Padres minor league affiliates went 3-3 on Saturday.

Here is our daily recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 8-5 vs Reno) (66-52 on the season)

Yonathan Perlaza – 1-for-4, Two-Run Home Run

Mason McCoy – 2-for-4, Two-Run Home Run

Miguel Cienfuegos – 2.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K (65 pitches – 38 strikes)

A trio of homers and a two-headed tandem of southpaws led the Chihuahuas to a win in Reno. Starting on the mound, Miguel Cienfuegos pitched 2.2 innings while on a pitch count, striking out four batters. The Canadian left-hander held the Reno offense to one run on five hits. Jake Higginbotham took over in the third and went a season-high 3.1 innings, striking out five and allowing only one hit. Manuel Castro allowed two runs in two innings of work, and Harold Chirino allowed four baserunners in the ninth. Alek Jacob recorded the final two outs to close out the Chihuahuas’ 66th win.

At the dish, Yonathan Perlaza struck first with a towering two-run home run. For Perlaza, it was his 14th homer of the season, and his second homer in three games. Rodolfo Duran’s August surge continued with a three-hit game; one of his three hits was a fourth-inning RBI single. Tim Locastro launched a solo homer in the game, and Mason McCoy hit a two-run homer to left that clanked off the giveaway pickup truck in the Reno left field seats.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 5-3 vs Tulsa) (55-58 on the season)

Anthony Vilar – 1-for-2, Two-Run Triple

Francisco Acuna – 2-for-3, Two Singles, Two Walks

Enmanuel Pinales – 2.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 6 BB, 1 K (84 pitches – 42 strikes)

The Missions dropped a tenth straight game, losing 5-3 against Tulsa. Enmanuel Pinales struggled with his command against a patient Drillers lineup, walking six batters in 2.2 innings of work. The walks were brutal for the right-hander, who has seen an uptick in free passes at Double-A this season, and one strikeout in the whole outing simply will not play. Four relievers for the Missions pitched scoreless ball the rest of the way. Misael Tamarez retired all four batters he faced, and Garrett Hawkins laid the initial foundation to a new scoreless streak with a scoreless ninth.

The Missions’ offense showed some discipline, drawing seven walks in the game, but scoring only three runs. Ten runners left on base was at the core of the team’s issues, as they stranded ten runners on Saturday. Anthony Vilar had a two-run triple for San Antonio to drive in two of their three runs. Devin Ortiz reached base three times as the leadoff man, and Francisco Acuna had a two-hit game, also walking twice. Ortiz scored the Missions’ first run on a bunt single by Acuna in the first inning. Despite the strong individual performances, the Missions’ 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position was at the center of their offensive struggles.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 3-0 vs West Michigan) (52-60 on the season)

Kasen Wells – 2-for-4, Two Singles

Zach Evans – 2-for-4, Two Singles

Luis Gutierrez – 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K (71 pitches – 38 strikes)

The Fort Wayne offense took an early 1-0 lead and added on late to back a standout performance by a trio of arms in a shutout win. Zach Evans and Kasen Wells each finished with two hits in the win, with Brendan Durfee joining the hit parade with an RBI double to score Jack Costello. Ryan Jackson was the lone member of the starting lineup to not record a hit in the game, with every other member of the lineup with at least one hit. Lamar King Jr had two hits, including an eighth-inning single to add on an insurance run. Luis Gutierrez threw four shutout innings for the TinCaps, striking out five batters. Gutierrez had two pickoffs in the game, allowing him to counter four walks and a hit batsman. Despite a rain delay, Gutierrez pitched the fourth inning after the delay. Fellow southpaw Harry Gustin delivered three scoreless innings in long relief, striking out three batters. Gustin entered the game sporting a career-high 29.7% strikeout rate and continued to show his strong breaking pitches. Nick Wissman tossed a scoreless eighth and worked around three singles in the ninth to close out the game and strand the bases loaded.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 12-11 in 11 innings vs San Jose) (51-62 on the season)

Alex McCoy – 4-for-6, Three Doubles

Dylan Grego – 2-for-6, Home Run

Bryan Balzer – 3.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K (62 pitches – 38 strikes)

The Storm and Giants engaged in a ballgame that was absolute cinema down at the Diamond, and in a game where one team had to lose, Lake Elsinore came up just short after 11 innings. Starter Bryan Balzer continues to show improvement this season after a rough June/July, as he allowed four runs on six hits over 3.2 innings. It was Balzer’s second consecutive outing working into the fourth inning, showcasing that he is returning to full strength. Kleiber Olmedo tossed two innings of relief, but lacked command of his stuff, as he allowed five runs (four earned). Bernard Jose allowed one run in 2.1 innings, tallying two K’s. Adam Conrad allowed the automatic runner to score in the tenth, but it was the only run he allowed in two innings. Johan Moreno was charged with an unearned run in one inning of work, taking the loss after the automatic runner scored in the eleventh inning.

The lineup was led by a four-hit game by Alex McCoy. McCoy had three doubles in the ballgame, scoring two runs. Dylan Grego hit his first professional homer over the Ad Monster in the second inning, and Kale Fountain had three walks and an RBI apiece. Kerrington Cross drew four walks while scoring twice, and Ryan Wideman had an RBI single, also scoring two runs. Wideman also had his first professional stolen base. The Storm would finish 5-for-19 with runners in scoring position, stranding 11 runners in the loss.

I'd like this amount to

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 3-1 vs DSL Tampa Bay) (37-17 on the season)

Santiago Contreras – 2-for-4, Double

Jose Verdugo – 0-for-2, Two Walks

Jeronimo Palmeros – 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K

Despite a strong start from Jeronimo Palmeros, the Padres Gold’s pitching staff allowed two runs to fall 3-1. Starting with Palmeros, the left-hander struck out six in five innings. Palmeros scattered one run on three hits in his outing, and his 28.5% strikeout rate this season is one of the highest of any DSL Padres players this season. Daniel Burciaga allowed the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, his lone inning of work. Josias Figuereo threw a wild pitch that scored a run in one inning of work. At the plate, the story was just Santiago Contreras. The Padres Gold’s center fielder had two hits, including a double. Contreras also delivered an outfield assist to cut down a runner in the sixth. Jose Verdugo drew two walks in the game, and Yorvin Morla scored the team’s lone run.

DSL Padres Brown (Won 13-10 vs DSL Orioles Orange) (19-34 on the season)

Andres Garza – 1-for-2, Two RBI, Three Walks

Jose Bericoto – 1-for-3, Two RBI

Jose Montijo – 0.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 4 BB, 0 K

Despite a short start from Jose Montijo, the Padres Brown scored 13 runs to secure a game win. While Montijo allowed five runs in a third of an inning, the Padres Brown struck back over the ensuing four innings. Jose Bericoto had one hit but drove in two runs. Andres Garza had one hit but drew three walks, driving in two. Frederick Saguita scored two runs while Alberto Enriche scored three in the game. The Padres used a pairing of productive outs and 15 walks to pile up the score. Wilkins Matos allowed one run over 1.2 innings. Juan Guzman allowed three runs in 2.1 innings, and Randoll Cruz earned a five-out save, recording four outs via the K.
