Padres minor league affiliates went 4-1 on Friday night.
Here is our daily recap of games played.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 17-2 vs Tacoma) (18-19 on the season)
Jase Bowen – 3-for-4, Two Home Runs, Two RBI
Carlos D. Rodriguez – 2-for-4, Two Singles

Sean Boyle – 3.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 3 K (83 pitches – 54 strikes)
El Paso’s Friday night affair is one that the team would like to move on from and fast. The pitching staff was knocked around for 17 runs by the Rainiers, with starter Sean Boyle chased in the fourth inning. Boyle allowed six runs on seven hits to Tacoma, striking out just three batters. Boyle surrendered three runs over the first two innings, tossing a scoreless third inning. The Rainiers loaded the bases against him with one out in the third, which chased the right-hander from the game. Miguel Cienfuegos entered with the bases loaded, but two straight hits saw all inherited runners score. A sacrifice fly scored the fourth run of the frame. Colt Emerson and Brian O’Keefe took Cienfuegos deep over the next two innings, but the left-hander pitched 2.2 innings to save the bullpen. Misael Tamarez allowed two runs in 1.1 innings, and Justin Yeager allowed six runs in 1.1 innings of work, including a grand slam.
Jase Bowen hit two home runs in the ballgame for El Paso. Both home runs went very high and very far; Bowen’s first home run cleared the stadium confines in left-center field, traveling 462 feet. Bowen’s second home run did not have a posted distance, but did go beyond the batter’s eye in center field. Carlos D. Rodriguez had two singles in the game, and Nick Solak had a single of his own. Nick Schnell hit a single and drew a walk, and his season OPS now sits at .878.
Jase Bowen, are you serious? ?

San Antonio Missions (Won 8-4 vs Midland) (9-22 on the season)
Ethan Salas – 3-for-5, Double, RBI
Tirso Ornelas – 3-for-4, Two Doubles, RBI
Ian Koenig – 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R (3 ER), 0 BB, 5 K (84 pitches – 55 strikes)
Facing left-hander Jamie Arnold for a second time this season, San Antonio went to work, tagging the opposing starter for 12 hits. Ethan Salas racked up three hits in the game, including an opposite-field double. One of Salas’ base hits clocked in at 106 mph, and the Padres No. 1 prospect keeps flashing gobs of potential. Tirso Ornelas hit two doubles against the Midland southpaw, driving in a run. Ornelas also finished with three hits, one of two Missions to do so. Francisco Acuna drove in two runs on a double, and Kai Roberts had two singles and an RBI. Ryan Jackson had two singles and an RBI, scoring a run as well. Jackson now has a five-game on-base streak, and has a .419 on-base percentage in May so far. Leandro Cedeno had two hits, including a double, and Braedon Karpathios hit an RBI single. Despite going 8-for-20 with runners in scoring position, the team left 14 runners on base.

Ian Koenig pitched a quality start, allowing three earned runs in six innings of work. Koenig did not issue a walk, striking out five batters. Koenig generated 11 swings-and-misses in the game, picking up nine of 18 outs recorded via the ground ball. The San Jose native earned his first Double-A win thanks to this effort. Andrew Moore and his scalding-hot fastball struck out five batters in two innings of work, with the lone baserunner against him coming via the walk. Michael Flynn pitched a scoreless ninth to seal a Friday night win.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 1-0 vs Beloit) (15-16 on the season)
Zach Evans – 2-for-4, Two Singles, Stolen Base, Run Scored
Lamar King Jr – 1-for-3, Double, Walk
Kash Mayfield – 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K (73 pitches – 41 strikes)
While the TinCaps’ special guest of the evening, WWE Hall of Famer Ted DeBiase, would say “everybody’s got a price”, the price of a win turned out to be just one run. On Pro Wrestling Night at Parkview Field, it was only fitting that Kash Mayfield pitched a dominant outing. Mayfield pitched five shutout innings, allowing one hit and no runs. While the left-hander struck out just three batters, he also worked quickly and kept the Beloit lineup on their toes. Beloit’s only hit against Mayfield was a double by former Padre farmhand Dillon Head. Mayfield induced five ground ball outs, including an inning-ending double play in the fifth inning, to end his night.

