Matias Aguirregaray is a forgettable name for Xolos’ fans, part of a forgettable era in the team’s history under the management of Eduardo “El Chacho” Coudet.

The Uruguayan fullback was a very entertaining player to watch as he ran up and down the entire pitch, but he was not very good at defending, which is a problem for a defender.

Aguirregaray somehow managed to earn a loan move to Spanish side Las Palmas after a season in Tijuana. His time in Spain was not very memorable as he played in 15 league games and failed to be an impactful player.

His loan deal has now expired and Aguirregaray recently reappeared in Tijuana.

However, Xolos’ manager Diego Cocca did say that the 29-year-old is not in his plans and he is on his way out soon. The Uruguayan fullback has been training with the team, but according to reports, is now close to heading to an Argentine club.

“Chacho” Coudet is currently at Racing Club, and it comes to no surprise that Aguirregaray is linked to the team from Avellaneda. Alejandro Donatti and Gustavo Bou, a pair of former Xoloitzcuintles, are also at Racing Club, and the move would make sense.

Bou just arrived at the team this season while Donatti was recently named as the best defender in the Argentine league for the 2017-2018 season. Aguirregaray did play in Argentina from 2013-2017 with Estudiantes de La Plata and will adapt quickly with a team like Racing Club.

The 29-year-old is likely to be sold, and the deal should go through within the next few days as the start of the Superliga Argentina approaches.
