This Tuesday, March 19, 2024, San Diego FC officially announced the signings of Jeppe Tverskov and Marcus Ingvartsen from sibling club FC Nordsjaelland.

San Diego FC’s first-ever signing was goalkeeper Duran Ferree, as Tverskov and Ingvartsen join as the second and third signings in the club’s history.

Tverskov signed a two-year contract through 2026, while Ingvartsen signed a three-year one through 2027.

Jeppe Tverskov is a 31-year-old Danish midfielder who offers more of a defensive role in the midfield. He is versatile and can also play as a centre-back. Tverskov has played his entire professional career in the Danish league dating back to 2010 and just recently joined FC Nordsjaelland last year.

Last season, Tverskov played 22 games for the Tigers and he managed to score two goals and provide two assists from his defensive position. The veteran stands in at 6-foot-1 and offers a strong physical presence that can prove to be very valuable in the midfield or backline and on set-pieces when attacking.

Marcus Ingvartsen is a 28-year-old Danish forward who has had more of a diverse career than Tverskov, playing in three different countries. Ingvartsen started his professional career with FC Nordsjaelland in 2012 and 2017 went on to play with Belgian club Genk before moving to the German Bundesliga with Union Berlin and Mainz. Ingvartsen’s best season in the Bundesliga came in the 2022/2023 campaign when he scored 10 goals in 16 games as a starter for Mainz.

The 28-year-old forward returned to FC Nordsjaelland last season, where he scored seven goals and provided two assists in 20 games.

The German Bundesliga is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and it is very impressive that Ingvartsen was able to compete and score in it for about four years. Ingvartsen has inclusively represented Denmark internationally in nearly all youth categories and has a cap with the senior team back in 2021.

SDFC has proven it will use its partnerships to help grow the team, and this is another example of this, as FC Nordsjaelland is owned by Mohamed Mansour and is part of the Right to Dream community. It will be interesting to see if any more players make the transition to San Diego or if, in the future, the Danish club is also sent players from its MLS partner.
