The San Diego Padres’ affiliates went 2-1 on Tuesday. El Paso was rained out in Oklahoma.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (12-15 on the season)

Postponed (RAIN)

San Antonio Missions (Won 2-0 over Corpus Christi) (12-10 on the season)

Brandon Valenzuela– (1-for-4) HR, RBI, Run

Moises Gomez– (1-for-2)

Jose Geraldo– 1 IP, 1 H, 2 K

Henry Baez– 7 IP, 2 H, BB, 8 K (87 pitches- 55 strikes)

The Missions threw a three-hit shutout on Tuesday and won on a walk-off homer from Brandon Valenzuela in the 9th inning. The switch-hitting catcher is regarded as a plus defender with a developing bat. Valenzuela is 24 and starting to show some real promise with his swing. That is exciting for the Padres. Moises Gomez went 1-for-2 in the win, and the other hit on the night for the Missions was off the bat of Devin Ortiz, who went 1-for-4. The team did just enough with the bats to earn the win.

Jose Geraldo pitched a scoreless 8th inning and has yet to give up a run this season in 8.2 innings while striking out 13 batters in that time. Geraldo was initially signed in 2018 out of the Dominican Republic and is showing great promise as a reliever. Henry Baez was excellent on Tuesday, throwing seven shutout innings for the Missions. Beaz owns a 3.18 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP in 22.2 innings pitched this season. With a little more seasoning, Baez could make that jump to the major leagues later this season. The 22-year-old threw 126 innings last year and has shown the propensity to have a rubber arm.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 12-6 over Dayton) (11-11 on the season)

Leodalis DeVries- (3-for-3) HR, 2B, 3 Runs, 3 RBI, BB

Brendan Durfee- (4-for-4) 3 2B, 3 Runs, 2 RBI, BB

Brandon Butterworth– (2-for-4) 2 RBI, Run, BB

Tyler Morgan– Win- 3 IP, 5 K (40 pitches- 25 strikes)

The game between the TinCaps and the Dragons was back and forth at first, but Fort Wayne broke it open with a four-run 6th inning and a three-run 7th inning on their way to a 12-6 win. The TinCaps knocked out 13 hits and walked six times to create plenty of scoring opportunities. Leodalis DeVries continues to swing a hot bat as the 18-year-old went 3-for-3 with a homer and a double. The homer was registered at 108 mph off the bat. His swing is locked in from both sides of the plate right now. His stock continues to rise.

Catcher Brendan Durfee doubled three times and went 4-for-4 in the game. Dufree is an offensive catcher who owns a .767 OPS so far this year. The 2024, 14th-round pick out of UC Santa Barbara is a left-handed hitter who is showing a plus bat at the plate in his brief minor league career. If he can continue to improve with the glove, Durfee may be a useful player for the Padres. Brandon Butterworth recorded two hits in the win, as did Rosman Verdugo. The weather is heating up in the Midwest, and the TinCaps are starting to show a better offense.

Ian Koenig started the game on the mound, and he got shelled. The right-hander gave up four earned runs on six hits, and his ERA is 6.75 on the season. Tyler Morgan looked dominant out of the pen for the TinCaps as he went three shutout innings and struck out five of the nine batters he faced. Morgan continues to impress, showing a swing-and-miss change-up. He is a bulldog on the mound, unafraid to attack hitters with multiple changes. Eiker Huizi threw two scoreless innings out of the pen, and Xavier Ruiz got the last three out of the game. The TinCaps’ bullpen saved the day for the team, throwing six shutout innings to end the game, allowing only one hit.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 5-0 over Inland Empire) (7-15 on the season)

Lamar King Jr.- (2-for-4) 2B

Zach Evans– (2-for-3) BB

Ryan Wilson- (1-for-4)

Kash Mayfield-  5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K ( 78 pitches- 48 strikes)

Lake Elsinore sent the Padres’ 2024 No. 1 pick to the mound on Tuesday, and he wasn’t sharp. Mayfield issued two walks in the game and four hits in five innings of work. The lefty allowed three earned runs in that span and took the loss against the Angels’ affiliate. This was Mayfield’s longest outing in his pro career, but he is still looking for that win. In time, it will come. The 66ers played well in the game, and their staff threw a six-hit shutout in the 5-0 victory. The Storm is just not hitting consistently.

Lamar King Jr. earned two knocks in the game and is really impressing in the Cal League. It is a matter of time before he earns a promotion, but Durfee is playing well for the TinCaps. It is not a no-brainer promotion. The right-handed hitter does need to be challenged by pitchers who are more polished. Zach Evans continues to be very productive for the Lake Elsinore Storm. The infielder is hitting .341 on the season with an .871 OPS. Evans’ eighth multi-hit game was achieved on a swinging bunt to lead off the 9th.

Wednesday’s probable pitchers

El Paso- TBD

San Antonio- TBD

Fort Wayne- Clark Candiotti (0-1, 7.36 ERA)

Lake Elsinore- TBD