Clark Candiotti tagged in for Mayfield in the sixth and fired two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Candiotti got eight swings and misses on 15 swings for a 53.3% whiff rate in the outing and has a 2.57 ERA across his last four outings. CJ Widger pitched a scoreless eighth inning, recording three outs on the ground. Tucker Musgrove entered for a second time this series, working around four baserunners in the ninth to pitch a scoreless inning, sealing the save with a sharp slider for strike three.

The TinCaps’ lineup brought the smackdown when they needed it, tallying seven hits against a strong Beloit staff. Lamar King Jr and Jonathan Vastine each had one double in the game, with King Jr also reaching base on a walk. Kavares Tears finished with two hits in the game as well, and is hitting .385 in May. Zach Evans hit two singles in the game, but his seventh-inning steal of home was the most notable part of Evans’ day. The former Lenoir-Rhyne infielder took home on a changeup from left-hander Nate Payne, reaching for the plate with the grace of Mysterio to score the first and only run of the game. Evans’ steal in the fifth gave a stunner to the Sky Carp, as it was just Evans’ second steal of the season. Jake Cunningham drew two walks in the game, and the TinCaps’ 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position did not matter in the end.
How about adding in a steal of home??
Zach Evans has been responsible for 7 of the @TinCaps‘ 11 runs this week

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 4-1 vs Inland Empire) (18-13 on the season)
Ryan Wideman – 3-for-4, Double, Single, Three RBI, Three Stolen Bases
Qrey Lott – 2-for-4, Two Singles, Two Runs Scored
Kruz Schoolcraft – 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 2 K (67 pitches – 37 strikes)
Left-hander Kruz Schoolcraft fired off his best start of the young season, pitching four innings of one-run baseball. The left-hander only allowed one unearned run on three hits, striking out two batters. Schoolcraft pitched well in his seventh career start, generating seven whiffs and a double play in the fourth inning. The Padres’ No. 2 prospect now has a 3.68 ERA in May, with seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings. Rordy Mejia pitched two innings in relief, allowing no runs and navigating five baserunners. While Mejia has struggled with walks this season, he has held batters to a .227 average against. Vicarte Domingo struck out five in two innings of relief, and Will Koger struck out two in a scoreless ninth, picking up his second save.
Ryan Wideman drove in three runs for the Storm on Friday; his fifth-inning double gave the team a 3-1 lead. Wideman finished the game with three base hits and three stolen bases, and in the words of the Inland Empire broadcast, continued to “play with his hair on fire”. Qrey Lott hit two singles in the game, scoring two runs. Bradley Frye had three singles, scoring Lott in the third inning for the first run of the game. Lott came around to score again on Wideman’s eighth-inning single. Justin DeCriscio hit a double and scored a run, and Jorge Quintana went 1-for-4 with a double in the win.
ACL Padres (Won 7-5 vs ACL Royals) (3-2 on the season)
Jhoan De La Cruz – 1-for-4, Two-Run Home Run
Yimy Tovar – 2-for-4, Go-Ahead Two-Run Double
Michael Salina – 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Michael Salina made his much-anticipated pro debut, striking out two of five batters faced. Clearly, on a pitch count, the right-hander showed enough to draw intrigue as he returned to the mound coming off Tommy John surgery. Dalvi Nunez allowed both inherited runners to score and allowed another run of his own in 0.1 innings. Adler Cecil struck out three in two innings and has now fanned eight in four innings. Dariel Polanco struck out five in three innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Bernard Jose pitched two scoreless innings, striking out five, and Jordan Valenzuela pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
Jhoan De La Cruz hit his first stateside home run in the third inning, tying the game at three. Jesmaylin Arias drove in a run on a double in the first inning, his first of the year. Ty Harvey went 1-for-4 with a single, scoring a run as the DH. Yimy Tovar had two hits, both for extra bases. Tovar hit a triple early in the game, but his two-run double in the seventh was the game-deciding hit.
