San Diego Wave’s offensive struggles continue in 0-0 draw against Seattle

The San Diego Wave visited the Seattle Reign at Lumen Field for a game in the 2025 NWSL regular season this Friday, August 29.
San Diego was heading into this match having won only one of its last five league games.
The Wave had only scored three goals in these past five games, making for a very lackluster run of form. Jonas Eidevall made three changes to his lineup from the game against Racing Louisville, as Makenzy Doniak, Laurina Fazer, and Trinity Armstrong came on for Perle Morroni, Savannah McCaskill, and Adriana Leon.
Eidevall was clearly trying to switch things up with the recent struggles in the attacking front. The Wave controlled possession heavily throughout the match, particularly in the first half, with 69 percent of the sphere.
The game, in its entirety, was a fairly slow one in general, and neither team produced much danger in the opening 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan was crucial in this encounter and was tested on a pair of occasions in the first half.
In the opening minutes, Madison Curry launched a strike from way beyond the penalty area that Sheridan was able to get to. San Diego was clearly the better team in the second half and really pressed Seattle’s backline.

One of the clearest opportunities in the match came in the 68th minute. Hanna Lundqvist sent in a cross to Gia Corley, who shot on target, but was denied by Seattle’s shot-stopper Claudia Dickey.
A few minutes later, Makenzy Doniak was denied by Claudia Dickey, who stopped a clear shot on goal. The Wave were not clinical in the final third, which ultimately cost the team some points from this match.
San Diego has now scored just three goals in the last six games and urgently need to get back on track. The Wave will host consecutive home games at Snapdragon Stadium against Houston and Gotham.
