Padres affiliates went 3-4 on Tuesday.

Let’s jump right into the games’ events. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 5-3 vs Round Rock) (49-71 on the season)

Dustin Harris – 2-for-3, Home Run, Double, Two RBI

Marcos Castanon – 2-for-4, Double, RBI

Jagger Haynes – 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R (4 ER), 2 BB, 2 K (88 pitches – 55 strikes)

El Paso’s lineup was held to seven baserunners in a series-opening loss. Dustin Harris reached base three times in the game, with both of his hits going for extra bases. Harris launched his fifth home run in the PCL against Round Rock starter Winston Santos. Marcos Castanon had two base hits in the game. The Chihuahuas’ third baseman drove in their first run on an RBI double down the line, his 60th RBI of the season. Rodolfo Duran went 1-for-3 with a double in the game, and a rehabbing Samad Taylor went 0-for-3 with a walk. 

Left-hander Jagger Haynes struggled against Round Rock despite pitching five innings. The Chihuahuas’ starting pitcher allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits. The left-hander only generated four swings and misses despite a 50% zone rate and 62.5% strike rate. Haynes’ sinker and changeup generated subpar quality of contact for opponents, but his four-seamer continues to struggle in this department. Daison Acosta threw 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Alek Jacob threw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, and Ethan Routzahn worked a scoreless ninth despite three walks. 

San Antonio Missions (Won 6-5 vs Northwest Arkansas) (52-63 on the season)

Albert Fabian – 4-for-4, Two Doubles, RBI

Tirso Ornelas – 3-for-5, Double, Two RBI

Fernando Sanchez – 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 5 K (72 pitches – 49 strikes)

The Missions rallied back from a three-run deficit in the ninth inning, earning a win on a Romeo Sanabria walk-off single. The Missions shook up their lineup, having Braedon Karpathios lead off and Alex McCoy in the two-hole. The changes didn’t look to be working until the sixth inning, where San Antonio broke through for two against rehabbing big leaguer Beck Way. Alex McCoy hit a one-out single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Tirso Ornelas scored McCoy on an RBI double, and the Missions’ left fielder came in to score on a two-out single from Albert Fabian. Justin DeCriscio grounded out with the bases loaded, ending the inning. Trailing by three in the ninth, Fabian hit a double before a single from Luis Verdugo brought the tying run to the plate. DeCriscio and Brendan Durfee struck out before Braedon Karpathios drew a two-out walk, clawing his way back from an 0-2 count. Manager Chris Tremie pinch-ran for Karpathios with Kai Roberts before Alex McCoy grounded a two-run single through the 5.5 hole. Northwest Arkansas manager Brooks Conrad called on reliever Zachary Cawyer, who gave up a game-tying single to Tirso Ornelas. With two runners in scoring position, Romeo Sanabria lined a game-winning hit to left field to win the game. Sanabria had two hits in the game, while Tirso Ornelas had three hits. Albert Fabian went 4-for-4 in the contest with two doubles. 

Fernando Sanchez started for the Missions, pitching five innings. The left-hander struck out five batters with just two walks, allowing four earned runs. Sanchez picked up 11 swings and misses from Naturals batters, with four of his strikeouts coming swinging. Notably, three of his five strikeouts came against former Padres backstop Jorge Alfaro. Garrett Hawkins threw a scoreless sixth inning, and Harry Gustin allowed one run in one inning of relief. Johan Moreno returned to the Missions with 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out three in the eighth. Francis Pena recorded the final two outs in the ninth, earning the win. 

Fort Wayne TinCaps – Swept “Doubleheader” vs Great Lakes

TinCaps won 6-5 in Game 1

Jack Costello – 1-for-1, Double, Two RBI

Luke Cantwell – 1-for-3, Single, RBI

Carlos Medina – 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K (25 pitches – 14 strikes)

Isaiah Lowe – 2.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K (53 pitches – 31 strikes)

On August 2, Fort Wayne led the second game of the doubleheader by a 6-2 score before inclement weather forced a postponement. Miguel Mendez threw one inning in the contest, allowing one run. Mendez allowed three hits and struck out one. Carlos Medina threw two innings in relief, striking out one. Javier Chacon threw one inning, allowing a run before the game was called. Jack Costello picked up where he left off in Game One by hitting a go-ahead two-run double. Oswaldo Linares had an RBI single, as did Luke Cantwell. The game will be resumed at a later date, but at Parkview Field. 

The game was resumed on August 18 at Parkview Field, where the TinCaps drew six walks, but scored no runs. On the mound, right-hander Isaiah Lowe pitched 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and three runs. Lowe cruised through the fifth and sixth innings, but in the seventh inning, the right-hander allowed a two-run home run to Mairo Martinus. Lowe departed the game with a runner on, and Fort Wayne turned to Will Varmette in his first appearance in a calendar week. Varmette allowed an RBI single to Eduardo Guerrero before retiring Samuel Munoz on a lineout to Kasen Wells. Varmette earned his fourth save of the season in the contest and has a 3.24 ERA across his last seven outings, striking out six while walking three and earning two saves. 

