San Diego Wave heads to New Jersey to face Gotham FC

San Diego FC/Gotham FC

This Friday, San Diego Wave FC travels cross-country to face NJ/NY Gotham FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. PT, as the Wave look to keep their unbeaten run alive and gain ground in the NWSL standings.
San Diego holds a strong 5-1-1 record against Gotham but will be looking to bounce back after falling 2-1 in their last matchup. With a four-game unbeaten streak and back-to-back away wins, the Wave are riding a solid wave of momentum.
In their most recent match, San Diego drew 1-1 against the Portland Thorns at Snapdragon Stadium. Kimmi Ascanio opened the scoring with a clinical finish off a lofted assist from Perle Morroni. The Wave nearly secured the full three points before a late stoppage-time penalty allowed Portland to equalize.

Gotham FC comes into Friday’s contest hoping to reverse recent form, having failed to win in their last two matches. They lost 1-0 to Racing Louisville on May 9 and played to a scoreless draw with the Chicago Stars just days earlier. Gotham’s only goal across those two games came from a long-range strike by former Wave player Taylor Flint.
Through eight matches, San Diego Wave currently sits fourth in the NWSL standings, just four points off the top.
With the season heating up, every match matters, and Friday’s clash could be another key chapter in the Wave’s push for the top.
