After snapping a four-game losing streak by beating the Giants on Tuesday, the Padres sought the two-game sweep of San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon. Michael King looked to continue the good momentum Nick Pivetta created for Padres starters the day before.

The Giants came at the Padres’ lineup with 26-year-old Landen Roupp.

Just like Tuesday’s game, the Padres got started early. In the bottom of the second, Tyler Wade singled home a run to open the scoring. Elias Diaz lined a ball towards the top of the left field fence in the bottom of the third. It was initially ruled a home run, but the umpires converged to review a possible fan interference. The call was upheld, and Diaz was credited with his second homer of the season, extending San Diego’s lead to 2-0.

Three straight singles in the bottom of the fifth led to a run, an RBI single from Manny Machado. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jose Iglesias hit a dribbler up the third base line that stayed fair to bring in another run, giving the Padres a 4-0 lead.

Things got a little tense in the top of the sixth. The Giants put two runners on with one out. Willy Adames came up, looking to do damage. He hit a ball that had a .500 expected batting average; however, the computer doesn’t take into account that he hit the ball right at one of the best fielding third basemen of this generation.

Machado saved a run and maybe a bigger rally for the Giants. They were able to get one, but that’s all.

Michael King finished the day with 5 2/3 innings pitched, six strikeouts, one walk, and one earned run.

The Padres looked determined to get that run back. Recently returned Luis Arraez had one of the biggest swings of the day, hitting a triple into the right field corner, scoring Elias Diaz in the process. This got the margin back to four runs.

It’s a good thing, too, as the Giants peppered two solo homers late against Padres relievers. Heliot Ramos got one off of Jeremiah Estrada, and Mike Yastrzemski got to Jason Adam. However, the Padres’ bullpen did a good job limiting the damage.

I'd like this amount to

Robert Suarez allowed no such nonsense in his inning, blowing the Giants away with two strikeouts and a pop-up, working around a walk. He earned his 12th save of the season, which is currently the most in all of MLB.

Fernando Tatis Jr. totaled three hits, capping off a white-hot April.

The Padres sealed the 5-3 win and moved to 19-11 on the year. They leapfrogged the Giants in the NL West standings with this two-game sweep. They sit alone in second place, 1 1/2 games back of the first-place Dodgers.

San Diego now embarks on one of the biggest road trips of the season. Now, they have an off day on Thursday before opening a weekend series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. They then travel to New York to play the Yankees before ending the long road trip in Denver.
