Padres minor league affiliates went 1-3 on Saturday.
Here is our daily recap of games played.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 5-4 in 11 innings vs Sacramento) (68-56 on the season)
Tirso Ornelas – 1-for-4, Home Run
Luis Campusano – 1-for-5, Home Run

Randy Vasquez – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K (71 pitches – 40 strikes)
El Paso got five quality innings from Randy Vasquez, as the right-hander returned to the rotation for the Chihuahuas. Vasquez struck out two and walked two, but allowed only two hits and no runs. Vasquez also got eight of 15 outs through the ground ball, which has been key to his success this season. Omar Cruz pitched two innings in relief, striking out three batters but allowing one run. Cruz has been effective as a multi-inning left-handed reliever in El Paso, as he has held opposing batters to a .218 batting average in relief this season. Kyle Hart tossed a scoreless inning, and Ron Marinaccio entered in the ninth. Marinaccio was unable to record the save, as the River Cats tied the game at three. After a scoreless tenth from Manuel Castro, the Chihuahuas took a lead in the eleventh.
Luis Campusano broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning with a solo home run, his 23rd of the season. Tirso Ornelas went deep two batters later to give El Paso a 2-1 lead after seven. Yonathan Perlaza hit his 40th double of the season in the ninth, scoring on a wild pitch from Keaton Winn. Perlaza would give the Chihuahuas an eleventh-inning lead with an RBI single to score Tyler Wade.
Manuel Castro was back for the eleventh, but allowed the tying run to score on a sac fly. With two outs and two on, Oslevis Basabe singled on a liner to right, scoring Brett Wisely for the walk-off win.
San Antonio Missions (Lost 2-0 vs Amarillo) (58-61 on the season)
Damon Dues – 1-for-3, Double
Oswaldo Linares – 1-for-4, Single
Victor Lizarraga – 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K (83 pitches – 61 strikes)
Victor Lizarraga threw yet another strong start, pitching seven shutout innings. The right-hander struck out a season-high nine batters, and did not walk a batter. In his last two starts combined, Lizarraga has thrown 13.2 innings of three-hit baseball, not allowing a run. Ryan Och pitched a scoreless eighth before walking the leadoff man in the ninth. Garrett Hawkins entered in relief, but loaded the bases before Gavin Conticello lined a two-run double to center field to give the visiting Sod Poodles a 2-0 lead. At the plate, San Antonio recorded only two hits all game, with Damon Dues’ second-inning double accounting for their lone extra base hit. The Missions rallied in the sixth on a single and fielding error, and after a wild pitch, the team had runners at second and third with no outs. The Missions were unable to capitalize and break through, going down 1-2-3 afterwards.

Kasen Wells – 2-for-5, Go-Ahead RBI Double
Luis Gutierrez – 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 1 K (83 pitches – 51 strikes)
Fort Wayne pulled off a comeback in the ninth inning to win 5-4 over Lake County. Luis Gutierrez started for the TinCaps, allowing four runs (two earned) in his five innings of work. Gutierrez walked one and struck out one, getting eight of 15 outs via the groundout. Cole Paplham made his first outing since coming off the IL, pitching a scoreless inning. An eighth inning homer by Brendan Durfee made it a 4-3 game after eight, but the real magic came in the ninth inning. Jonathan Vastine singled to lead off the ninth, and Sean Barnett drew a walk. Zach Evans and Chase Valentine hit into forceouts to put runners on first and third. Lamar King Jr then singled to tie the game. Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 7-5 vs Stockton) (52-67 on the season)
Ryan Wideman – 1-for-4, Two-Run Triple
Justin DeCriscio – 2-for-2, Home Run
Bryan Balzer – 4 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K (64 pitches – 36 strikes)
Right-hander Bryan Balzer pitched four innings of four-run baseball, striking out three batters. The right-hander has pitched deeper into games as of late, but the results have not yet materialized. The stuff is there for the young right-hander, and his performances down the stretch. Jordan Valenzuela walked three in 0.1 innings, with all three coming in to score on a hit and batted ball out against Clay Edmondson. Edmondson recorded five outs, three via the strikeout. Braian Salazar and Adam Conrad each threw a scoreless inning in the loss.
Justin DeCriscio made his presence known in his second career game. The former NC State shortstop hit his first career homer, driving in two runs. Ryan Wideman had a two-run triple in the fifth inning, scoring Dylan Grego and DeCriscio. Grego also scored on DeCriscio’s homer. Carlos Rodriguez hit his third homer of the season as well, bringing the game to within two. Kavares Tears finished 1-for-3 with a single and walk in the loss.
