This Tuesday, January 28, the Tijuana Xolos visited Tigres for a match in the Liga MX 2025 Clausura season.

Club Tijuana played this past Friday and will play again next Friday, January 31, during what has been a busy week for the Aztec Canines.

The Xoloitzcuintles were the heavy underdogs heading into this matchup and ended up suffering a significant loss. The Border City Dogs were coming off a 2-1 victory against Queretaro at home but fell 4-0 to Tigres UANL in this tough game.

The big change that manager Juan Carlos Osorio made was sitting out Antonio Rodriguez and starting Jesus Corona in net.

The match started in the worst possible way for Xolos, conceding less than a minute into the encounter. Juan Brunetta scored with a shot from outside the penalty area just 23 seconds in, which set a tone for the game.

Club Tijuana was able to muster a decent effort in the opening 45 minutes, but the second half failed to remain competitive. In the 60th minute, Brunetta scored his second goal of the game from a potent strike inside of the penalty area off an assist by Diego Lainez. Club Tijuana was caught out of position in that second goal after losing possession and a quick transition by the opposition.

The Border City team really fell apart after that second goal and failed to generate much offense going forward. In the 76th minute, Tigres had a goal by Juan Pablo Vigon disallowed, but Vigon was able to come back with a goal from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute.

Tigres’ final goal of the game came in the 87th minute when defender Joaquim scored off a corner kick. Juan Pablo Vigon initially headed the ball towards net, but Jesus Corona stopped the effort, however Joaquim was able to tap the sphere in on the rebound.

Tigres came away with the massive 4-0 win at home in a game expected to be in their favor from the first whistle. Club Tijuana now only has one win from four games played this season and has a very tough game against Cruz Azul this Friday, January 31.

The Xoloiztcuintles are coming off a home win and will try to make the Estadio Caliente a fortress as it was in the 2024 Apertura season.
