MILB

San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-2 on Saturday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 14-8 over Round Rock) (19-19 on the season)
Oscar Gonzalez- (2-for-5) 2B, 2 Runs, RBI
Eguy Rosario– (2-for-3) 2B, SB, 2 Runs, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Clay Dungan– (3-for-4) 3B, Run, RBI, BB
Jared Kollar- 5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (81 pitches- 49 strikes)
A seven-run third inning powered the El Paso Chihuahuas over the Round Rock Express by the score of 14-8. El Paso put on a hitting display, recording 15 hits and walking six times in the game. Each member of the lineup recorded a hit on the night. Clay Dungan led the team with base hits, including a triple. Eguy Rosario continues to tear up Triple-A pitching. Rosario went 2-for-3 in the game with a double. Yonathan Perlza homered in the game and drove in three runs. Center fielder Forrest Wall also homered on the night for El Paso.

Jared Kolar made the start and was effective, going 5.2 innings for the win. He allowed three earned runs on six hits in the game. Harold Chirino was knocked around for three earned runs in 1.1 innings of work for the Chihuahuas. Jason Blanchard recorded the last two outs of the game and lowered his ERA on the season after a rough start.
San Antonio Missions (Won 2-1 over Frisco) (16-16 on the season)
Romeo Sanabria– (1-for-4) HR, Run, 2 RBI
Kai Murphy– (1-for-1) Run
Wyatt Hoffman– (1-for-2)
Henry Baez– 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K (89 pitches- 53 strikes)
With San Antonio down 1-0 in the bottom of the 9th inning, Romeo Sanabria stepped up and went deep to walk-off against Frisco. The two-run shot with two outs came on the at-bat’s first pitch. Sanabria celebrated with flair as the ball sailed over the fence. Kai Murphy led off the inning with a triple, but was stranded by the next two hitters. The mood of the stadium soured until Sanabria’s blast to win it for the Missions. Wyatt Hoffman went 1-for-2 in the game and played center field for San Antonio.

The Missions got a great start from Henry Baez, though he was a little wild. The right-handed pitcher went five-plus innings, striking out six and allowing one run on four base hits and four walks. Baez has an ERA of 3.66 on the season, and it looks like he may be useful to the Padres eventually. Stephen Jones earned the win, getting the last four outs of the game without allowing a run. He lowered his ERA to 1.35 on the season.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 5-0 to South Bend) (18-14 on the season)
Rosman Verdugo– (1-for-4)
Jose Sanabria- (1-for-3) 2B
Brendan Durfee- (1-for-4)
Isaiah Lowe– 3.2 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K (84 pitches- 52 strikes)
Isaiah Lowe topped out at 97 mph with his fastball on the day and featured a biting slider. However, his control suffered, and Lowe coughed up four earned runs on three hits and a walk in the first inning. The stuff is still remarkably excellent, but he needs to harness his mechanics. Lowe is still very much a project, but you can see the upside in the 22-year-old. He earned the loss on Saturday, going 3.2 innings and allowing five earned runs in a 5-0 loss to the South Bend Cubs. Harry Gustin, Xavier Ruiz, and Luis German threw 4.1 scoreless innings in relief.
The bats did nothing for the TinCaps on the day as they only managed three hits in the game and two walks. Rosman Verdugo went 1-for-4 in the loss. Leodalis De Vries was 0-for-4 in the game with three strikeouts. The rookie phenom had a tough game but is still hitting .293 on the season with a .908 OPS.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 8-7 in 10 innings over San Jose) (14-18 on the season)
Kavares Tears– (2-for-3) 2 2B, Run, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Kasen Wells– (2-for-5) 2 Runs, SB, RBI
Ryan Jackson– (2-for-4) 2B, Run, BB
Luis Patino– 2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 ER, 1 K (37 pitches/22 strikes)
It took 10 innings, but the Lake Elsinore Storm won on Saturday on a Yendry Rojas sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th. Rojas went 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored as well. Kavares Tears continues to play well in Lake Elsinore as he went 2-for-3 in the game with two doubles. He has a .754 OPS so far this season. Kasen Wells also earned two hits in the game and stole a base for the Storm. Ryan Jackson doubled and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Lamar King Jr. homered for the third time on the season and drove in two runs in the game. King also scored the winning run in the 10th.
Luis Patino took the mound for the first time this season and looked rusty. The former Padres top prospect is working his arm back into shape. He threw two innings, allowing one run. This was an exciting moment for Patino as he works his way back to the major leagues. The right-handed pitcher’s velocity looked good. Braian Salazar earned the win as he threw 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball for Lake Elsinore. Will Varmette earned the save as he recorded the last two outs of the night.
ACL Padres (Lost 13-11 to ACL Texas) (1-5 on the season)
Yimy Tovar-(2-for-6) 2 2B, Run, RBI
Kai Roberts– (2-for-2) 2 Runs, RBI, BB
Victor Figueroa– (3-for-4) HR, 2B, 2 Runs, 3 RBI, BB
Bryan Hoeing– 0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, K
The ACL Padres had a lead late in the game, but eight runs allowed in the last two innings of the contest resulted in a 13-11 loss to Texas. Bryan Hoeing started the game for the Padres and lasted just four batters. He allowed a home run in the game and also recorded a strikeout. Hoeing will slowly build his pitch count as he works back from a sore throwing shoulder. This result is nothing to be too concerned about. Jesus Castro and Miguel Valdez coughed up eight runs (seven earned) in 2.2 innings of work. Igor Gil threw 3.2 innings after Hoeing, only allowing an unearned run.
Big first baseman Victor Figueroa has legit power, and the 6-foot-5 left-handed hitter went deep and recorded a double on Saturday. The 21-year-old will be promoted shortly and should be playing in Lake Elsinore fairly soon. He has a 1.736 OPS in a handful of at-bats with the ACL Padres. Kai Roberts was 2-for-2 in the game and scored two runs in the loss. The team struck out 11 times in the game, and that is an issue right now for the team from Arizona.

San Antonio- Braden Nett (0-3, 5.95 ERA)
