Padres affiliates went 2-2 on Wednesday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 14-2 vs Round Rock) (49-72 on the season)

Bryce Johnson – 1-for-4, Home Run, RBI
Samad Taylor – 1-for-4, Home Run, RBI

Sean Boyle – 4.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K (82 pitches – 57 strikes)

El Paso’s pitching staff was knocked around for 20 hits in a loss to Round Rock on Wednesday afternoon. Sean Boyle pitched 4.2 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. The right-hander allowed two home runs, both coming with runners on base. Though Boyle struck out four, he allowed too much hard contact for success; seven of 17 batted ball events registered exit velocity over 95 mph. Logan Gillaspie allowed three runs in 2.1 innings, and his velocity was down between 1.6 and 3.9 mph depending on the pitch. Jose Leclerc made his first El Paso relief appearance, allowing three runs on five hits in one inning. Leclerc posted a paltry 13% whiff rate on 15 swings, and his once-potent fastball averaged 93.3 mph (which was down 0.9 mph from his 2025 outings as an Athletic). J.P. France threw one inning, allowing two runs on three hits. No pitch by an El Paso pitcher registered a velocity over 94.9 mph.

Bryce Johnson and Samad Taylor were responsible for all the scoring El Paso did in the contest. Johnson hit his first home run of the season off left-hander Dalton Pence to lead off the game, and Samad Taylor went back-to-back with Johnson to put El Paso up 2-0. Will Wagner had two of the Chihuahuas’ remaining five hits, and Marcos Castanon also chipped in with his own two-hit game. Castanon and Wagner each hit a double, and Carlos D. Rodriguez hit a single while adding an outfield assist defensively. El Paso went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, stranding six in the loss.

San Antonio Missions (Won 3-2 vs Northwest Arkansas) (53-63 on the season)

Albert Fabian – 3-for-5, Double, RBI

Romeo Sanabria – 2-for-3, Two Singles, Walk, RBI

Luis Gutierrez – 2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K (54 pitches – 32 strikes)

Eric Yost – 6.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K (89 pitches – 58 strikes)

San Antonio climbed to within three games of a playoff spot with a 3-2 win over Northwest Arkansas. The Missions saw the return of Luis Gutierrez, who pitched 2.2 innings of two-run baseball in his first Double-A start since April 18. The left-hander got to shake off some of the proverbial rust, striking out three while walking just one. Gutierrez got three of eight outs on the ground, and even picked off a runner. If the Missions intend to make a playoff run this season, getting Gutierrez back helps their efforts. Eric Yost made quite an impact in the game as well. San Antonio’s projected starter pitched in relief, throwing 6.1 innings of shutout baseball. Yost allowed just four hits (with two from former Padre Jorge Alfaro) while striking out six batters. 13 of 19 outs recorded by the right-hander were either on the ground or strikeouts. Yost also generated 12 swings and misses from the Naturals, and the 23-year old has now thrown five or more innings in his last five games.

The Missions offense did just enough to take a lead, and the pitching held it down. Despite leaving Alex McCoy and Albert Fabian on base in the first inning, the Missions got on the run column in the second inning. Justin DeCriscio led off the frame with an infield single, stole second, and reached third on a throwing error by Naturals backstop Canyon Brown. Wyatt Hoffman walked and Anthony Vilar then dropped a sac bunt which scored DeCriscio. The Missions struck again in the fifth, as with two on and one out, Romeo Sanabria singled on a ground ball up the middle to tie the game. The lead swung in the Missions’ favor in the sixth. Kai Roberts walked with one out, stole his 35th base of the season, and scored on a single by Albert Fabian, his 3rd hit of the game. Fabian has 10 hits in his last four games, and is hitting .382 with a .937 OPS in 55 at-bats this month.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 6-5 vs Great Lakes) (49-65 on the season)

Kerrington Cross – 4-for-4, Four Singles, RBI

Conner Westenburg – 2-for-4, Triple, Two RBI

Winyer Chourio – 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K (69 pitches – 41 strikes)

If you didn’t have the context of the team, this win would have read an early-2026 Lake Elsinore recap. Winyer Chourio fired three scoreless innings as the TinCaps snagged a tightly-contested win over the Great Lakes Loons. Chourio struck out three while walking three over three innings. The right-hander pitched on four days’ rest for the first time this season, averaging 23 pitches per inning. Carlos Medina came on in relief, throwing three innings of five-run baseball. Medina allowed all five runs in the fourth inning, but threw two scoreless frames after that to keep the game tied. Even without his A-game, Medina contained the potent Loons offense in the middle innings after the five-spot. Jeferson Villabona threw a scoreless seventh and eighth, putting himself in position for the win. Villabona had thrown 19 pitches through two innings, so TinCaps manager Jonathan Matthews sent him back out for the ninth. Villabona saw a one-out baserunner reach via error before allowing a single to Emil Morales. An infield fly got the second out before Villabona plunked Jaron Elkins with an 0-2 pitch. With the bases loaded, Villabona got Eduardo Guerrero to ground a ball to third. Kerrington Cross made a diving stop, and used every ounce of his arm to throw a one-hopper to Yoiber Ocopio, who made the scoop to seal the win.

The TinCaps offense feasted in the second inning against Loons starter Sterling Patick. Kerrington Cross and Lamar King Jr reached base safely and stole their way into scoring position before Yoiber Ocopio fisted a slider onto the grass between the mound and shortstop to score Cross. Yimy Tovar then singled to score King Jr, with Dylan Grego’ sac bunt moving two runners into scoring position. Conner Westenburg then barreled a low-and-away fastball into right-center field, scoring both runners with a two-run triple. Westenburg scored on a groundout to the right side by Kasen Wells, giving the Missions a 2026 Storm-like five-run inning. The TinCaps took a decisive lead come the seventh inning, as a walk to Bradley Frye and a single by Robbie Lavey put two on with no outs. Kerrington Cross then lined his fourth single of the game to right field, scoring Frye and giving the TinCaps a 6-5 lead. Fort Wayne went 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position in the win.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 11-1 vs San Jose) (61-55 on the season)

Jesmaylin Arias – 1-for-3, Double, Run Scored

Elliot Lascelles – 1-for-3, Double, Walk

Cameron Nohos – 3.1 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 2 BB, 6 K (79 pitches – 49 strikes)

Right-hander Cameron Nohos allowed eight runs in 3.1 innings, with the Giants teeing off on three home runs against the Storm starter. Nohos allowed five extra-base hits in the loss, as while he threw 49 of 79 pitches for strikes, too many of his offerings were landing in the heart of the strike zone. Even with his struggles, the right-hander struck out six batters, generating 16 swings and misses and 29 swinging strikes total. Florangel Vasquez threw 2.2 innings of one-run baseball in relief, not recording a strikeout. Michael Salina, who was activated off the injured list prior to the game, allowed two runs in one inning of relief, striking out one. Ryan Reed threw two scoreless innings at the tail end of the contest, striking out three batters. The Storm only had two base hits all game, both being doubles. Jesmaylin Arias had a double and a walk in the contest, scoring the team’s only run on a seventh-inning wild pitch. Elliot Lascelles picked up his first double as a professional, walking once in the game. Lascelles is a home run shy of the cycle across his first two professional games. The Storm drew five walks as a team, but went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position in the contest.
