Padres minor league affiliates went 4-3 on Friday.

Here is a recap of the games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 14-9 vs Albuquerque) (31-30 on the season)

Trenton Brooks – 3-for-4, Three Doubles, Three RBI

Mason McCoy – 2-for-6, Home Run, Four RBI

Omar Cruz – 4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K (74 pitches – 51 strikes)

An offensive explosion in El Paso led to a Chihuahuas win. Trenton Brooks had three doubles in the game, driving in three runs in the process. Mason McCoy had two hits and drove in four runs on the night, including a massive three-run home run in the fourth inning. Yonathan Perlaza had a double and two singles in the game, also driving in three runs. Tirso Ornelas hit three singles in the game, driving in one run. Cody Roberts hit his first Chihuahuas home run, and Tim Locastro scored three runs in the game.

Omar Cruz started for the Chihuahuas, tossing 3.2 innings of three-run baseball. Cruz struck out four batters in the game, allowing three runs. Cruz got plenty of chases on his curveball and changeup, throwing 68.9% of his pitches for strikes. The left-hander’s ability to pitch as a starter and reliever should help him back to the big leagues. Francis Pena got the win with 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out one batter. Alek Jacob allowed four runs (three earned) while not recording an out. Harold Chirino got the final six outs on 15 pitches, ending the game 14-9 in favor of the Chihuahuas.

San Antonio Missions (Won 4-2 vs Midland) (30-25 on the season)

Francisco Acuna – 3-for-5, Double, Single, Two RBI

Wyatt Hoffman – 2-for-3, Double, RBI

Braden Nett – 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 6 K (67 pitches – 46 strikes)

The Missions were up for a challenging task facing left-hander Gage Jump. The left-hander had struck out 44 in 38 innings in May, but the Missions didn’t care about the numbers. The team made the left-hander labor through 4.1 innings, scoring two runs (one earned) while drawing three walks. While Marcos Castanon struck out in the third inning, the third strike got away from Midland catcher Cole Conn, and Castanon reached, with Devin Ortiz coming in the backdoor to score. Francisco Acuna singled in Addison Kopack in the fourth inning to score the Missions’ second run. The Missions got two more runs against right-hander Colin Peluse, with Wyatt Hoffman doubling to score one run, while Acuna doubled in Hoffman to extend the lead to 4-1.

Braden Nett started for the Missions and delivered a strong outing, outdueling Gage Jump. Nett allowed an unearned run in five innings of work, striking out six batters. Nett’s sequencing was impressive, using his fastball to set up the breaking pitches and vice versa. Nett continues to strike out batters with his deeper arsenal, and has struck out 26.1% of batters faced this season while bringing his walk rate down to 11.2%. Jake Higginbotham allowed a run on two hits in a 36-pitch sixth inning, but Carter Loewen got six outs on 13 pitches to get the game to the ninth inning, where Jose Espada worked around a walk to record his third save of the season.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 3-0 vs Beloit) (28-27 on the season)

Sean Barnett – 2-for-4, Double

Braedon Karpathios – 1-for-4, Single, RBI

Miguel Mendez – 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K (83 pitches – 53 strikes)

On the Minor League Baseball Game of the Day, Miguel Mendez outdueled Marlins top prospect Thomas White. Mendez tossed six dominant innings, striking out seven batters and reaching 100 mph on his fastball. Mendez also got whiffs on 38.7% of swings against, flummoxing the Sky Carp throughout the outing. The dominance did not end when Mendez departed, as Harry Gustin came on to toss the final three innings, striking out six of 10 batters faced.

Thomas White stymied the offense in the first four innings, but came alive in the middle innings against Ike Buxton. A pair of two-out walks by Leo De Vries and Rosman Verdugo got runners on first and second, and Braedon Karpathios singled to score De Vries. Ethan Long singled in the seventh inning to score Oswaldo Linares, aided in part by an error from Sky Carp left fielder Michael Snyder. Long reached base in the ninth inning on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice, scoring the third and final run of the game.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 4-1 vs Modesto) (27-28 on the season)

Lamar King Jr – 1-for-4, RBI Double

Ryan Jackson – 1-for-4, Single, Run Scored

Abraham Parra – 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K (74 pitches – 42 strikes)

Right-hander Abraham Parra made his second start in Lake Elsinore, throwing five innings of three-run baseball. Parra struck out four batters in the outing, walking only two and getting six of 15 outs on the ground. Parra has made three starts in Lake Elsinore, and while his results on paper haven’t been dominant, the 19-year-old right-hander is finding his footing at the Single-A level. Igor Gil tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and right-hander Vicarte Domingo allowed one run in one inning, but threw 10 of his 12 pitches for strikes.

