There is no doubt about it now, Miles Byrd is one of the most electric players in the nation.
As a 6-foot-7 wing, the redshirt-sophomore shows his unique skillset on the defensive end by aggressively swatting shots and picking off passes. On the offensive end, he can create open looks by stepping back and using his size to get shots off defenders. He can also drive to the basket and dunk as well as anyone. Hitting shots at a consistent rate has been the only knock on the young star.
On Thursday, after a huge win against New Mexico, Byrd provided an update on his basketball future to the media.
Big Scoop! Miles Byrd says he will NOT enter transfer portal after the season but will consider turning pro. If he returns to college it will only be to SDSU! @Aztec_MBB Link to latest episode of @Aztecs_All_In podcast https://t.co/PlR1zo75oL pic.twitter.com/jJn4U3XrW9

This recent news is great to hear if you are a fan or attend San Diego State University. Imagine how Brian Dutcher would feel to be able to get him back for one more season. Byrd is not only a great basketball player, but he is a fun person to be around and his personality is contagious. He has many fans and there is not a school in the country that wouldn’t want him representing their program. With that said, Byrd is either an Aztec for life or is going pro.
Byrd has the ability to play in the NBA. His defensive prowess is what put him on the radar and there have been scouts at a majority of the contests this season, home and away. Whether he is ready for the NBA right now is a conversation for a later time. For now, he has more work to do in order to help his team reach the NCAA Tournament yet again.

Please Mr. Byrd. Do not make the same mistake of leaving the Aztecs for the pro’s like so many other former Aztecs. Stay with the program and continue growing. Your talent is immense and if you stay the Aztecs will be special next year with Watters, yourself, Boyd, Pharoah, Gwath, Majak, Simmons, Davis and Degourville.
