Minor League Baseball began its season at the Triple-A level on Tuesday.

The San Diego Padres are hoping for better results out of its affiliates this season, and that started off with a resounding victory from the El Paso Chihuahuas. 

 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 13-1) (1-0)

Eguy Rosario– 4-6, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Aderlin Rodriguez– 2-6, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 K

Webster Rivas– 4-5, 1 R, 3 RBI

Jesse Scholtens– 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K

The scoring started slowly in Round Rock between the Chihuahuas and the Express. Webster Rivas drove in Eguy Rosario in the first inning to get things going, and then Juan Fernandez drove in a second run in the fourth. Leading just 2-0 going into the fifth inning. El Paso put the game away with six runs, three of which came off the bat of an Aderlin Rodriguez 416-foot home run.

El Paso added five more runs later in the game to solidify the win. Jesse Scholtens got the opening day start and dominated Round Rock. He allowed just two hits and a walk-in five scoreless frames that included five strikeouts. Grant Gavin looked sharp as the first Chihuahuas reliever, striking out five batters in two innings of work, but did allow a solo home run in the sixth inning.

There is no scheduled starter for the Chihuahuas on Wednesday against Round Rock.

San Antonio Missions 

The San Antonio Missions open Friday against the Corpus Christi Hooks. Its roster is headlined by Esteury Ruiz, Tirso Ornelas, Jorge Oña, and Matt Waldron

Fort Wayne TinCaps 

The Fort Wayne TinCaps begin its season in Dayton against the Dragons on Friday. Robert Hassell III, Joshua Mears, Robert Gasser, and Brandon Valenzuela are the notable players in Fort Wayne. 

Lake Elsinore Storm

San Diego’s closest minor league affiliate, the Lake Elsinore Storm, also begin its season Friday. Infielder Max Ferguson is the only player on MLB Pipeline’s top-30 prospects for the Padres to be on the Storm.

Arizona League Padres

Arizona League schedules are yet to be announced. Jackson Merrill, James Wood, Victor Lizarraga, and Jagger Haynes headline its roster.

Dominican Summer League Padres

Dominican Summer League schedules are yet to be announced. Victor Acosta, Samuel Zavala, Brayan Medina, Jarlin Susana, Yendry Rojas, and Daniel Montesino are the top prospects rostered in the Dominican Republic. This is currently where the depth of the Padres’ farm system is.

  1. AJ has taken so much from our minor league teams. We need them to feed us reliable prospects each year on a consistent basis. I’m liking what we have there right now. I hope we’ll develop a few besides Gore and Campusano to help the club when called upon.
