Jackson Wolf threw five innings of one-run baseball against the Rainiers, striking out nine batters in his outing. Wolf’s arsenal generated whiffs on 19 of 38 swings against, for a season-high 50% whiff rate. While his four-seamer was not in the zone half the time, it allowed his secondaries to generate stellar chase rates. It was a bounce-back in all the best ways for the southpaw. Raul Brito threw a scoreless sixth, and Harold Chirino allowed two runs in the seventh inning. Ron Marinaccio threw 1.1 scoreless to bridge the team to the ninth, where Eduarniel Nunez closed out the win.

San Antonio Missions (Won 2-0 vs Amarillo) (50-40 on the season)
Romeo Sanabria – 3-for-4, Three Singles, RBI
Francisco Acuna – 2-for-4, Double, Two Runs Scored
Jagger Haynes – 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K (68 pitches – 39 strikes)

It was Haynes’ best start since June 21, and his first scoreless start since June 10. Ethan Routzahn closed out the game with a scoreless ninth, striking out one batter in the frame.

In other Missions news, catcher Ethan Salas (currently on the mend from a stress reaction in his lower back) is healing slower than anticipated, per Kyle Glaser of Friar Territory. There is not yet a timetable for his return, although he has been catching and tracking pitches.
Prospect news: Padres C Ethan Salas’ stress fracture in his back is healing more slowly than initially hoped and he has no set timeline to return, per team officials. No setbacks, just slow healing. He’s catching off the machine and working out, but no rotational movements.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 7-5 vs Lake County) (44-45 on the season)
Leo De Vries – 2-for-4, Two-Run Home Run
Ryan Jackson – 1-for-2, RBI Double, Two Walks
Luis Gutierrez – 4.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 6 K (72 pitches – 49 strikes)
Fort Wayne took a 5-2 lead after four and a half, but five unanswered runs led to a TinCaps loss. Luis Gutierrez got the nod for Fort Wayne, and pitched into the fifth inning. Gutierrez struck out six batters and walked only two, continuing to show strong command with his new team. The left-handed did allow six hits in his outing, including one home run in the game. Bodi Rascon entered in relief and allowed the tying run to score in 1.2 innings of relief. Sean Barnett entered in a tie game, but hit a batter and the next batter reached on catcher’s interference. After a flyout, Barnett uncorked a wild pitch that got past Victor Duarte, allowing the go-ahead run to score. Nick Wissman allowed one run in the ninth, extending the Captains’ lead.

The TinCaps’ offense pushed across five runs in the middle innings. Three fourth-inning walks loaded the bases with no outs, and with two outs, Kai Roberts singled to score two runs and tie the game. The next inning saw the TinCaps take the lead, Facing former Storm teammate Dwayne Matos, Leo De Vries launched a two-run home run to right-center field, giving Fort Wayne a 4-2 lead. Two batters later, Ryan Jackson turned on a pitch down the middle and sent it to right field to score Braedon Karpathios. Jackson drew two walks in the game, and Karpathios drew three. De Vries scored two runs in the game, and played a steady shortstop in the loss.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 11-2 vs Rancho Cucamonga) (41-49 on the season)
Lamar King Jr – 4-for-5, RBI Single, Two Doubles
Zach Evans – 2-for-3, Two Doubles
Abraham Parra – 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 4 K (71 pitches – 46 strikes)
Abraham Parra cruised through three innings before allowing five runs in the fourth inning. A pair of fielding errors from Chase Valentine in left field did not help the right-hander escape a long inning, Parra struck out four batters while walking only one, so his command has not been the issue. The 19-year old has still been showing steady improvement in a consistent starting role. Braian Salazar and Igor Gil allowed six runs in the seventh inning, with each pitcher allowing three runs. Vicarte Domingo struck out three in 1.1 innings, and Kleiber Olmedo pitched a scoreless ninth.
Lamar King Jr was the story of the game at the dish, hitting two doubles and two singles while driving in a run. King Jr has been hitting very well since June, and is now hitting .279 with a .380 on-base percentage in July. Zach Evans had two doubles while playing solid defense at second base. Evans was at second due to the presence of Kale Fountain at third base; Fountain doubled and drove in a run on a groundout in the game. Victor Figueroa had a single and a run scored in the loss.
