The San Diego Padres affiliates had an abbreviated day today, going 1-2 in Sunday’s slate.

Here’s a recap of the day’s action.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 10-5 to Albuquerque)

The Chihuahuas fell behind early against the Albuquerque Isotopes on their Sunday matinee, losing by a score of 10-5. Gabe Mosser struggled in his start, surrendering five runs on eight hits across 3 ⅓ innings. It’s been a continuation of struggles for the 2018 draftee, who now has a 10.57 ERA across five starts and 15 ⅓ innings. The Chihuahuas bullpen mostly fared well, with Sean Reynolds and Logan Gillaspie putting up zeros. However, Tom Cosgrove struggled yet again, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks. Cosgrove has not had an easy time while on optional assignment in El Paso, now the owner of a 30.86 ERA in El Paso.

Offensively, the Chihuahuas were led by Mason McCoy and Nate Mondou, who both recorded multi-hit games. Otherwise, the Chihuahuas were mostly held off the scoreboard other than a four-run seventh inning; Mathew Batten & Nate Mondou hit RBI singles, Kevin Plawecki hit a sacrifice fly, and McCoy hit his second RBI single of the day in the frame. However, the deficit was merely too large, and the Chihuahuas fell 10-5.

San Antonio Missions (Postponed vs Frisco)
The Missions’ regularly scheduled game against the Frisco RoughRiders was postponed today. No makeup date has been announced yet.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 7-6 vs Whitecaps in 10)

The Fort Wayne TinCaps won a thriller of a game, coming back from a 5-0 deficit to win 7-6 on the road. TinCaps starter Tyler Morgan had a rough outing, getting jumped for four runs in the first inning. The Whitecaps would add on another run in the second. However, from the third inning onwards, the TinCaps’ bullpen would allow only one run on two hits. Relievers David Morgan, Will Geerdes, and Ryan Och all pitched two innings of relief, with Och’s two innings containing five strikeouts.

Offensively, the TinCaps were led by Homer Bush Jr, who would have two go-ahead RBI base hits in the comeback victory. Ethan Salas recorded an RBI single of his own in the game as well. It was a much-needed hit for Salas, who is off to a slow start in his first full pro season. With the game tied at six in the tenth, Tyler Robertson would come through with a sacrifice fly to put the TinCaps ahead, and Mitch Miller would record his second save of the season to close out a 7-6 TinCaps win.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 10-7 vs 66ers)

The Storm rode high-scoring third and fourth-inning rallies to a victory in a 10-7 slugfest against the Inland Empire 66ers. The pitching for the Storm navigated its way through the 66ers lineup, with Keegan Collett and Luis German combining for 3.2 shutout relief innings to hold the Storm’s lead. Storm starter Miguel Mendez had a two inning start, giving up two runs on three hits, while recording three strikeouts along the way.

Offensively, the Storm were led by the top of their order. Rosman Verdugo continued his hot hitting in the third with a go-ahead RBI double. Nick Vogt would hit a two-RBI double to add two more for Lake Elsinore, and Ethan Long’s first home run of the season would make it a 7-3 lead for the Storm. The 66ers would draw closer in the fifth inning to make it a 7-5 score, but Romeo Sanabria would drive in two to give the Storm some insurance. The Storm would score their final run on a wild pitch, and Thomas Balboni Jr would record the final out to close a 10-7 Storm win.

Arizona Complex League Padres (No Scheduled Game)
The young Padres at the Complex League did not have a game today. They return to action tomorrow against the ACL Angels.
