The San Diego Wave will host the Portland Thorns at Snapdragon Stadium this Saturday, May 10, for a game in the 2025 NWSL season.
San Diego is on a three-game winning streak, coming off a 2-1 home win against Bay FC.
Trinity Armstrong scored her first professional goal in stoppage time to win the game dramatically for the Wave. Both goals for the Wave came from defenders, as Kennedy Wesley scored the other goal in the match.
Kenza Dali and Maria Sanchez provided the assists as San Diego’s offense continued to be productive. Delphine Cascarino was also very involved in the attack and was one of the better players in the clash.
Adriana Leon and Melanie Barcenas both started the game against Bay FC on the bench as Jonas Eidevall is finding production from several different players. The Swedish manager still seems to be looking for his ideal starting 11, but several players have stayed active and consistent.
It will be interesting to see how Eidevall sets up the attack, and especially who the starting striker will be for this match.
Portland has also had a solid start to the season and is on a three-game undefeated streak, coming off a 1-0 win against Orlando. This was an impressive win as Orlando had only lost one other game this season and had only been shut out in one other game.
Goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold played an important role in that shutout and will be a key player to watch in this game. Thorns’ captain Samantha Coffey is also a very key player and will be important in the veteran midfield duel against Kenza Dali and Savannah McCaskill.
Reilyn Turner leads Portland with three goals scored and has been vital this year, with the club missing Sophia Wilson and Morgan Weaver. These key absences have been a lingering worry for the Thorns, but the team is off to a nice start and always brings a competitive spirit against San Diego.
