Padres Down on the Farm: June 17 (Hassell homers for FW/Kyle Martin 2 HR, 6 RBI for EP/Ferguson 2 hits for LE)
San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-4 on Friday, including El Paso finishing a previously postponed game.
Here is a recap of the dayās events.
El Paso Chihuahuas (37-27), L vs. Las Vegas 13-4/W vs. Las Vegas 14-4
Game 1
El Paso finished Thursday’s game that was suspended due to lightning. Las Vegas sealed the victory with a five-run sixth inning, getting to starter Aaron Leasher for five earned runs. Eguy Rosario was the main source of offense for El Paso, with a homer and a double. Las Vegas won 13-4.
Game 2

Brett Sullivan: (5-for-5), 2 2B, RBI, 3 R
Jesse Scholtens: 3 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
El Paso sought revenge for the blowout loss to finish the day’s previous game. They got it. First, the Aviators took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth. El Paso responded with a run in the bottom half thanks to a Taylor Kohlwey single. The Chihuahuas exploded with back-to-back five-run innings in the sixth and seventh to ice the game. Sullivan collected five hits, and Martin hit two homers, driving in six.
San Antonio Missions (29-32), L vs. Amarillo 5-3
Jorge Ona: (1-for-4), HR, RBI
Tirso Ornelas: (2-for-3), BB, SB
Nolan Watson: 4 IP, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Both starters tossed scoreless frames until the bottom of the fourth when Yorman Rodriguez drove in the first run for San Antonio. Both teams traded runs in the fifth before Amarillo erupted for four runs in the top of the seventh. Brandon Komar surrendered five runs, and the Sod Poodles surged late for the win.
Lake Elsinore Storm (36-25), L vs. Modesto 9-5
Marcos Castanon: (1-for-4), HR, RBI
Max Ferguson: (2-for-5), 3B, 3 RBI
Garrett Hawkins: 5 IP, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Modesto jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning. The Storm responded one in the third and Max Ferguson’s bases-clearing triple in the fourth. They took a 5-2 lead to the bottom of the fifth when the Nuts came back with three runs of their own to tie it. Modesto scored four more times late to earn the victory.
Fort Wayne (25-36), W vs. Lansing 7-2
Robert Hassell III: (2-for-5), HR, 2B, 2 RBI
Olivier Basabe: (2-for-4), 2 RBI
Brandon Valenzuela: (1-for-4), 3B, R
Noel Vela: 6 IP, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
Hassell got the scoring started in the first with a two-run homer, his eighth of the season. He is currently hitting .314 with an .886 OPS. The TinCaps built a 3-1 lead, which remained the score until the sixth. Matthew Acosta singled home a run to add to Fort Wayne’s lead. They scored three in the eighth to put it away.
ACL Padres (3-6), L vs. ACL Rangers 20-1
Rosman Verdugo: (2-for-4), RBI
Miguel Rondon: 2/3 IP, 6 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
It certainly was not the ACL Padres’ night. The ACL Rangers poured it on early and often, scoring six in the first and nine in the third, leading 17-0 after just three innings.
DSL Padres (8-3) W vs. DSL Orioles, 7-2
Yendry Rojas: (1-for-3), 3B, BB, R
Adrian Perez: (1-for-2), 2B, 2 RBI, BB
Oswaldo Linares: (1-for-3), RBI, R
Aldo Leija: 4 IP, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
It was a pitcher’s duel early, with both teams tossing two scoreless innings to start the game. Then the DSL Padres went on a run, scoring in each of their final four turns at bat. They scored two runs in each of their final three innings, building a large lead late. They were aided by two wild pitches by the DSL Orioles that scored two runs. Aldo Leija started the game for the DSL Padres, and Luis Gutierrez finished with three strong innings to earn the win.