TinCaps won 7-4 in Game 2 (48-65 on the season)

Bradley Frye – 3-for-4, Double, Two RBI

Rosman Verdugo – 2-for-4, Double, Three RBI

Kannon Kemp – 4 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K (67 pitches – 46 strikes)

Right-hander Kannon Kemp threw four innings of one-run baseball while the TinCaps’ top of the lineup got busy against the Loons to sweep the doubleheader. Starting with the TinCaps’ starter, right-hander Kannon Kemp generated 17 swings and misses from a swing-happy Loons lineup, striking out six batters. Kemp did not issue a base on balls and received some help from his defense, as Kasen Wells threw out a runner at home in the fourth inning. It was Kemp’s best start of the season, and it gives him momentum as the TinCaps round out the season. Sean Barnett struck out three batters in the fifth inning, but allowed a three-run home run to Mairo Martinus in the sixth inning. Barnett threw 98 mph fastballs consistently, with his final pitch clocking in at 98 per both broadcasts. Bernard Jose recorded the final five outs to earn the save. 

Kasen Wells, Bradley Fyre, and Rosman Verdugo combined to 7-for-10 at the top of the Fort Wayne lineup. Wells hit two singles and drew a walk, scoring three of the team’s seven runs. Bradley Frye, fresh off winning the Minor League Baseball Play of the Week, had three hits. Frye’s biggest contribution was a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning, and he scored one run in the first inning. Rosman Verdugo had two hits, grounding a two-run double in the first inning to give the ‘Caps a lead. Kerrington Cross hit a double as part of a two-hit game, scoring two runs. Dylan Grego walked and scored a run. The pair of Wells and Verdugo were also responsible for the TinCaps’ two stolen bases. 

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 9-2 vs San Jose) (61-54 on the season)

Elliot Lascelles – 3-for-4, Triple, Run Scored

Dawson Willis – 2-for-4, Triple, Run Scored

Jesus A. Castro – 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 2 K (69 pitches – 44 strikes)

Elliot Lascelles made quite an impression in his professional debut. The Padres’ second-round pick went 3-for-4 with a triple, two singles, and a run scored. Lascelles picked up hits in his first three plate appearances as a professional, and in his own words, “You only have one pro debut[…]”. Lascelles was one of two Storm batters with multiple hits. Dawson Willis, who has been playing more center field as of late, went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored as well. Willis scored on an RBI groundout by Alex Conover, and Lascelles scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. Lascelles, Willis, and Truitt Madonna each had a stolen base in the game, with Madonna reaching base on two walks. Chris McHugh hit two singles, and Jorge Quintana went 1-for-4 with a single in the loss. With Lascelles arriving and starting at shortstop, Quintana was moved to third base. It remains to be seen how the Storm will divvy up reps at shortstop over the final weeks of the regular season. 

Jesus A. Castro labored through four innings, allowing a three-run home run in the first inning and a two-run double in the fourth. The right-hander struck out two batters and saw a 5-4 split between groundouts and flyouts. Castro’s outing was not his sharpest, and he has allowed 13 runs in his last three starts. Workload could be a concern here, as Castro is within five innings of doubling his innings workload from 2025 (43.1 IP in ‘25 vs 81.1 IP so far in ‘26). Brandon Langley allowed two runs in two innings of relief, striking out four batters. Langley also did not issue a walk. Yoesmerli Beltre allowed a two-run home run in the eighth inning, and left-hander Andrew Wright made his professional debut in the ninth. Wright struck out two of his three batters faced. 

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 2-1 vs DSL Astros Blue) (40-16 on the season)

Yorvin Morla – 1-for-2, Single

Timothy Mogen – 1-for-2, Single

Angel Gamarra – 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K 

The DSL Padres Gold were outpitched on Tuesday, falling 2-1 to the DSL Astros Blue. Angel Gamarra threw three innings, striking out two. The Colombian right-hander allowed just three baserunners, with his only run allowed coming on a sac fly. Valentin Perez took the loss, allowing one run in two-thirds of an inning. Yoel Duarte struck out the side in his lone inning of work. Yorvin Morla and Timothy Mogen each hit singles in the loss, with Morla’s single scoring Gabriel Teran on an error. 

DSL Padres Brown (Lost 23-4 vs DSL Royals Ventura) (11-44 on the season)

Pedro Silva – 1-for-1, Home Run, Two RBI, Three Walks

Osmy Osorio – 1-for-4, Triple, RBI

Deon Tusent – 2.1 IP, 5 H, 7 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 0 K

Yes, this was a real score in a baseball game. Starting pitcher Deon Tusent allowed seven runs (six unearned) while the Padres Brown’s bullpen gave up 16 runs (14 earned) in a disappointing loss. Padres pitchers only struck out five batters, allowing 20 hits. The defense didn’t fare much better, committing seven fielding errors. Pedro Silva reached base in all four of his plate appearances, launching a two-run home run as part of a four-run fifth inning. Ronnier Heras hit an RBI double to score Berman Moreno, and Osmy Osorio’s RBI groundout scored Jhostin Fuentes.
