Padres Down on the Farm: August 14 (Basabe 2 HR for FW/Azocar 4 hits, HR in EP/Castanon homers for LE)
The San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-1 on Sunday, as the DSL Padres and ACL Padres had off days.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 13-5 vs. Sugar Land) (61-49 on the season)
Pedro Avila: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K (67 strikes, 41 strikes)
Jose Azocar: (4-for-4), HR, 2 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R, BB
Brett Sullivan: (2-for-3), HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R
Matt Beaty: (1-for-3), HR, RBI, R, BB
The El Paso Chihuahuas offense exploded for 13 runs, on the back of Jose Azocar’s huge day. Azocar homered and doubled twice as part of a four hit game. He’s got an OPS of .960 since returning to El Paso after his demotion from the Padres back in July. Brett Sullivan added a home run as well, a three-run home run that scored the first three runs of the night. Matt Beaty also blasted a solo home run, as he attempts to earn his way back to Petco Park. Pedro Avila struck out five batters in four scoreless innings to start the game, exiting with a 7-0 lead. From there it was smooth sailing for El Paso, who cruised to their 61st win of the season.
San Antonio Missions (Won 7-5 vs. Frisco) (56-50 on the season)
Edwuin Bencomo: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (26 pitches, 18 strikes)
Connor Kaiser: (2-for-4), HR, 4 RBI, 2 R
Brandon Dixon: (2-for-3), HR, 2B, RBI, R, BB
Domingo Leyba: (2-for-3), 3B, RBI, R, BB
San Antonio scored rapidly early, before using a strong bullpen to ride their way to a win. Seven batters came to the plate in the second, four of which scored. Connor Kaiser drove in a pair on a ground ball single, before Domingo Leyba tripled home Kaiser. Missions’ starter Henry Henry gave up four runs in the third to tie the game, but it didn’t take long for the San Antonio bats to answer. Brandon Dixon and Connor Kaiser each homered in the fourth, putting three runs across the plate. The Missions’ bullpen worked 6.1 innings, allowing just three hits, and one run, helping San Antonio to the win.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 13-7 to Lake County) (44-64 on the season)
Alan Mundo: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K (18 pitches, 12 strikes)
Olivier Basabe: (3-for-4), 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 R, BB
Joshua Mears: (2-for-3), HR, RBI, 2 R, BB, K
Adam Kerner: (1-for-4), HR, 2 RBI, R
Fort Wayne’s starter Garett Hawkins struggled, allowing five runs in three innings to put the TinCaps behind the eight ball. Bodi Rascon allowed eight runs in 2.2 innings of work, which put the game out of reach. Olivier Basabe was the major bright note for the TinCaps, homering twice in the loss. Joshua Mears hit his 14th homer of the season as well, and Adam Kerner also blasted a home run in the game. The TinCaps had 11 hits, but they struggled for offense outside of the long ball, and they could not overcome their poor pitching.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 9-7 vs. Rancho Cucamonga) (63-45 on the season)
Jared Kollar: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K (32 pitches, 19 strikes)

Nerwilian Cedeno: (1-for-4), 2B, RBI, 2 R
The Storm had just five hits, but scored nine times in their victory over Rancho Cucamonga. Marcus Castanon blasted a two-run home run, while Wyatt Hoffman hit his first homer of the season. Jared Alvarez-Lopez drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double, which put Lake Elsinore ahead by three in the process. The Storm used five pitchers, who surrendered a combined 13 hits, but the bats came up with timely hits when the Storm needed it most. Lake Elsinore also showed strong discipline, walking eight times in the process, which set the table for their big hits.