The offense had a quiet day, uncharacteristic for the team’s recent 10-1 run. Lamar King Jr had an RBI double in the first inning, making the score 1-0 for Lake Elsinore, but that would be all the scoring in the game. Storm batters were held in check by Nuts pitchers, with right-hander Walter Ford holding the team to one run in seven innings. The team did not have a rally in them, as they had only one baserunner after Ford’s exit, being an eighth-inning walk by Chase Valentine

ACL Padres (Won 9-8 vs ACL White Sox) (6-19 on the season)

Luis De Leon – 1-for-5, Three-Run Home Run

Kevin Hacen – 1-for-4, Three-Run Double

Adan Moreno – 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 0 K

In a wild, back-and-forth affair, Luis De Leon’s three-run homer in the eighth inning was the deciding factor in what became a 9-8 ACL Padres win. De Leon’s home run was one of two hits that drove in three runs in the game. Corner infielder Kevin Hacen opened the Padres’ scoring with a three-run double in the second inning, giving the team their first lead of the game. Yimy Tovar and Yoiber Ocopio each had RBI singles in the win. Kale Fountain was 1-for-4 with a double in the game, despite striking out three times.

Adan Moreno made his first rehab appearance of the season, tossing one inning and allowing one run on two hits. Langston Burkett tossed a scoreless inning, which should help him rebuild his confidence after a rough start to the season. Winyer Chourio struck out six in three innings of one-run baseball. Dariel Polanco allowed four runs, two earned, in 1.1 innings, but Jordan Valenzuela managed to keep the game tied at six, earning the win. Miguel Valdez came on for the ninth with a three-run lead, and despite allowing two runs, he was able to close out the win.

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 4-3 vs DSL Tampa Bay) (2-2 on the season)

Deivid Coronil – 2-for-3, Two Singles, Walk

Kevin Tamburini – 1-for-3, Double, Walk, Run Scored

Raymel Belliard – 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 2 K

The Padres Gold held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth, but a Tampa Bay rally led to a walk-off loss. Deivid Coronil showed off his hit tool in the game, going 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk. Jhoan De La Cruz had one hit in four at-bats, and Kevin Tamburini had the team’s lone double of the game. Eduarlin Tejeda drove in a run on an RBI walk, and Alexander Garcia singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Raymel Belliard made his first career start after four relief appearances with the Padres Brown last season. Belliard finished three innings, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks. Command was an issue for the 19-year-old right-hander, as he allowed eight baserunners while striking out just two. Left-hander Edwyn Hernandez tossed four shutout innings in long relief, striking out five. Hernandez has started the season strong and looks to build upon a rough debut season in 2024. Johan Minaya took the loss, allowing two runs in 0.2 innings.

DSL Padres Brown (Lost 6-1 vs DSL Athletics) (3-1 on the season)

Yonaiker Hernandez – 1-for-3, Single, Run Scored

Angel Mejia – 1-for-2, SIngle, Walk

Kelvin Marte – 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 3 K

Kelvin Marte made his first start of the season for the Padres Brown. The right-hander lasted four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out three batters. For a first start, Marte pitched rather well. Jose Montijo did not fare as well in relief, being knocked around for four runs on five hits while recording just two outs. Left-hander Victor Pilar tossed 2.1 scoreless innings the rest of the way.

The Padres’ Brown offense had a sluggish day at the plate, but even so, they were able to get baserunners. The team had a total of three hits and four walks, getting a baserunner per inning on average. Yonaiker Hernandez scored the team’s lone run after a fifth-inning single, scoring on Darian Castillo’s two-out hit-by-pitch. Angel Mejia was 1-for-2 with a single and a walk. Jose Verdugo finished with a single, continuing to show strong plate discipline for a young player.
