This Thursday, June 6, San Diego FC officially announced the signing of Hirving Lozano as the team’s first designated player.
This is a four-year deal through the end of the 2028 MLS season, with Lozano staying out on loan with his current club, PSV Eindhoven, until January 1, 2025.
“It’s exciting to be part of history as we build a club that will compete for championships in MLS,” Chuky Lozano said. “In every country I have played, I always strive to leave a mark, and making an impact in San Diego and MLS is very important to me.”
Lozano is coming to San Diego FC with still plenty to prove, especially with the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon. Lozano was left off the Mexico national team roster for the 2024 Copa America but is still a player considered among the best with El Tri.

The 28-year-old forward is one of the biggest fan favorites on the Mexico national team and will always be remembered for his iconic goal against Germany at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
This past season with PSV Eindhoven, Lozano scored six goals and provided three assists in a title-winning season. Lozano has had a very decorated club career, winning a Liga MX and Concacaf Champions League title with Pachuca, a Serie A and Coppa Italia title with Napoli, and two Eredivisie championships with PSV Eindhoven.
Lozano’s most notable campaign came in the 2020/2021 season, where he scored 11 goals in the very competitive Italian Serie A, which is one of the best club competitions in the world. “Chucky” can play on either wing or centrally if needed, as he is a very valuable asset on the offensive side of the pitch.
His best position is out wide, where he can use his impressive speed, which is still one of his best qualities. Lozano has all the tools to potentially be one of the best players in MLS, and this is a very exciting signing for SDFC. There is a massive Mexican community in San Diego, and he will be very well-received in this city.
On the marketing side of things, Lozano is also a massive signing due to his popularity and what he can bring to San Diego FC. Lozano is officially San Diego’s fourth signing, with Duran Ferree, Jeppe Tverskov, and Marcus Ingvartsen already on the team.
