The frustrations continue for star forward Magoon Gwath. According to Mark Zeigler of the San Diego Union Tribune, the SDSU big man will miss Wednesday’s game against Grand Canyon, and potentially more.

This news is not shocking, as he suffered a hip-flexor injury at Wyoming and re-aggravated it at home against New Mexico.

Gwath was able to return to action after suffering the injury early in the contest. However, Gwath was unable to settle down and played only 10 minutes of action against the Lobos.

Head coach Brian Dutcher spoke after the win against New Mexico that he hoped Gwath would have a bounce-back game against Grand Canyon. For Gwath to be ruled out, the medical staff likely made this call. This decision could be a good thing, as he will come back much healthier when the Aztecs need him the most, down the stretch of conference play.

This injury is a part of a short list of hurdles that are in the way right now. Gwath is capable of overcoming these obstacles, but it looks like he is going to have to wait in order to do so.

Jeremiah Oden is the likely candidate to start in place of Gwath once again. Oden began the season as the starting four until Gwath returned to the lineup. Oden then replaced Gwath again as a starter for a few games until Gwath returned to the starting five once again. With the 7-footer out, Oden, Tae Simmons, and Pharaoh Compton will play additional minutes.

I'd like this amount to

Magoon Gwath is averaging only 18.4 minutes per game this season.

The hope when he returns is that he can play north of 24 minutes per game with Dutcher’s deep lineup. Gwath is shooting 57% from the field and 57.9% from beyond the arc. You just know he is due for another Fresno State-type of breakout game at some point.
