Padres minor league affiliates went 0-1 on Sunday, which saw the final official game of Padres minor league baseball for 2026.

Let’s go right into the day’s events, one last time. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 2-1 vs Oklahoma City) (60-90 on the season)

Anthony Vilar – 1-for-2, RBI Single

Marcos Castanon – 1-for-4, Single, Run Scored

Ian Koenig – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K (65 pitches – 39 strikes)

Right-hander Ian Koenig finished off his regular season on a roll, allowing one run in five innings against Oklahoma City. The right-hander struck out just two batters, but recorded nine of 15 outs via groundout. This included a third-inning double-play ball, by the way. The right-hander from San Jose, California, pitched to a 2.33 ERA in five starts at the Triple-A level to end his season, striking out 22 batters while walking five. Sean Boyle threw the final four innings for El Paso, allowing one run on four hits. The 29-year old struck out five batters in his relief outing, bookending his season with long relief outings; Boyle pitched three innings of one-run baseball on Opening Day. 

At the dish, the El Paso offense was held to one run on four hits by the Comets’ pitching staff. Marcos Castanon opened the second inning with a single and was moved to second base on a groundout by Braedon Karpathios. Anthony Vilar lined a low changeup to center field at 97.1 mph, scoring Castanon from second base. El Paso’s rally was stymied just five pitches later, as Rosman Verdugo barreled a fly ball that was ultimately caught by left field Chris Newell. Newell threw back to the infield, where shortstop Noah Miller’s throw reached first before a sliding Vilar. Carlos Rodriguez walked to open the fourth, but was caught stealing second base. The Chihuahuas drew two walks in the eighth inning with two outs, but Oswaldo Linares chopped a grounder to third base for an inning-ending forceout. El Paso’s final six batters were set down in order, and with that, the 2026 Chihuahuas season came to an end.
