dominic Coelho isn’t just another recruit. He’s a student of the game, a man of faith, and a young leader with a clear path forward.

And for Aztec fans, that’s something to be excited about.
