Padres minor league affiliates went 4-3 on Tuesday, with a slew of transactions also taking place.

Here is our daily recap of games played, along with the weekly roster roundup.

Roster Roundup:

Now, onto the game recaps!

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 6-5 vs Sugar Land) (39-37 on the season)

Luis Campusano – 2-for-4, Three-Run Home Run

Tim Locastro – 1-for-4, RBI Single, Sac Fly

Omar Cruz – 1.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 2 K (48 pitches – 23 strikes)

El Paso was down 5-1 after three innings, but a few big swings led to a five-run eighth inning that earned the Chihuahuas’ first win of the second half. Luis Campusano’s three-run home run was the biggest swing of the night, bringing the deficit to one. Tim Locastro drove in two runs in five plate appearances, hitting an RBI single and a sac fly. Forrest Wall drove in the go-ahead run on a line drive single in the eighth, his lone hit of the day. Brandon Lockridge was in the starting lineup and took the game’s first plate appearance, but he took a 93.9 mph fastball to the side of the helmet, prompting his exit from the game.

Omar Cruz started for the Chihuahuas, but did not have the command he is used to. Cruz only threw 23 of his 48 pitches for strikes and walked three batters. The rest of the Chihuahuas’ bullpen did a valiant job in 7.1 innings of relief: Jason Blanchard tossed 2.1 innings of one-run baseball, striking out two. Logan Gillaspie threw for the second time with El Paso, tossing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Gillaspie threw all seven of his pitches, and his velocity is back in early-season form. Raul Brito earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and Eduarniel Nunez continued his strong campaign by earning his first save as a Chihuahuas, hitting 99.3 mph on his fastball and getting whiffs on 66% of swings against his slider.

San Antonio Missions (Won 3-2 vs Midland) (40-30 on the season)

Moises Gomez – 1-for-2, RBI Walk

Jake Snider – 1-for-2, Single, Two Runs Scored

Braden Nett – 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K (100 pitches – 60 strikes)

Right-hander Braden Nett continued his summer surge, as the Missions’ starter went six innings of shutout baseball. Nett did not rack up the gaudy strikeout numbers in this game, striking out just four, but he got ahead of batters more often and limited the baserunners in a masterful way. This game marked the second time this season where Nett was matched up against Midland southpaw (and fellow surging prospect) Gage Jump, and Nett has earned the win in both games. Stephen Jones allowed two runs in the eighth inning, tossing 1.2 innings total, and Ethan Routzahn earned his second save of the season with 1.1 scoreless frames.

The Missions’ offense took advantage of six walks off the Midland starter to take a 2-0 lead after four. Devon Ortiz drove in a run in the first on a groundout, and Moises Gomez drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning to score the Missions’ second run. Gomez drew three walks in the game, and Francisco Acuna drew two. Jake Snider was 1-for-2 with a single and a walk, while making an impressive throw from center field to cut down a runner attempting to score in the fourth inning. Addison Kopack drew two walks in four plate appearances in his first game action since June 6.

I'd like this amount to

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 8-7 vs Great Lakes) (34-35 on the season)

Brandon Butterworth – 1-for-5, RBI Triple, Walk-off Walk

Leo De Vries – 0-for-2, Four Walks, RBI

Ian Koenig – 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 3 K (83 pitches – 48 strikes)

In a back-and-forth Midwest League barn-burner, Brandon Butterworth’s RBI walk-off left-hander Evan Shaw gave the TinCaps an 8-7 walk-off win. Walk was something the TinCaps did a lot of, as the team drew a near-unbelievable 16 walks in the game (a franchise record). Leo De Vries drew 25% of those walks, walking four times and scoring one run. Sean Barnett drove in two runs in the game, hitting an RBI single and being plunked with the bases loaded. Kai Roberts drew two walks out of the leadoff spot, with one coming with the bases loaded, and Brandon Butterworth walked the game off, fittingly, on a bases-loaded walk.

