Padres EVT Podcast: Episode 25 with Scott Miller
In this 25th episode of the Padres EVT Podcast we bring you Scott Miller of Bleacher Report and Fox Sports San Diego. Watching San Diego Padres games you will see Scott talking to Mark Pomeranz and Mark Sweeney before and after the game about everything Padres related. He has a lot of insight on the team and we are lucky to have him on the show.
We first find out a little bit about Scott and hear his connections to the city of San Diego and the Padres. He has worked many for a few sites including CBS Sports and Turner Sports and with that experience he has learned so much about the game of baseball. Scott has a passion about the game and that is quite evident in his work. I love seeing passion from people in his line of work. It makes the game that much more enjoyable.
We ask Scott about A.J. Preller whom he has spoken to numerous amounts of times. In fact Scott tells us that he joked with A.J. and deemed him the “Elevator Music G.M.” instead of “Rockstar G.M.” after the failed attempt the 2015 season was. Preller laughed off the moniker and that is why I respect the young G.M. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and is always willing to be a better leader. Scott has positive things to say about Preller and that really comes as no surprise.
We discuss Andy Green and the young manager also comes with high praise from Scott Miller. He tells us that he spoke to Tony LaRussa the day Andy Green was hired and the former manager spoke extremely highly of Green. The rookie manager has tremendous upside even though he is still a little rough around the edges. Mark McGwire is also discussed as Scott informs us that McGwire is also learning on the job. The duo have done well so far, but they do have much to learn when it comes to commanding the team.
Derek Norris and Austin Hedges are discussed. In El Paso, Hedges is on fire and with that the 23-year-old is pushing the Padres to make a decision on his future. Derek Norris seems like the likely candidate to be dealt but you really never know with Preller at the helm. Scott believes Norris will be dealt too, but like all of us, we will just have to wait and see.
Melvin Upton Jr. and Matt Kemp are talked about by us as we try to determine if the Padres can deal either to make room for Hunter Renfroe, Manuel Margot and company. Scott, like us, believes Kemp’s contract will be nearly impossible to move. He also states some insight about Upton and what he has heard from his sources about the situation. You will want to hear what he has to say.
This was a great show. It was a brief podcast as Scott had prior commitments and honestly my audio was horrendous. We should have Scott on again shortly providing us more information about the team. Towards the trade deadline we hope to have him on discussing the latest in Padres rumors.
