The Padres looked to extend their win streak to nine games on Tuesday at Coors Field against the 55-95 Colorado Rockies.

San Diego took Monday night’s game by a score of 8-7 thanks to three-hit games from Ty France in his first game back from the paternity list and NL Player of the Week Jackson Merrill.

San Diego’s starting pitcher, Walker Buehler, owns a 4.61 ERA through 29 starts in 2026.

Veteran left-hander Kyle Freeland took the mound for the Rockies. Freeland has an undesirable 6.37 ERA coming into Tuesday.

Buehler can’t get through five

Walker Buehler’s day ends at 4 2/3 innings after allowing a two-out double to Carrigg in the fifth. Buehler tossed 92 pitches, with 56 of them coming for strikes. The right-hander allowed two earned runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out one. Buehler was able to get six swing and misses throughout his outing.

Rockies go ahead

Three consecutive Colorado hits gave the Rockies a pair of runs and the lead. The triple by Mickey Moniak, double by Troy Johnston, and single by Brett Sullivan gave Wandy Peralta a pair of earned runs to his name. Zac Veen would strikeout and Jake McCarthy singled, where that ended Peralta’s night. Peralta exited the game with the Rockies on top 4-3.

Randy Vásquez entered the game where he’d get the first batter that he’d face, Adael Amador, to fly out. Cole Carrigg won a 13-pitch at bat against Vásquez, launching a ball into the bullpens in right-center field. Carrigg’s fourth hit of the night, as well as his second homer of the night, gave the Rockies a 7-3 lead.

Rockies add a pair

In the bottom of the seventh, Troy Johnston knocked in Kyle Karros with his second double of the night. Johnston would get pinch-run for with Ezequiel Tovar and would later score on a two-out single by Zac Veen. This widened the score to 9-3, Rockies.

Colorado improves their record to 56-95.

The Padres remain in the third wild card spot, just 1.5 games back of the Cubs and 1.0 game behind the Phillies. Following the loss, San Diego stands 2.0 games ahead of the Diamondbacks, whose game has not concluded yet at the time the Padres’ game end. At the end of Tuesday night, the Padres will either be 1.5 or 2.5 games ahead of Arizona, depending of the result of their game.

Wednesday night in Denver

The Padres and Rockies will play game three of this four-game set on Wednesday night.

Robbie Ray will start for San Diego and look to rebound after allowing five earned runs in his previous outing in San Francisco. The Rockies will send rookie Mason Adams to the mound. First pitch at Coors Field is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. PDT/6:40 p.m. MDT.
