Padres Down on the Farm: October 14 (Naylor with walk-off homer in D.R./Ramirez makes winter league debut)
Three separate winter league baseball leagues are in action throughout the globe currently.
Here is a brief recap of all the San Diego Padres players that were in action on the day.
Arizona Fall League
Owen Miller– (0-4) K
The Padres young infielder is off to a .188 start in Arizona and has received sporadic playing time. He batted fifth on Monday and went 0-for-4 in the game while playing second base for the Javelinas. Miller had a positive year in Amarillo and could be an up-and-coming player in the future for the Padres.
Hudson Potts– (0-3) 2 K’s
Hudson Potts has also been struggling as is hitting .182 on the year. He batted eighth on Monday and is struggling with putting the ball in play. Potts is still very young and has a lot of upside. If he can be more selective, he can be a solid major league player.
Dominican Winter League
Josh Naylor– (2-3) HR, 2 Runs, 2 RBI’s, SB, K
Naylor is off to a great start in the Dominican Republic. He is currently batting .500 in his first handful of games for the Leones de Escogido. On Monday, the left-handed slugger hit a dramatic two-run homer to walk-off the game for the Leones in the bottom of the 9th. Naylor also stole a base in the game as he continues to play outfield every day.
Ivan Castillo– (0-4) 2 K’s
Castillo has been batting leadoff for the Leones and has a .308 average to start his 2019 winter league. The small in stature Dominican plays the game with such life. He won the Texas League batting title this year while playing for the Amarillo Sod Poodles.
Aderlin Rodriguez– (0-3)
The slugging infielder is off to a .200 start playing for Escogido. He is the third member of the Padres playing for Jayce Tingler in the D.R. The big right-handed hitter has plenty of power and put up great numbers last season in the PCL.
Emmanuel Ramirez– 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K’s (50 pitches-31 strikes)
The 25-year-old Dominican pitcher made his debut for the Tigres de Licey. The right-hander allowed only one earned run and has a 3.00 ERA early in his season. Ramirez has proved to be very durable, making it to the Triple-A level this season for the Padres. He will look to continue his development this winter in the D.R.
Eguy Rosario– (1-3) Run
The small right-handed hitter played third base on Monday in the D.R. for the Toros del Este. He is off to a .143 clip in his first series of games in the Dominican Republic. The 20-year-old infielder spent the entire 2019 season in Lake Elsinore, putting up a .742 OPS.
