San Diego Wave sign young goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo

This Tuesday, January 27, the San Diego Wave officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo.
The 18-year-old shot-stopper comes over from Colombian team Deportivo Cali on a three-year deal through the 2028 season.
The Wave lost star goalie Kailen Sheridan this offseason, and any extra insurance in that position is not a bad thing. Sheridan is still among the very best in NWSL, and there are big gloves to fill in that role for the Wave.
Veteran Didi Haracic is likely to begin the 2026 NWSL season as the Wave’s starting option in net. However, Agudelo is very talented and has shown plenty of confidence in between the sticks.

The teenage goalkeeper will be fighting for playing time throughout the campaign, and it will be interesting to see just what role she provides. SD Wave FC Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton spoke about Agudelo and what she brings.
“Luisa is an exceptional young goalkeeper who has already proven she can perform in championship environments,” said Ashton. “At just 18, she brings poise, technical quality, and international experience well beyond her years. We believe her profile and mentality align strongly with how we want to build this roster, both now and for the future.”
Agudelo has participated in some major international tournaments. Most notably, winning a silver medal at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The Cali, Colombia native also represented her country at the 2025 Copa America Femenina, but did not make an appearance.
Agudelo spoke about this next phase of her career in San Diego. “I’m so excited to be here and take this next step with San Diego Wave FC. From my first conversations with the club, the ambition, professionalism, and expectations to compete at the highest level were clear,” said Agudelo.
There is still a long way out until the start of the NWSL season on March 14, and it will be interesting to see which other moves San Diego makes to compensate for the loss of a few key players.
