San Diego Padres affiliates went 2-3 on Thursday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 6-2 over Tacoma) (24-24 on the season)

Tim Locastro– (2-for-4) 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2 SB

Trenton Brooks– (1-for-3) HR, 2 RBI, Run, BB

Luis Campusano– (1-for-4) 2B, Run, RBI

Kyle Hart-5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K (85 pitches- 51 strikes)

The El Paso Chihuahuas won at home 6-2 as Kyle Hart earned the win and pitched well. The lefty went five innings, scattering three hits and four walks in the game. He allowed two earned runs and struck out four batters in the game. Hart has a 2.29 ERA in the PCL, which is pretty remarkable. The Padres will likely call him back up at some point if he continues to pitch like this. Jason Blanchard, Ethan Routzahn, and David Morgan finished off the game for El Paso without allowing a run to score.

Luis Campusano continues to hit in the PCL as the catcher went 1-for-4 with a double in the game and maintains a 1.062 OPS for El Paso. Trenton Brooks slugged his 8th homer of the season in the win as the journeyman outfielder is enjoying a productive year for the Chihuahuas. Another veteran player, Tim Locastro, went 2-for-4 and stole two bases in the win. Each member of the El Paso lineup recorded a hit except for Rudolfo Duran, who went 0-for-4.

San Antonio Missions (Won 2-1 over Wichita) (21-21 on the season)

Romeo Sanabria- (1-for-3)

Francisco Acuna- (2-for-4) HR, Run, RBI, SB

Marcos Castanon– (1-for-3) 2B, Run

Henry Baez– 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 6 K (95 pitches- 63 strikes)

The Missions won a pitcher’s duel, and Henry Baez was really excellent on Thursday. The right-handed pitcher out of the Dominican Republic went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and a walk. He struck out six batters in the game in his 95 pitches. Baez’s ERA is down to 2.70 on the season, and he could be an option for the Padres very soon. Bradgley Rodriguez earned the win as he threw a scoreless inning for the Missions. Manuel Castro earned his fifth save of the season as he threw a scoreless 9th for the San Antonio.

Francisco Acuna recorded a leadoff homer and stole a base for the Missions. Marcos Castanon doubled in the win, and Romer Sanabria went 1-for-3. Nerwilian Cedeno drove in Castanon in the 8th inning for the game-winner. San Antonio failed to walk in the game, but they also struck out only four times. Their offensive game plan was attacking the Wichita pitchers early and often.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 3-1 to Cedar Rapids) (20-21 on the season)

Brendan Durfee– (2-for-4)

Kai Roberts- (2-for-3) Run, 2 BB, 2 SB

Rosman Verdugo– (1-for-4) RBI

Clark Candiotti– 4.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, BB, 9 K (85 pitches- 60 strikes)

Fort Wayne fell 3-1 to Cedar Rapids in a pitcher’s duel. It was a cold night in Fort Wayne, and the hitters had issues generating any offense. Clark Candiotti started the game for the TinCaps, and the 4th-round pick in 2024 went four-plus innings and threw 85 pitches. He struck out nine in the game and walked only one batter. The TinCaps got out to an early lead on an RBI single off the bat of Rosman Verdugo that scored Kai Murphy in the first inning. Candiotti left, losing 2-1, but pitched well in the game. Harry Gustin threw three innings for the Fort Wayne and allowed one earned run. The lefty continues to look really good with a mid-90s fastball and multiple off-speed pitches.

Kai Murphy was on base four times, but the TinCaps were unable to score the leadoff hitter more than his first-inning run. Fort Wayne was 1-for-7 in the game with runners in scoring position and struck out 16 times in the game. Sean Barnett was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Each member of the starting nine struck out at least once in the game. Leodalis De Vries went 1-for-4 in the loss and stole a base. Brendan Durfee was 2-for-4 for the TinCaps.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 5-3 to Visalia) (17-25 on the season)

Kavares Tears– (2-for-5)

Zach Evans-(3-for-5) 2B, RBI

Victor Figueroa– (1-for-5) Run

Johan Moreno– 4 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 6 K (47 pitches- 34 strikes)

Zach Evans singled up the middle in the top of the 10th inning, driving in Ryan Jackson from third base, putting Lake Elsinore up 3-2. It was Evans’ third hit of the day, as the California League’s leading hitter continues to produce for the Storm. Evans is hitting .338 on the season with an .824 OPS. It looked like a win for the Storm, but Ruben Salinas imploded in the bottom of the 10th inning as he allowed a two-strike, two-out hit to Alberto Barriga to tie the game. The lefty proceeded to make an error on a pickoff throw, allowing Barriga to advance to third base with two outs. Yassel Soler stepped to the plate and blasted a home run to left field, ending the game.

Johan Moreno pitched well out of the pen as he threw four shutout innings for the Storm. Maikel Miralles started the game and allowed an earned run in two innings of work. Kavares Tears went 2-for-5 in the loss. First baseman Victor Figueroa was 1-for-5 in the game with a run scored.

ACL Padres (Lost 4-0 over ACL Padres) (4-11 on the season)

Donte Grant-(1-for-3) SB

Ismael Javier– (1-for-2)

Eguy Rosario– (0-for-2) BB

Darlin Mendez– 2 IP, 1 H, 3 K

The ACL Padres team continues to play uninspired baseball, dropping their 11th game in 15 contests this season. The ACL Rockies team beat them 4-0, as the club managed two hits in the game. The Padres did six times in the game, but they only managed one batter to reach second base. Ismael Javier went 1-for-2, and Donte Grant was 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Eguy Rosario continues to play in Arizona and went 0-for-2 in the game.

Tanner Smith started the game and did not make it out of the first inning. The 15th round pick in 2024 out of Harvard was tagged for two earned runs in 2/3 of an inning of work. Darlin Mendez pitched well out of the pen for the Padres as he struck out three in two scoreless innings of work.
