Xolos Femenil Look For First Win Of Clausura 2018 Against Struggling Cruz Azul Team
Game: Cruz Azul Femenil vs Xolos Femenil
When: Friday, Feb. 9, 2018
Where: Instalaciones La Noria, Mexico City
Time: 2:00 P.M. PST
Xolos Femenil still has yet to win a game this season heading into Week 6 of the Liga MX Clausura 2018.
The border city team has lost four straight games and will now look to turn things around facing a struggling Cruz Azul team. Xolos’ manager Andrea Rodebaugh has made it clear that the team is building towards the future and immediate success is not a priority.
Rodebaugh’s main goal this season seems to be giving minutes to some of the younger players on the squad. Two of the players that have been starting recently are Valentina Oviedo and Layzha Garcia, who are both just 15 years old. Both started in Tijuana’s last two games against Club America and Pachuca, and have been looking solid.
Goalkeeper Itzel Gonzalez is also coming off a great game versus Club America as she stopped a penalty and made some important saves.
The defense also looked solid in that game against Las Aguilas, with captain Ana Lara and Stephanie Rodriguez being the standouts. The offense needs to get going for Andrea Rodebaugh as Xolos only has one goal in their last four games. This game in Mexico City could be a great opportunity for Club Tijuana to get a win and start scoring some goals.
Cruz Azul has also not won in their last four games and is looking like one of the weaker teams in this Liga MX Femenil.
La Maquina is coming off a 1-0 loss versus Veracruz, and had a terrible 7-1 loss to Club America before that. Las Cementeras’ only win this season was a 1-0 win against Pumas UNAM in Week 1 of the Liga MX Femenil. Since then, the team from Mexico City has struggled and hasn’t really counted with a standout player. The team is young and is led by former Liga MX goalkeeper Alberto Aguilar, who played in Mexico from 1979-1995.
Cruz Azul is on four points to start off this Liga MX Femenil season, while Xolos are just on one. Both teams will look to get the win, but the Xoloitzcuintles should have a pretty good chance at picking up the three points. My prediction for the match is a 2-1 win for Xolos Femenil away from home at Instalaciones La Noria for their first win this season.
