The Tijuana Xolos will host Pumas UNAM at the Estadio Caliente this Tuesday, February 25, for a game in the Liga MX 2025 Clausura.
Club Tijuana has been having a disastrous season with only one win in this campaign, coming off a 2-0 loss to Puebla away from home.
The Xoloitzcuintles’ away struggles have been present for several years now, but the home record has not been any better this season. In four home games this season, the Border City Dogs only have one win and three losses, most recently losing 2-1 to FC Juarez.
Juan Carlos Osorio has not found any consistency with his team this semester, and the new signings have been ineffective so far. Shamar Nicholson has especially struggled in the attack, with Raul Zuniga really taking charge of this Club Tijuana offense.
However, these new signings still have very few minutes in Liga MX, and it is unclear if they will hit their stride by the end of the season. Juan Carlos Osorio must find more defensive stability, as this has been a major concern in this Clausura 2025.
Club Tijuana is tied with San Luis for worst defense in the Liga MX with 19 goals conceded. With nine games left in the regular season, playoffs already seem highly unlikely.
There are only four home games left for the Aztec Canines this season, and a win is necessary in this match for any hope of the postseason.
Pumas UNAM are in 11th place with 11 points and on a two-game losing streak in league play. The Capital City team is coming off a 2-0 loss against rivals Club America and is also in need of a positive result from this game.
Piero Quispe received a red card in that game against Club America and will not be available for this game. It is unclear if Rogelio Funes Mori will get a starting opportunity in this game with Quispe’s absence.
This is a winnable game for the Xoloitzcuintles and they must take advantage of the locality at the Mictlan. Juan Carlos Osorio served a one-match ban in the game against Puebla and will now be back on the sidelines for this game.
Francisco, 28, Chula Vista/Tijuana. I have been a Padres fan all my life, did most of the series previews and recaps in the Padres’ 2016 season for EVT. Now I focus more on the local soccer scene. Tijuana Xolos, San Diego FC, San Diego Wave. I have covered Liga MX, MLS, Mexico National Team, USWNT, Copa América and European clubs like Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund.
great on line work
