Chargers News: Bolts Sign Zach Mettenberger
As soon as news broke a couple of days ago that the Tennessee Titans were releasing Zach Mettenberger, rumors swirled that the San Diego Chargers would be interested. Mettenberger was drafted in 2014 by the Titans and worked very closely with former Titans head coach and current Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.
Mettenberger and Whisenhunt had a connection and sure enough the Chargers used their second priority waiver claim to pluck the QB from the system. Really a no-brainer as the team lacked a young quarterback to groom for the future. Mettenberger is only 24 and will grow learning from an established QB like Philip Rivers.

The Chargers have been very successful this offseason filling their holes. A quality backup QB was needed and Metenberger appears to be the man to fill that role. He has experience starting in the league and that is a good thing. Although his time starting was limited, he does have 10 starts in the league in his two seasons. Expierence is vital if the Chargers plan to cultivate his abilities.
Tom Telesco was wise in selecting Whisenhunt as the offensive coordinator. He will implement a more balanced attack to the unit and give Rivers enough time to organize the team when they have the ball. Mettenberger in his limited time in the NFL has thrown for 2,347 yards and has 12 touchdowns to go with 14 interceptions. He probably will not get much playing time, but it is nice knowing he is available for the Bolts.
