San Diego Wave sign Perle Morroni through 2026 season
This Thursday, August 22, the San Diego Wave announced the signing of 26-year-old French fullback Perle Morroni.
Morroni signed a contract with San Diego through the 2026 season, reuniting with former teammate Delphine Cascarino.
The French international has had a very illustrious career to this point, playing with PSG, Barcelona, and Lyon. The bulk of Morroni’s youth career was with PSG, and she spent six seasons with the Parisian side.
With Paris Saint Germain, Morroni was part of a league-winning team in the 2020-2021 season and also was part of two runner-up Champions League sides.
Over the past few seasons with Lyon, the French defender has enjoyed massive success with three league titles and a Champions League trophy win. Morroni has had to battle for playing time with teammate Salma Bacha and has only started ten games in this past Division 1 Feminine season.

The 26-year-old fullback had much more playing time in the 2022/2023 season as. This move is not surprising after limited playing time. Morroni has previously played with the France national team, but recently has also not received many call-ups with heavy competition from Salma Bacha and Sakina Karchaoui.
San Diego Wave FC Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton commented on the Morroni signing. “Perle is a dynamic, exciting fullback who brings a wealth of experience as well as a winning mentality to San Diego.”
Hanna Lundkvist and Kristen McNabb have played in the left-back position this season for the Wave. Morroni brings a plethora of experience and definitely has better offensive traits going forward in that position than anyone else on the San Diego roster.
The link-up between Morroni and new signing Delphine Casacarino is a possibility, even if Casacrino usually plays on the opposite wing. It will be interesting to see how the ideal starting lineup for Landon Donovan shapes up when Morroni is fully available to play.
Delphine Cascarino just had her first training session with San Diego Wave and should feature this Saturday against Angel City FC. The Wave are coming off a 2-0 win against Panamanian side Santa Fe in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
The game against Angel City this Saturday, August 24, is set to be a very intense and exciting rivalry match at Snapdragon Stadium.