Ian Koenig was charged with five runs, but the right-hander went five innings, giving his team length. Koenig struck out three batters while walking just one. While the right-hander’s command has shown flashes of being a solid tool, he has also struggled with leaving pitches in very hittable spots, and for a pitcher without overpowering velocity, this can lead to issues. Fernando Sanchez threw two scoreless innings in relief of Koenig and was still out on the mound after the ‘Caps rallied. Unfortunately, Sanchez allowed a two-run, game-tying homer to the Loons’ Mike Sirota. Sanchez allowed a bloop base hit two batters later, prompting manager Lukas Rey to pull him from the game after 2.1 innings. A visibly frustrated Sanchez made way for Garrett Hawkins, who rattled off 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 5-3 vs Modesto) (30-40 on the season)

Lamar King Jr – 2-for-4, Two Doubles, RBI

Zach Evans – 2-for-4, Two Singles, Stolen Base, Run Scored

Kannon Kemp – 5.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 6 K (78 pitches – 51 strikes)

Right-hander Kannon Kemp worked into the sixth inning for the first time with Lake Elsinore, tossing 5.1 innings of three-run baseball. Kemp struck out six batters, matching his season high, and he did not issue a walk in the game. Considering the right-hander missed all of 2024 due to injury, his progress this season has been a remarkable story. Kleiber Olmedo came out of the bullpen and allowed two runs in 1.2 innings of work, and an inherited runner scored against him. Carson Swilling made his first Storm appearance since April 22, striking out one in a scoreless inning of work.

Lake Elsinore’s offense made plenty of noise on the basepaths, pulling off a successful double steal for a run and scoring another on a wild pitch. Lamar King Jr scored a run in the first inning on a wild pitch. Zach Evans would score the team’s second run on a double steal, with Kaden Hollow drawing the throw and successfully swiping second base. The heart of the Storm’s lineup had a strong day at the plate, with Kavares Tears and Victor Figueroa each having a base hit and a walk. Lamar King Jr drove in the Storm’s third run on a ninth-inning double to score Yimy Tovar, but with the tying run now on second base, Victor Figueroa struck out swinging to end the game.

ACL Padres (Lost 12-2 vs ACL Cubs) (10-29 on the season)

Ismael Javier – 3-for-4, Double, RBI

Jesmaylin Arias – 1-for-1, Single, Run Scored

Humberto Cruz – 2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 2 K

Padres starter Humberto Cruz lasted two innings against the ACL Cubs, allowing four runs on four hits. The young right-hander struck out two batters while walking two as well. Cruz appeared to struggle with his command, as he either missed to the glove side or right down the middle. Dariel Polanco threw three frames of one-run baseball in relief, striking out two batters. The right-hander has allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his last four outings, striking out seven in 9.1 innings in that span. Darlin Mendez allowed six runs and three home runs in 1.1 innings of relief. Manuel Davila allowed one run in 1.2 innings of relief, striking out two batters.

The ACL Padres saw Ismael Javier have a three-hit day for their team, doubling and driving in a run on a ninth-inning single. Javier’s RBI single scored Jesmaylin Arias, who had a pinch-hit single in relief of Albert Fabian. The rehabbing Fabian played his first game in left field this season and was 0-for-2 with a walk. Donte Grant had two hits, including a double, in four at-bats. Yoiber Ocopio had a single in four at-bats, scoring a run in the game.

DSL Padres – Intrasquad Action – DSL Padres Gold won 9-6 vs DSL Padres Brown

Padres Gold Notables

Fabian Alcantara – 1-for-2, Double, Three Walks

Kevin Tamburini – 2-for-5, Single, Three RBI

Carlos Alvarez – 3.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 4 K

Padres Gold starter Carlos Alvarez allowed two runs in 3.1 innings of work, with both runs being of the unearned variety. Edinson Hernandez, Jose Blanco, and Yoesmerli Beltre each threw a scoreless inning, and Jeferson Villabona earned his second save of the season. At the plate, Kevin Tamburini finished with two hits and three runs driven in. Jhojan Downer had an RBI single, and Deivid Coronil drove in a run on a sac fly. Jhoan De La Cruz scored a run in the game, and Moises Valdez drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk.

Padres Brown Notables

Yonaiker Hernandez – 2-for-5, Double, Four RBI

Frederick Saguita – 1-for-1, Two-RBI Double

Marco Eluscat – 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB. 5 K

Starter Marco Eluscat tossed four innings of shutout baseball, his second straight scoreless start. Eluscat struck out five batters while walking just two, and he is really putting himself on the prospect radar, albeit in a limited sample. Victor Pilar allowed four runs in one inning of work, and Wilfred Paca was charged with the loss, allowing four runs in 1.1 innings. Gensy Aquino, making his Padres debut, struck out four in two innings of work. At the plate, Yonaiker Hernandez continues to mash, hitting both a two-RBI double and a two-RBI single in the game. The 17-year-old Venezuela native has shown power potential when he hits the ball in the air, and his two hits came on line drives. Clay Winklaar scored two runs in the game, as did Juan Martinez. Frederick Saguita made the most of his lone at-bat, doubling to score two runs in the ninth inning.
