Padres minor league affiliates went 2-1 on Wednesday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 14-1 vs Round Rock) (7-10 on the season)

Rodolfo Duran – 2-for-4, Home Run, Five RBI

Carlos Rodriguez – 3-for-5, Double, Three RBI

Jackson Wolf – 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K (43 pitches – 28 strikes)

El Paso’s offense dismantled a beleaguered Round Rock pitching staff, leading 10-0 after four innings and cruising to a 14-1 win. Rodolfo Duran got the scoring started with a three-run home run in the second inning. Keep his name in mind as you read this section. Duran’s third homer of the year kicked off a five-run inning that included a sacrifice fly by Carlos Rodriguez and an RBI single by Sung-Mun Song. Rodriguez added two more in the third inning with a two-run single against Express reliever Aidan Anderson. Pablo Reyes’ third-inning home run scored the eighth run of the game, and Jose Miranda tripled to deep center field to score Rodolfo Duran all the way from first base. A wild pitch from former Padre Mason Thompson scored Miranda, and El Paso was into double digits.

Left-hander Jackson Wolf finally stepped into the rotation, as scheduled; Matt Waldron was over 700 miles away in San Diego. Wolf pitched three innings, striking out five of 10 batters faced. The left-hander generated five whiffs on 16 swings for a 31% whiff rate, and he did not allow a barrel on five balls in play. Wolf will likely get stretched out in terms of pitch count if he is to remain in the rotation going forward. Logan Gillaspie fired off three innings of relief with four strikeouts, leading the El Paso staff in the swing-and-miss department. Gillaspie notched an absurd 40% whiff rate, throwing six different pitch types to keep the Express lineup sidetracked. Eli Villalobos maxed out at 97.7 mph while tossing two scoreless innings. Garrett Hawkins threw the ninth inning, allowing one run on two walks and a hit. Hawkins topped out at 96.3 mph while getting whiffs on 36% of swings. His fastball did not yield a ball in play, averaging 19 inches of iVB with 5 inches of horizontal break.

In other Chihuahuas news, Rodolfo Duran was pulled from the game in the ninth inning. With Padres catcher Freddy Fermin having been pulled from the Major League game due to a foul ball off the mask, Duran could be on his way to San Diego to back up his 2025 teammate, Luis Campusano.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 9-2 vs Midland) (3-8 on the season)

Romeo Sanabria – 1-for-4, RBI Double

Tirso Ornelas – 2-for-4, Two Singles, Run Scored

Victor Lizarraga – 1.1 IP, 6 H, 8 R (6 ER), 0 BB, 2 K (51 pitches – 28 strikes)

Trailing 9-2 after two innings is never a good way to start a baseball game, but that was the situation the Missions stared down on Wednesday. San Antonio starter Victor Lizarraga allowed one run in the first and failed to escape the second inning, allowing six hits in his outing. Lizarraga allowed three hits and a wild pitch to open the second inning, and one out later, a triple, single, and catcher’s interference call chased the right-hander from the game. Reliever Fernando Sanchez was summoned from the bullpen, but allowed back-to-back doubles,s and Midland then led 9-0. Sanchez pitched 3.2 innings of long relief, striking out six batters and leading the Missions’ pitching staff in swing-and-misses induced with 10. Francis Pena threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Harry Gustin racked up eight swings and misses on 13 swings in a scoreless eighth inning. While Gustin does not possess overwhelming velocity, his stuff sequences very effectively, leading to plenty of swing and miss.

Romeo Sanabria drove in the Missions’ first run with a fifth-inning RBI double, scoring Braedon Karpathios. Tirso Ornelas had a two-hit game, scoring a run, and is now hitting .267 with a .713 OPS in eight games. Every member of the Missions’ starting lineup picked up a hit in the ballgame, with Francisco Acuna hitting the team’s only other double of the game. San Antonio picked up four hits against first-rounder Jamie Arnold, but went 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position in the loss.

Fort Wayne TinCaps – Postponed vs Lake County

The TinCaps’ regularly scheduled game against the Lake County Captains was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday, April 17. Tucker Musgrove was set to start for Fort Wayne and will make his season debut this week.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 9-8 in 10 innings vs Stockton) (4-7 on the season)

Kale Fountain – 2-for-5, Double, Two RBI

Bradley Frye – 1-for-4, Double, Run Scored

Jesus A. Castro – 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K (78 pitches – 44 strikes)

Carlos Medina – 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K (44 pitches – 32 strikes)

Lake Elsinore played yet another extra-inning affair, fighting hard but falling 9-8 in 10 innings. Starter Jesus A. Castro pitched well, allowing two runs in four innings. Castro picked up seven of 12 outs via the ground ball, striking out three batters in the process. The young right-hander has made a strong slate of starts so far in his first season stateside and is showing maturity and poise for an arm of his age. Left-hander Joseph Herrera allowed five baserunners in one inning of relief, failing to pick up a strikeout. Herrera was relieved by Carlos Medina, who allowed one inherited runner to score, and the game was tied. Medina was impressive in his 3.2 innings of relief, striking out six of 12 batters faced, and now has 11 strikeouts in 9.1 innings of relief with a 2.89 ERA.

At the dish, the Storm picked up six more stolen bases, using their baserunning chaos to manufacture runs. Justin DeCriscio scored their first run on a fielder’s choice by Yoiber Ocopio. Ocopio reached base and ultimately scored on a double steal. Conner Westenburg stole two bases in the inning, scoring on a wild pitch. Ryan Wideman then reached base, stealing second and third before a throwing error on the second steal allowed him to score. Bradley Frye scored in the third inning on a double by Kale Fountain, and Jose Verdugo’s RBI groundout scored Fountain to extend the lead to 6-1. The Storm were held off the board until the 10th, when Conner Westenburg scored on a balk. Truitt Madonna then doubled and scored on a single by Kale Fountain. The Storm were set for more, but Kale Fountain was thrown out attempting the Storm’s seventh steal of the game.

Nick Falter picked up the final out of the ninth for the Storm and was back out for the 10th, but allowed a triple and a wild pitch to tie the game at eight. Breyson Guedez worked a walk against Falter, and pinch-runner Bobby Blandford stole second base. On a 2-1 pitch, Daniel Bucciero singled to right field to score the winning run.
