Down on the Farm: May 16 (Patino Impresses in TinCaps Debut, Missions Lose 10-Inning Thriller)

El Paso was off on Wednesday and the teams that did play combined to go 1-3.

Here’s a look at Wednesday’s action down on the Padres’ farm:

San Antonio Missions (25-14) Lost 6-5 (10) 

The Missions lost their fourth straight to the Corpus Christi Hooks. The Hooks opened up to a four-run lead after four innings. Jerry Keel settled down for six innings of four-run ball with five strikeouts. The Missions got three back on Ty France’s seventh home run of the season, a three-run shot. San Antonio tied it up in the ninth inning when Forrestt Allday lined a grounder that scored a run. The Missions scored again in the tenth to take a brief lead before the Hooks scored two in the bottom half of the tenth to walk it off.

Lake Elsinore Storm (17-23) Lost 6-3

Ronald Bolanos pitched his best game yet for the Storm, allowing just one earned run through five innings. The Storm tied the game at one in the fifth inning with one of their four doubles on the night, this one by Edward Olivares. That set up an RBI double for Buddy Reed, his 13th two-bagger of the season, giving the Storm a 2-1 lead. The Inland Empire 66ers took the lead in the seventh and added onto in the eight to make it 5-2. The bullpen failed the Storm Wednesday night.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (16-22) Won 3-2

The story was 18-year-old Colombian Luis Patino making his first start above Rookie ball. He didn’t disappoint as he pitched five innings and allowed just one earned run and struck out four.  The TinCaps fell behind to the West Michigan Whitecaps in the first inning, but didn’t stay down for long. Gabriel Arias singled home the tying run in the second. The TinCaps took the lead in the third and didn’t look back after a Luis Almanzar RBI single. Arias doubled home another run to add on. Jared Carkuff shut the door in the ninth for his second save.
