The San Diego Padres traded four prospects to the Miami Marlins for Tanner Scott and Bryan Hoeing.

It is MLB trade season.

The San Diego Padres need pitching.

In the Padres’ latest move, the team acquired left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott and right-handed pitcher Bryan Hoeing from the Marlins.

Robby Snelling, Adam Mazur, Graham Pauley, and Jay Beshears were moved to Miami in the deal.

Scott gives the Padres one of the best left-handed set-up men/closers in the game. The southpaw is 30 years old and enjoying a productive season where he is 6-5 with a 1.18 ERA, a 1.007 WHIP, and 18 saves for the Marlins. He throws a power fastball and is considered one of the best in the league when the game is on the line.

Hoeing is 27 and pitching out of the bullpen presently for Miami. He has a 2.70 ERA and a 1.267 WHIP in 30 innings pitched.

The Padres traded prospects led by Robby Snelling, who is having a down year in Double-A. Pauley debuted this season with the Padres at the major league level, but the infielder did not have a spot moving forward. Bershears emerged this year, starting the season with the Lake Elsinore Storm. Mazur debuted with the Padres this season but struggled in eight games started for the Padres.

I'd like this amount to

A.J. Preller did well in strengthening the bullpen. Robert Suarez, Adrian Morejon, Jason Adam, Jeremiah Estrada, and now Tanner Scott give the Padres one of the best bullpens in baseball.

Will the Padres have enough of a prospect haul to acquire a starting pitcher in the next few hours?

Stay tuned to find out.

  1. Mr. Buy High, Sell Low, and Overpay strikes again!

3 of the top 5 prospects for 2 months of a reliever?!!? (the other reliever is, at best, to-be-determined, with an overall middling career).

Mr. BHSLOA cashes in all these chips, and for what? A transparent attempt to save his job.

Making this worse, at least at this point with another hour to go before the trade deadline, he has added ZERO starting pitching.
