Padres minor league affiliates went 1-3 on Sunday.

Let’s jump right into the daily report.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 11-2 vs Sacramento) (40-47 on the season)

Marcos Castanon – 3-for-5, Home Run, Three RBI

Nick Schnell – 2-for-3, Home Run, Two RBI

Sean Boyle – 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 K (84 pitches – 55 strikes)

El Paso scored nine times in the middle innings and did not look back as they defeated the River Cats by an 11-2 final. Marcos Castanon erased a 1-0 deficit with a three-run home run to right center field, his 13th of the season. Nick Solak added on a run with an RBI single in the fifth before El Paso burst through with five in the sixth. Romeo Sanabria lined a two-run double to right-center field, his first extra-base hit with the Chihuahuas, extending the lead to 6-2. Blake Hunt scored from third base on a wild pitch from new pitcher Carson Seymour, and Nick Schnell launched a two-run homer to cap off the five-run frame. A wild pitch in the seventh scored Marcos Castanon, and Bryce Johnson drew a bases-loaded walk to score the 11th and final run.

Sean Boyle rebounded from a rough start with five innings of two-run baseball. The right-hander matched a season-high with seven strikeouts in his start, picking up nine swings and misses for a 22% whiff rate. The soft-tossing right-hander used a nearly flat release point to sequence his stuff for weak contact. Daison Acosta made his first appearance with the Chihuahuas, pitching two scoreless innings. Acosta failed to record a strikeout, walking two and picking up five outs on the ground. Andrew Moore struck out two batters in two scoreless innings. Despite an in-zone rate of just 30%, Moore saw batters chase and whiff against him on 38% of swings.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 1-0 vs Amarillo) (37-44 on the season)

Albert Fabian – 1-for-3, Double

Ethan Salas – 1-for-4, Single

Jagger Haynes – 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K (79 pitches – 53 strikes)

San Antonio ended the week with a shutout loss, as Jagger Haynes and the Missions were outdueled by the Sod Poodles bullpen. Haynes pitched five innings of one-run baseball, striking out four batters. The left-hander picked up 14 swings and misses on 53 strikes, and seven of his outs came via the ground ball. Haynes has now pitched five or more innings in his last six starts and is now 25 innings away from a new career-high mark in innings. Johan Moreno pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two batters. Josh Mallitz struck out three batters in two scoreless innings as well, keeping the Missions in the game. The Missions offense picked up eight hits in the game, but went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position in the loss. Albert Fabian had their only extra-base hit with a double. Carson Tucker had one of seven Missions singles, but was also responsible for one of three failed stolen base attempts. Jake Cunningham hit a single but was also caught stealing. Tirso Ornelas had two singles in the loss, and Ethan Salas went 1-for-4 with a single as the Missions’ DH.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 5-0 vs Great Lakes) (34-47 on the season)

Ryan Wideman – 1-for-4, Single, Stolen Base

Justin DeCriscio – 1-for-3, Single, Two Stolen Bases

Jamie Hitt – 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K (85 pitches – 55 strikes)

Left-hander Jamie Hitt pitched a quality start, but the TinCaps’ offense was silenced en route to a shutout loss. Starting with the TinCaps’ starter, Hitt threw six innings, allowing two runs on six hits. The left-hander struck out six batters, generating 12 whiffs along the way. Hitt kept the game scoreless until the sixth inning, when Logan Wagner took a Hitt changeup deep to center field, clearing the wall by about six feet to give the Loons a 2-0 lead. Sunday’s performance was Hitt’s second quality start in his last three starts. Maikel Miralles entered in relief, but did not have his sharpest command; the right-hander issued four walks in 1.1 innings. Miralles was charged with three earned runs, with one of the three inherited runners scoring against Braian Salazar. Salazar allowed no runs of his own in 1.2 innings. Ryan Wideman had one of four TinCaps hits, swiping his seventh base with Fort Wayne. Justin DeCriscio singled and walked in four plate appearances, stealing two bases in the loss. Carlos E. Rodriguez and Kavares Tears also picked up base hits in the loss, while both Rosman Verdugo and Luke Cantwell drew walks.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 10-8 vs Stockton) (43-38 on the season)

Jorge Quintana – 2-for-4, Home Run, Two RBI

Dawson Willis – 2-for-5, Triple, Double, Two RBI

Luis Maracara – 3 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 2 BB, 3 K (55 pitches – 35 strikes)

Right-hander Luis Maracara made his first Single-A start, allowing seven runs in three-plus innings. Maracara fanned three batters against two walks, but labored through a four-run first inning. A second-inning home run and a fourth-inning two-run single scored three more against the Storm’s starter. Despite this, the right-hander threw 63.6% of his pitches for strikes. Jordan Valenzuela threw a scoreless fourth inning, and Daichi Moriki threw the fifth inning, allowing two runs. Rordy Mejia threw two scoreless innings, striking out four batters. Yoesmerli Beltre allowed one run in the eighth, and Sean Barnett struck out one in a scoreless ninth.

Dawson Willis and Jorge Quintana led the offense, as Quintana went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run. Willis had two extra-base hits, finishing with a triple and a double with two RBI. Alcides Hernandez hit a pinch-hit RBI single, later driving in another run with a sacrifice fly. Dylan Grego launched his second home run of the season for the Storm in the eighth, a solo blast. Conner Westenburg went 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, and scored a run when Qrey Lott reached base on an error. Lott had two hits, including a double, and scored three runs.
