Padres affiliates went 2-1 on Thursday.

Let’s jump right into the games’ events. 

El Paso Chihuahuas – Off Day

El Paso made a roster move ahead of an upcoming series. Outfielder Nick Schnell was released, per the team’s transaction log. Schnell, 26, posted an 85 wRC+ in 59 games with the Chihuahuas. 

San Antonio Missions – Off Day

The Missions also made a trio of roster moves. Right-hander Matthew Watson was promoted to the Missions, while Omar Cruz was placed on the full-season injured list. Right-hander Victor Lizarraga was reassigned to the Arizona Complex League. The 22-year old walked 13 over his last three starts before the reassignment. 

Fort Wayne TinCaps – Off Day

The TinCaps return to action on Friday against Lansing. The team will be receiving a boost to their relief corps, as right-handers Carlos Medina and Luis German have been assigned to the TinCaps out of the All-Star break. 

Lake Elsinore Storm – Off Day

Left-hander Kruz Schoolcraft will start the Storm’s first game out of the break on Friday night in Ontario. The team will likely make a roster move to fill Carlos Medina’s spot on the roster. The Storm project to have Lan-Hong Su and Luis Maracara start the two weekend games in Ontario before returning home to face Visalia. If we want to read between the lines, it appears that Tyler Schmitt will take Medina’s spot in the rotation Wednesday against Visalia. 

ACL Padres (Won 6-5 vs ACL Mariners) (30-24 on the season)

Jhoan De La Cruz – 1-for-2, Two-Run Home Run

Ty Harvey – 1-for-3, Home Run, RBI

Adler Cecil – 3.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R (3 ER), 3 BB, 6 K

A pair of home runs helped pave the way for a Padres win in the desert. Ty Harvey returned to action, starting his rehab assignment with a solo home run. Harvey played five innings in the field, allowing two stolen bases but helping navigate starter Adler Cecil through his outing. Jhoan De La Cruz broke through in the power department, hitting his second home run of the season. De La Cruz’s two-run home run put the Padres within one, and he drove in the go-ahead run on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. Eddson Martinez hit a sac fly to give the Padres some insurance, which proved to be vital. Luis De Leon went 1-for-1 with two walks, scoring two runs. 

Left-hander Adler Cecil pitched into the fourth inning, allowing four runs on four hits. Only three of the four runs allowed by the southpaw were earned, and Cecil struck out six. Cecil was tagged for two home runs in the game, and has allowed five home runs in 36.1 innings this season. Jeronimo Palmeros allowed one run in 1.1 innings of relief, but earned the win when the Padres rallied for four runs in the fifth inning. Julio Dilone made his first appearance with the ACL Padres, striking out four batters in two innings to earn the save. 

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 9-2 vs DSL Orioles Black) (24-9 on the season)

Endy Rios – 3-for-4, Double, Two Singles

Dayquer Alfonzo – 2-for-4, Double, Run Scored

Yunny Tovar – 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K

Yunny Tovar threw four innings of three-run baseball, striking out one. The left-hander picked up two groundouts, with four outs coming on fly balls. The Padres Gold’s bullpen kept the team in it for a while, as Wilfred Paca pitched three innings of two-run baseball. Jose Blanco allowed five runs in one-third of an inning, with two bequeathed runners scoring against Albieris Polanco. Endy Rios had three hits in four at-bats, but did not score a run. Dayquer Alfonzo had two hits, including a double, and scored one of two Padres runs. Darian Castillo hit two singles, scoring a run. Timothy Mogen hit two singles in the loss, swiping his 14th base of the season. 

DSL Padres Brown (Won 13-8 vs DSL Royals Ventura) (7-25 on the season)

Osmy Osorio – 2-for-4, Double, Three RBI

Jhostin Fuentes – 2-for-4, Double, Two RBI

Yohn Melendez – 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Right-hander Yohn Melendez made his second career start, pitching five innings of three-run baseball. Though he only struck out one, Melendez picked up seven outs via the ground ball. Rafael Torres walked four in two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs. Valentin Perez picked up two outs, including his first pro strikeout, allowing two runs in his outing. Jesus Heredia picked up the final two outs of the game. Osmy Osorio drove in three runs on a pair of hits, hitting a double in the win. Jhostin Fuentes hit his first double of the season, driving in a pair of runs as well. Luis Rodriguez hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, giving the Padres a 6-3 lead. Sebastian Maldonado hit a two-run double in the game, and Jeanfranco Fernandez hit an RBI double as well. The Padres went 6-for-14 with runners in scoring position in the win.
