Padres affiliates finished Saturday with a 4-3 record overall.

With the games now played, let’s jump right into the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 7-2 vs Round Rock) (31-37 on the season)

Marcos Castanon – 2-for-3, Two Home Runs, Three RBI

Nick Pratto – 2-for-4, Home Run, Single, Three RBI

Jackson Wolf – 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 6 K (100 pitches – 59 strikes)

The Chihuahuas’ lineup powered up on Saturday, launching three home runs in a dominant win over Round Rock. Nick Pratto launched his second home run since signing with the Padres organization, driving in three runs in the game. Pratto is 4-for-13 since joining the Chihuahuas with three extra-base hits. Marcos Castanon hit two home runs in the game, his first multi-home run game as a Chihuahua. Castanon accomplished the feat twice last season, though both times were as a San Antonio Mission. Nick Schnell hit an RBI single in the win and has now reached base in 12 consecutive games. Carlos D. Rodriguez drew two walks, scoring two runs.

Jackson Wolf made the start for El Paso, pitching five innings of two-run baseball. The left-hander struck out six batters, his most since May 9. Wolf issued three walks, but generated 15 swings and misses. Six of 14 batted balls in play against him were hard-hit, which somehow did not include both run-scoring hits against him. Logan Gillaspie threw two scoreless innings in relief, striking out one. Gillaspie’s velocity was slightly lower than his season averages across the board, but he still managed to keep the Express off the board. Ty Adcock threw a scoreless eighth, and Alek Jacob pitched a scoreless ninth despite loading the bases.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 10-1 vs Frisco) (26-36 on the season)

Tirso Ornelas – 1-for-4, Home Run, RBI

Brendan Durfee – 1-for-3, Single

Ian Koenig – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K (86 pitches – 52 strikes)

For a second straight game, a strong performance was delivered by a Missions starting pitcher. Ian Koenig pitched five scoreless innings, striking out two batters. The right-hander continues to succeed by generating weak contact, as he generated four popouts and three outs via the ground ball. Koenig has found success as of late without the most swing-and-miss stuff, as he has an 8-to-4 walk-to-strikeout ratio over his last two starts. Harry Gustin picked up where Koenig left off, as he fired off two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Tirso Ornelas launched a solo home run in the first inning, his sixth of the campaign. Ornelas’ solo shot ultimately became the only run scored for the Missions all night. Brendan Durfee started behind the plate, going 1-for-3 with a single. Left fielder Albert Fabian went 1-for-4 with a single, one of only three Missions hits. Francisco Acuna and Ryan Jackson each drew a walk in the loss. Ethan Salas did not appear in the game.

Sadrac Franco faltered in the eighth, allowing two runs after a missed catch error from Luis Verdugo opened the floodgates. Neither run allowed by Franco was earned, but runs were runs. Francis Pena could not find the zone in the ninth, facing five batters and allowing all five to reach. Pena was chased by a bases-clearing triple, and the score went from 2-1 to 6-1 in the blink of an eye. Clark Candiotti entered in relief, but allowed two homers in one inning of work. The Missions’ bullpen was coming off two strong days before allowing 10 runs in four innings on Saturday.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 7-3 vs Dayton) (25-37 on the season)

Justin DeCriscio – 2-for-5, Home Run, RBI

Kavares Tears – 1-for-3, Home Run, Walk, RBI

Jamie Hitt – 3.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 2 K (66 pitches – 42 strikes)

TinCaps shortstop Justin DeCriscio’s leadoff home run put the team ahead in the first, but a four-run fourth by Dayton catapulted the Dragons to a home win. DeCriscio’s home run, his fourth since joining the TinCaps, was one of two for the team. Kavares Tears hit a solo homer of his own in the fourth, his sixth of the season. Three of his six home runs have come in his last seven games, and he is slugging .778 in June. Zach Evans singled, marking the sixth consecutive start in which he has reached base (his lone game without starting this month came as a defensive replacement). Kasen Wells reached base three times in the loss, and Alex McCoy went 1-for-4 with his 10th stolen base of the year.

Left-hander Jamie Hitt labored through a 34-pitch fourth inning where he recorded just one out, which prompted his departure from the game. The left-hander cruised through the first three frames on 32 pitches, allowing just one run on a solo homer. Despite this, the fourth inning saw three singles and two walks open the frame. Alfredo Alcantara gave the Dragons the lead with a two-run single, and another two-run single by Carlos Sanchez chased Hitt from the game. Igor Gil struck out three in 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Javier Chacon allowed two runs on three hits in two innings of relief, but picked up 10 swinging strikes in the process. Tucker Musgrove struck out two in a scoreless seven-pitch inning. Musgrove has now pitched four straight scoreless appearances, issuing just one walk while striking out eight.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 17-1 vs Ontario) (35-27 on the season)

Kerrington Cross – 2-for-4, Home Run, Double, Four RBI

Yoiber Ocopio – 4-for-5, Two Doubles, Three Runs Scored

Tyler Schmitt – 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 11 K (90 pitches – 58 strikes)

Seventeen runs by the offense and eleven strikeouts from their starting pitcher? Sounds like some good old-fashioned home cooking by the Storm! Storm starting pitcher Tyler Schmitt’s emergence continued on Saturday, as the reigning Padres Minor League Pitcher of the Month set a new career-best mark in strikeouts against the Ontario lineup. Schmitt struck out eleven batters while walking just one, leading all Single-A pitchers in the swing and miss department with 17. The former Illinois right-hander has struck out 26.9% of batters faced this season, despite a 12.7% walk rate. Daichi Moriki pitched two scoreless innings in relief, despite not recording a strikeout. Five of six outs by Moriki came via the groundball. Cal Riehl worked one inning of one-run baseball in the ninth, striking out one.

Kerrington Cross drove in four runs in the blowout win. Cross was one of two Storm hitters to homer in the win, with his two-run home run giving the Storm a 2-0 lead after two batters. Truitt Madonna had three hits, including a double, driving in three runs. Madonna has reached base safely in his past six games, and his seven RBI in June have all come in his last two. Yoiber Ocopio hit two doubles as part of a four-hit game, the first such game of his career. Ryan Wideman reached base four times and stole two bases in the game. The Padres’ 2025 third-rounder now leads the minor leagues in stolen bases with 42. Conner Westenburg went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, and a stolen base. George Bilecki hit a two-run home run in the game, driving in another run with a sacrifice fly.

Lan-Hong Su made his fifth appearance with the ACL Padres, pitching three innings of one-run baseball. Su struck out one, but picked up six of nine outs via the groundball. The right-hander struck out just one in this start, but has a 25.9% strikeout rate this season. Landry Jurecka threw three innings in relief, striking out two. Bernard Jose struck out one in a scoreless seventh, earning the win. Luis De Leon drove home two runs, including the game-winner. De Leon doubled in the Padres’ first run in the sixth inning, scoring Jesmaylin Arias. Cardell Thibodeaux reached base four times in the win, scoring the tying run.
