ACL Padres (Won 8-2 vs ACL Mariners) (29-24 on the season)

Jesmaylin Arias – 3-for-5, Two Doubles, Two RBI

Santiago Vargas – 1-for-5, Three-Run Home Run

Florangel Vasquez – 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Right-hander Florangel Vasquez struck out three in 2.2 innings while the Padres’ offense pulled away late to win in commanding fashion. Vasquez allowed just one hit in 2.2 innings, not issuing a walk. Right-hander Jose Leclerc was back on the mound, but allowed a two-run home run in 1.1 innings of relief. Leclerc struck out two batters. David Morgan, who was assigned to the ACL on rehab assignment today, pitched one-third of an inning, allowing two walks and a hit. Morgan picked up his lone out via the strikeout. Dalvi Nunez pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out one. Dariel Polanco struck out three in two scoreless frames, and Ryan Reed worked a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts, stranding three baserunners. 

Jesmaylin Arias picked up three hits in the win, with two doubles and two runs batted in. Arias has been susceptible to the strikeout, but has put the ball in play with authority when he makes contact. Eddson Martinez had two hits out of the leadoff spot, also driving in two runs for the Padres. Martinez, despite being just 5-foot-5, has made this whole Rookie ball level look easy, hitting .417/.531/.615 in 96 at-bats this season. Santiago Vargas launched a three-run home run in the sixth inning, a swing that put the Padres firmly in the driver’s seat. 

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 6-2 vs DSL Royals Ventura) (24-8 on the season)

Dayquer Alfonzo – 3-for-4, Two Doubles, Two RBI

Timothy Mogen – 1-for-3, Single

Carlos Alvarez – 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 3 K

Left-hander Carlos Alvarez struck out three in four-plus innings, allowing six hits. The Padres Gold’s starter picked up one pickoff as well, but made a pair of pickoff errors. One such error was consequential, as it saw the go-ahead run move to second before scoring in the second. Alvarez pitched into the fifth inning, allowing an RBI single before being relieved by Guillermo Romero. Romero allowed the inherited runner to score, plus a run of his own in one inning of work, walking two. Diego Roldan allowed two runs in 1.2 innings, with Jose Perez recording the final out of the inning. Dayquer Alfonzo drove in both Padres runs, finishing the game with three hits. Interestingly, it wasn’t either of Alfonzo’s doubles that produced a run; instead, it was his single in the fifth inning, which scored Darian Castillo and Joniel Hernandez. Timothy Mogen and Cristian Benavides each singled in the loss. 

DSL Padres Brown – Off Day

The DSL Padres Brown made one roster move on Wednesday, sending shortstop Endy Rios to the Padres Gold. With Julio Dilone transferred to the ACL, the Padres Gold needed to fill a roster spot, and the 19-year-old Rios posted a .306 batting average and .396 OBP in 25 games leading up to the promotion.
